Abstract

Research Aims: This study aims to map the scientific development and analyze the economic impact of halal tourism in Indonesia by conducting a systematic review and bibliometric analysis of scholarly publications from 2019 to 2025. Design/methodology/approach: This research employs a quantitative bibliometric approach integrated with a systematic literature review (SLR). Data were sourced from the Scopus database using the keywords “halal tourism” AND “economic impact”. A total of 26 relevant documents were analyzed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny to explore publication trends, keyword co-occurrence, author collaboration, citation influence, and thematic clustering. Research Findings: The findings reveal that “halal tourism” is a central theme in the literature, frequently associated with keywords such as “Indonesia,” “sustainability,” and “economic development.” The annual publication growth rate reached 38.31%, with research activity dominated by Indonesian scholars. Two primary thematic clusters were identified: one focused on destination experiences and the other on adaptive capacity and policy analysis. However, empirical investigations into the economic impact of halal tourism remain limited and are often overshadowed by normative or ethical discussions. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study contributes to the academic literature by offering a comprehensive map of research patterns in halal tourism, particularly its economic dimensions. It is one of the first bibliometric studies to focus exclusively on Indonesia, highlighting the intellectual structure, gaps, and opportunities within the field. The results provide valuable insights for future researchers, policymakers, and tourism stakeholders seeking to advance halal tourism as part of Indonesia’s sustainable development agenda.

Abstract

Tinjauan literatur sistematis ini meneliti faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi minat wisatawan untuk berkunjung ulang ke suatu destinasi. Studi ini mengidentifikasi determinan utama seperti loyalitas pelanggan, kepuasan, makanan tradisional, keaslian yang dirasakan, dan pengalaman layanan. Dampak inovasi teknologi modern seperti augmented reality (AR) dan virtual reality (VR) serta pengaruh pandemi COVID-19 juga dibahas. Kontribusi penting datang dari para peneliti seperti Heesup Han, Jong-Hyeong Kim, Bee-Lia Chua, dan lainnya. Temuan ini memberikan pemahaman komprehensif tentang variabel yang membentuk niat kunjungan ulang wisatawan dan menawarkan wawasan bagi pengelola destinasi untuk meningkatkan strategi mereka.

Abstract

The study aimed to examine the influence of English communication skills on career readiness among hospitality management students, as well as the moderating role of Project-Based Learning (PJBL) in this relationship. The population in this study consisted of higher education students at Universitas Negeri Padang. Data collected from 108 valid respondents were analyzed using statistical tests, including correlation and moderation regression analysis. The findings revealed that English communication skills positively and significantly influence career readiness among hospitality management students. Furthermore, the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PJBL) was found to have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between English communication skill and career readiness. However, the interaction effect was negative, indicating that a higher level of Project-Based Learning (PJBL) implementation slightly weakens the direct influence of English communication skills on students’ career readiness. These findings provide several important theoretical and practical implications for enhancing students’ career readiness in higher education, emphasizing the integration of communicative competence and experiential learning through Project-Based Learning (PJBL).

Abstract

The hospitality industry faces persistent challenges in talent retention, particularly among new graduates. This study investigates how the nature of work and internship satisfaction jointly influence future career intentions among hotel management students in Indonesia. Using a quantitative, causal-comparative design, data were collected from 115 students at Universitas Negeri Padang who had completed internships in the hotel sector. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to test a mediation model. Results indicate that (1) the nature of work positively affects career intentions (β = 0.531, p < 0.001); (2) internship satisfaction also has a significant positive effect (β = 0.571, p < 0.001); and (3) internship satisfaction fully mediates the relationship between work nature and career choice (indirect effect = 0.094, p = 0.080). Contrary to expectations, the nature of work did not significantly predict internship satisfaction (p = 0.080), suggesting that students’ career decisions are shaped more by their overall satisfaction with the internship experience than by specific job characteristics. These findings underscore the strategic importance of designing meaningful, supportive internship programs to cultivate long-term industry commitment.

