Abstract

Ganoderma sp. is a fungal pathogen that causes basal stem rot in oil palm, leading to production losses of up to 80%. One potential method to inhibit fungal growth is the use of plant-based fungicides derived from bintaro fruit (Cerbera manghas L.) extract. This study aims to determine the effective concentration of C. manghas fruit extract for controlling Ganoderma sp., the causal agent of basal stem rot disease in oil palm, under in vitro conditions. The extract was tested at concentrations of 0%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% using a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The extract was prepared using distilled water (simple extraction) and incorporated into PDA medium. Observed parameters included fungal colony area, mycelial dry weight, and mycelial fresh weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results indicated that C. manghas fruit extract inhibited the growth of Ganoderma sp. The 6% extract concentration exhibited the highest inhibitory effect, reducing colony area by 15.49%, dry weight by 31.30%, and fresh weight by 30.77%.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a common chronic health problem among the elderly and its prevalence increases with advancing age. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as structured physical activity in the form of hypertension exercise, are recommended to support blood pressure control and improve overall well-being in older adults. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of hypertension exercise on blood pressure among elderly individuals and to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of the intervention. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group design was conducted involving 60 elderly participants diagnosed with hypertension. Participants were divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group participated in a structured hypertension exercise program for eight weeks, while the control group received no intervention. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention period. Data were analyzed using comparative statistical tests to assess changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group compared to the control group. In addition, participants in the intervention group reported improvements in mental well-being. Social support and personal motivation were identified as important factors contributing to the effectiveness of the hypertension exercise program. Conclusion: Hypertension exercise is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing blood pressure and improving quality of life among the elderly. Integrating structured exercise programs with adequate social support and medical supervision may enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of hypertension management in older adults.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse PT. Shoes Bata Tbkl's Return On Assets (ROA) from 2014 to 2023 and find out how the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) affected it. The firm is having issues, as shown by the fact that its financial position is going through oscillations and a decrease in total assets and net profit. This is the backdrop to the study. This study makes use of quantitative methods of an associative kind. Secondary data is sourced from the company's yearly financial reports and is analysed using tools such as t-test, correlation coefficient, determination coefficient, and basic linear regression analysis. According to the study findings, Return on Assets (ROA) is significantly and negatively affected by the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), with a regression coefficient of -0.123 and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). With a coefficient of determination of 0.535, we may deduce that ROA accounts for 53.5% of the variation in DER and that other, exogenous variables account for the remaining 46.5%. The bottom line is that ROA often falls when DER rises for a given organisation. This demonstrates how the inability to fully use assets to generate profits is a direct result of the company's heavy reliance on debt.

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis remains one of the leading infectious diseases contributing to the global health burden. Behavioral factors such as smoking habits and inadequate knowledge about the disease may increase individual susceptibility to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Understanding the relationship between knowledge level and smoking behavior with pulmonary tuberculosis incidence is important to strengthen behavior-based prevention strategies in tuberculosis control. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge level and smoking habit behavior with the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 32 pulmonary tuberculosis patients selected using an accidental sampling technique. The independent variables were knowledge level and smoking habit behavior, while the dependent variable was pulmonary tuberculosis incidence. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and checklists developed by the researchers. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test with SPSS software at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The results showed that among 32 respondents, 43.8% were diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. Most respondents had poor knowledge levels (59.4%) and unfavorable smoking behaviors (59.4%). Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between knowledge level and pulmonary tuberculosis incidence (p = 0.020). Smoking habit behavior also demonstrated a significant association with pulmonary tuberculosis incidence (p = 0.020). Conclusion: Knowledge level and smoking habit behavior are significantly associated with pulmonary tuberculosis incidence. Strengthening community knowledge and implementing smoking cessation interventions are important components in pulmonary tuberculosis prevention and control programs.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the influence of the social and family environments on early childhood learning motivation in Gunung Mas Regency. It seeks to determine how these external factors, both individually and jointly, contribute to fostering children's enthusiasm, persistence, and positive attitudes toward learning during early education. Methodology: A quantitative research design employing a survey method was used. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires distributed to 52 respondents, comprising parents and teachers at TK Pembina Manuhing Raya in Gunung Mas Regency. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 to examine the partial and simultaneous effects of the social environment (X₁) and the family environment (X₂) on learning motivation (Y). Main Findings: The findings revealed that both the social environment (t = 3.911; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) and the family environment (t = 9.361; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) have a significant, positive effect on early childhood learning motivation. Simultaneously, the two variables accounted for 50% of the variation in learning motivation (R² = 0.500), indicating that children’s motivation is substantially shaped by social and familial support. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides empirical evidence on the combined influence of family and social environments in shaping early childhood learning motivation within the cultural context of Central Kalimantan. It extends existing studies by quantifying the contributions of both environments and highlighting their complementary roles in early educational development.
