Abstract

Nagari Tabek Panjang, located in Baso District, Agam Regency, is a village rich in tourism potential, encompassing natural, cultural, and artificial attractions. However, low tourist visitation remains a significant challenge. One contributing factor is the absence of derivative products from homestays that could serve as attractions to extend tourists' length of stay. Therefore, it is essential to develop homestays by utilizing local community houses and traditional houses near tourist attractions. This community service activity aims to facilitate the residents of Nagari Tabek Panjang in acquiring knowledge and skills to manage homestays and develop tourism packages. Consequently, it is expected that tourists will be encouraged to stay longer. Activities conducted include training on introducing homestays as part of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) and training on developing derivative homestay products. These outcomes are expected to support tourism development and enhance the local economy in Nagari Tabek Panjang.

Abstract

Abstract

This scholarly investigation examines the effect of hotel hallmarks of the hotel industry, service quality of internship and internship satisfaction on undergraduate hotel management students' future career intentions in the hotel industry. A quantitative approach through a cross-sectional study with a self-reported survey questionnaire was undertaken. The sample and the unit of analysis is among hotel management students from Universitas Negeri Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia who had undergone internships program. The study employs Partial-least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) in response to the hypotheses. The results clearly demonstrated that hallmarks of the hotel industry (less pleasant work environments, heavy job responsibilities, slow career development opportunities, and less recognition of work achievement) did not possess negative impact on hospitality interns’ students future career intentions in the hotel industry. Hotel internship service quality and internship satisfaction strongly influence hospitality interns’ students future career intentions in the hotel industry. The findings manifestly provide valuable insights and far-reaching consequences for students, hospitality institutions, industry stakeholders and policymakers.

This study aims to optimize digital marketing strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Balai Kaliki Tourism Village, Payakumbuh City, West Sumatra. The research is grounded in the crucial role of SMEs in driving local economic development while facing challenges related to limited digital literacy and market access. The study employed Participatory Action Research (PAR), engaging 10 SMEs as both research participants and co-researchers through the stages of problem identification, planning, action, and reflection. The findings indicate that the implementation of social media-based digital marketing, branding, and e-commerce integration significantly improved SMEs’ online visibility, customer engagement, and sales performance, with average sales growth exceeding 40%. Furthermore, SME owners’ confidence and practical skills in managing digital marketing activities increased substantially, from an average of 25–30% before the intervention to over 85% afterwards. The contribution of this study to the field of education lies in strengthening participatory and practice-based learning models, which not only transfer knowledge but also build sustainable digital entrepreneurship capacity. These results highlight the importance of collaborative approaches in entrepreneurship education to reinforce SME competitiveness in the digital transformation era.