Abstract

Abstrak Sumber daya manusia memiliki peranan penting dalam industri perhotelan karena kualitas pelayanan sangat bergantung pada kinerja dan kepuasan kerja karyawan. Kepuasan kerja menjadi faktor penting yang memengaruhi produktivitas, motivasi, dan kualitas pelayanan karyawan. Salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi kepuasan kerja adalah beban kerja. Beban kerja yang berlebihan dan tidak sesuai dengan kemampuan fisik maupun mental karyawan dapat menimbulkan kelelahan, stres, dan menurunkan tingkat kepuasan kerja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh beban kerja terhadap kepuasan kerja karyawan di Hotel Four Points by Sheraton Batam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode asosiatif kausal. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh karyawan Hotel Four Points by Sheraton Batam dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 38 responden menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan Partial Least Square–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beban kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kepuasan kerja karyawan dengan nilai koefisien jalur sebesar 0,518 dan nilai p-value sebesar 0,018. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan beban kerja yang baik dapat meningkatkan kepuasan kerja karyawan. Kata kunci: Beban Kerja, Kepuasan Kerja Karyawan, PLS-SEM Abstract Human resources play a crucial role in the hospitality industry, where service quality largely depends on employee performance and satisfaction. Job satisfaction is an essential factor influencing employee productivity, motivation, and service quality. One of the key factors affecting job satisfaction is workload. Excessive workload that exceeds employees’ physical and mental capacities may lead to fatigue, stress, and decreased job satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the effect of workload on employee job satisfaction at Four Points by Sheraton Batam. This research employed a quantitative approach using a causal associative method. The population consisted of all employees of Four Points by Sheraton Batam, with a total sample of 38 respondents using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Square–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that workload has a positive and significant effect on employee job satisfaction, with a path coefficient value of 0.518 and a p-value of 0.018. These findings suggest that well-managed and balanced workloads can enhance employee job satisfaction. Therefore, hotel management should pay close attention to workload management to improve employee well-being and organizational performance. Abstract

General Background: Cultural heritage tourism plays a vital role in supporting local economies and preserving identity, particularly in historically rich areas like Indonesia. Specific Background: The Siak Palace in Riau Province, as a living heritage site from the Malay Kingdom, holds strong potential as a cultural destination but faces challenges in optimizing visitor satisfaction. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not simultaneously analyzed the influence of the 4A components (Attraction, Accessibility, Amenities, Ancillary Services) on visitor satisfaction at Malay heritage destinations. Aims: This study investigates the effect of the 4A destination components on tourist satisfaction at the Siak Palace using a quantitative approach. Results: Based on responses from 400 visitors and SmartPLS 4.0 analysis, amenities and ancillary services significantly influenced satisfaction (p < 0.001), while attractions had a smaller positive effect (p = 0.035), and accessibility showed no significant impact (p = 0.408). Novelty: The study applies a robust sample size and advanced SEM-PLS analysis to a culturally specific heritage site, offering empirical insight into underexplored tourism dynamics. Implications: The findings highlight the need to improve facilities and complementary services over transport infrastructure to enhance tourist experiences and sustain heritage-based tourism in Siak.Highlight : This study shows that amenity and ancillary services have the strongest influence on tourist satisfaction at Siak Palace. Accessibility is not significant to satisfaction, indicating that the role of public transportation is not optimal in supporting visits. This study uses a quantitative approach based on SEM-PLS with a large sample (400 respondents), providing strong empirical validity. Abstract

Although leadership in the hospitality industry has received considerable scholarly attention, studies specifically examining its effect on room attendant performance remain limited. This study aims to analyze the influence of leadership on the performance of room attendants at Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design was employed, involving 83 respondents selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, Spearman correlation, and simple linear regression with SPSS. The findings indicate that both leadership and room attendant performance were categorized as very good. The analysis further shows a positive and significant influence of leadership on performance, with a correlation coefficient of 0.503 and a contribution of 16.3%. These findings confirm that improving leadership quality can support better employee performance, although the magnitude of the effect is in the moderate category. The study contributes to hospitality management literature by providing empirical evidence on the role of leadership in shaping room attendant performance. Practically, the findings imply that hotel management should strengthen inspirational leadership practices and empower employees to improve work quality, autonomy, and service performance.

Abstract

Digitalisasi pengelolaan laboratorium menjadi langkah strategis dalam meningkatkan efisiensi operasional dan kualitas layanan di pendidikan tinggi, namun pada Laboratorium Program Studi Manajemen Perhotelan Universitas Negeri Padang masih ditemukan permasalahan berupa proses manual yang memerlukan waktu persetujuan 2–3 hari, risiko kehilangan dokumen, serta keterbatasan akses informasi inventaris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas implementasi Sistem Laboratorium Pariwisata (SILAPAR) dalam meningkatkan efisiensi dan akurasi pengelolaan laboratorium. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif komparatif dengan membandingkan kondisi sebelum dan sesudah implementasi sistem, melalui pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa SILAPAR mampu mempercepat waktu persetujuan menjadi kurang dari 24 jam, meningkatkan akurasi inventaris dari ±60% menjadi ±85%, serta mengurangi penggunaan kertas secara signifikan melalui sistem administrasi digital. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa implementasi sistem terintegrasi efektif dalam meningkatkan efisiensi, akurasi, dan kualitas layanan, sekaligus mendukung konsep paperless dalam pengelolaan laboratorium pendidikan vokasi.

