Abstract

Students frequently encounter difficulties comprehending and applying the least common multiple (LCM) concepts due to traditional teaching methods lacking engagement and failing to incorporate relevant real-life contexts. Through the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education approach, students are expected to be able to solve the problems given related to the Least Common Multiple (LCM) topic and understand it more deeply. This research is design research with a validation study type that includes three main stages: preparing for the experiment, designing an experiment, and retrospective analysis. A literature review and needs analysis were conducted in the preparation stages to identify problems in learning this LCM topic. The design experiment stage involved using activity sheets, which were implemented into teaching and integrated the LCM concept utilizing the context of a calendar. This stage involved data collection through observation, questionnaire, documentation, and field notes. Retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the learning design and make revisions based on the evaluation result and feedback from students, teachers, peers, and lecturers. The result showed that using the context of the activity calendar in learning for LCM topics can enhance students’ understanding of the material and make the learning process more contextual and interesting.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse students' mathematical representation understanding on matrix material through the integration of real context-based technology. The problem raised in this research is the low ability of students in connecting matrix concepts with real-life situations. To answer these problems, this research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects involved 29 grade XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Sekayu, who were grouped into seven groups. The sampling technique was purposive, while data were collected through tests and questionnaires. The data were analysed descriptively to identify students' mathematical representation patterns, including pictorial, symbolic and verbal representations. The results showed that the integration of Google Maps in matrix learning strengthened students' conceptual understanding through real spatial visualisation. This approach significantly improves students' ability to represent mathematical concepts, as well as encourages motivation, engagement and collaboration during the learning process. In addition, the findings underline the relevance of the real context-based approach in Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI), which makes learning more applicable and meaningful. The conclusion of this study is that the integration of Google Maps has a positive influence on students' mathematical representation skills, especially on matrix material. For future research, it is recommended to explore the application of similar technology in other mathematics materials and analyse its effect on students' problem solving.   Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman representasi matematis siswa pada materi matriks melalui integrasi teknologi berbasis konteks nyata. Abstract

The System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV) is one of the essential topics in mathematics that often presents challenges for students to understand. Interventions in the learning process can be made by designing a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI), integrating local context to enhance student understanding. This study aims to describe the design of an HLT for the SLETV topic using the context of Jakabaring tourism in Palembang, which is relevant to students' daily lives. The method used is design research, consisting of three stages: preliminary design, design experiment (pilot experiment and teaching experiment), and retrospective analysis. The subjects of this study are 30 eighth-grade students from SMPN 9 Palembang. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The HLT was compared with the Local Instructional Theory (LIT) that emerged during the learning process. The study results show that using the Jakabaring tourism context can facilitate students in understanding the SLETV concepts, formulating mathematical models from contextual problems, and solving these problems systematically while also introducing the relevance of SLETV to real-life situations.