Abstract

Nyarai memiliki potensi besar untuk dikembangkan sebagai destinasi pariwisata berbasis komunitas (Community Based Tourism) di kawasan ASEAN. Namun, tantangan yang dihadapi adalah keterbatasan kemampuan masyarakat lokal dalam berkomunikasi dengan wisatawan asing dan penyediaan layanan akomodasi berstandarkan internasional. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menganalisis peran pelatihan kemampuan bahasa asing dan pelatihan layanan akomodasi yang bersih dan nyaman dalam mewujudkan ASEAN Community Based Tourism di Desa Wisata Nyarai. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif melalui pelatihan yang melibatkan masyarakat lokal, pelaku usaha pariwisata, dan pihak pemerintah daerah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan bahasa asing meningkatkan kemampuan masyarakat dalam berinteraksi dengan wisatawan mancanegara, sementara pelatihan akomodasi bersih dan nyaman berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas layanan pariwisata. Penguatan kedua aspek ini secara simultan mendukung pencapaian pariwisata berkelanjutan di Desa Wisata Nyarai khususnya dalam mewujudkan Asean Community based Tourism, sehingga meningkatkan daya saingnya di tingkat ASEAN.

Abstract

Kabupaten, Pasaman Barat merupakan Kabupaten ke-2 tertinggi penyumbang jumlah penduduk miskin di Sumatera Barat. Pada tahun 2022, angka kemiskinan Pasaman Barat masih tercatat sebesar 6,93 persen setara dengan 32.910 jiwa (BPS 2023). Selain permasalahan angka kemiskinan, angka pengangguran di Pasaman Barat tercatat 13.377 dari 223.000 orang angkatan kerja pada 2022. Beberapa penyebab tingginya angka penggangguran di Pasaman Barat adalah: lapangan kerja yang sedikit dengan tingkat populasi penduduk meningkat, tingkat pendidikan dan lapangan kerja tidak sesuai serta masih kurangnya keterampilan para pencari kerja. Salah satu kecamatan yang memiliki sumberdaya wisata yang potensial untuk dikembangakan sebagai destinasi wisata bahari adalah Kecamatan Sungai Beremas. Kecamatan Sungai Beremas hanya terdiri dari satu Nagari, yaitu Nagari Air Bangis. Nagari ini memiliki luas wilayah yang mencapai 440,48 KM2. Potensi wisata bahari ini belum dimanfaatkan sebagai usaha pariwisata yang dapat memberikan dampak positif terhadap perekonomian. Masyarakat Nagari Air Bangis masih bekerja pada sektor perikanan dan Perkebunan. Berbagai tantangan yang dihadapi masyarakat pesisir, khususnya di bidang perekonomian, menjadikan wisata bahari di kawasan pesisir yang mempunyai potensi besar untuk dapat dikembangkan (1). Upaya pemerintah untuk mendongkrak sektor pariwisata sudah dilakukan dengan membentuk Kelompok Sadar Wisata di Nagari ini, dengan nama Pokdarwis Sembilan Naga Wisata Wisata yang dibentuk sejak tahun 2019. Kelompok Sadar Wisata ini belum banyak mendapatkan perhatian dari pemerintah daerah khususnya dari Dinas Pariwisata setempat. Pokdarwis belum diberdayakan sebagai pengelola kegiatan pariwisata di Nagari Air Bangis, khususnya wisata bahari yang sangat potensial. Dalam hal pengembangan sumberdaya manusia pariwisata, Pokdarwis Sembilan Naga Wisata Wisata sudah pernah diberikan pelatihan wisata selam (diving), dan sudah menghasilkan 6 (enam) orang penyelam berlisensi A1 (Open Water), dan salah seorang diantaranya sudah memiliki lisensi sebagai pemandu snorkeling. Namun hal ini tidak langsung membuat aktifitas wisata selam seperti snorkeling langsung berkembang. Pengembangan wisata bahari perlu dimulai dengan menberikan pelatihan berbasis kompetensi dan sertifikasi dibidang wisata selam, khususnya snorkeling yang aktifitasnya mudah untuk dilakukan oleh wisatawan. Anggota pokdarwis yang telah memiliki lisensi A1 (Open Water) maupun yang belum memiliki sertifikasi A1 perlu ditingkatkan kompetensinya menjadi pemandu snorkeling, agar dapat memberikan layanan kepemanduan snorkeling kepada wisatawan yang ingin melaksanakan aktifitas wisata snorkeling di kawasan wisata bahari Air Bangis. Selain itu, alat-alat snorkeling juga belum ada yang dimiliki oleh Pokdarwis Sembilan Naga Wisata Wisata, sehingga wisatawan juga sulit untuk memperoleh jasa penyewaan alat tersebut
