Abstract

Background: Although Indonesia holds the largest share of global crude palm oil (CPO) exports, large market share does not necessarily imply market power. Competition with Malaysia remains intense in major importing countries, particularly India, Pakistan, and China, where differences in demand structure and price responsiveness may shape each supplier’s export position.Purpose: This study aims to (1) analyze Indonesia’s CPO export market share in major importing countries and (2) evaluate Indonesia’s export market position relative to Malaysia using a demand-system approach.Design/methodology/approach: Monthly data for 1994–2023 were compiled from UN Comtrade, ITC, BPS, and FAOSTAT. The analysis applies the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) estimated using the Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) method to identify demand responses and substitution patterns between Indonesian and Malaysian CPO exports.Findings/Result:The results show that Indonesia’s CPO exports dominate the Pakistani market, maintain a strong position in India, and face balanced competition in China. Elasticity estimates indicate relatively stable demand in India and Pakistan, whereas stronger substitution patterns and higher price sensitivity characterize the Chinese market. Conclusion:  Indonesia’s export position varies across markets: strongest in Pakistan, strong in India, and more competitive in China. These differences reflect heterogeneous demand structures and varying levels of substitution between Indonesian and Malaysian CPO.Originality/Value (State of the Art): This study provides a long-term market-specific assessment of Indonesia’s CPO export positioning using a theoretically consistent AIDS framework. The findings contribute new empirical evidence on substitution dynamics and competitive interactions between Indonesia and Malaysia in major global CPO markets. Keywords: AIDS, CPO, demand-system approach, export market, market position

Abstract

Background: Despite being the world's dominant CPO producer (contributing approximately 58 percent of global output in 2023), Indonesia structurally operates as a price taker. CPO pricing consistently refers to international exchanges (BMD and Rotterdam) because domestic futures exchanges (BBJ/ICDX) are suboptimal due to the voluntary and inconsistent implementation of Bappebti Regulation No. 7/2023, which leads to low liquidity and transaction fragmentation.Purpose: This study addresses the underexplored gap by analyzing how global market integration and domestic price factors jointly determine Indonesian CPO forward prices and their causal relationship with Malaysia and Rotterdam prices.Design/Methodology/Approach: The study utilized monthly data from May 2010 to January 2025, as this period captures major global economic events, policy changes, and market fluctuations that significantly influenced Indonesia’s CPO price dynamics. The econometric models employed include the Error Correction Model (ECM) and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), supported by Granger Causality, Impulse Response Function (IRF), and Variance Decomposition (VD) analyses. Findings/Results: The Indonesian CPO forward price is positively and significantly influenced by both Malaysian and Rotterdam CPO prices. Causality analysis confirms the price-taker status, identifying a one-way causal relationship in which Malaysia and Rotterdam predict Indonesian price changes. Dynamically, Indonesian prices exhibit a sensitive adjustment, responding positively to global shocks only briefly before they turn negative. The Rotterdam CPO price is the most significant external contributor to the Indonesian price variance over the long term. Conclusion: The findings confirm the persistent structural dependence of Indonesian CPO prices on international benchmarks. This underscores the urgent need for decisive policy intervention specifically, the mandatory domestic CPO trading policy through the Indonesia Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (ICDX) to foster stronger market liquidity, thereby enabling Indonesia to leverage its global production dominance and effectively transition into a global price reference for CPO.Originality/Value (State of the Art): This study provides a cutting-edge empirical contribution by combining ECM–VECM, IRF, and VD models to measure the structural relationships among major CPO markets. Unlike previous studies that typically examine price transmission using only single-equation models or limited time frames, this study incorporates a longer dataset and a comprehensive multivariate framework to capture both short-run adjustments and long-run causality. This study fills a key gap in the literature regarding the persistent structural dependence of Indonesian CPO prices on international benchmarks and highlights the urgency of strengthening Indonesia's role in the global pricing mechanism.  Keywords: crude palm oil, futures exchange, price integration, causality analysis, econometric models

Abstract

This study aims to identify leading sectors that drive regional economic development and to examine the determinants of regional inequality in Southern West Java. Despite substantial development progress in West Java Province, regional disparities remain relatively high, particularly in the southern region, as reflected by the Williamson Index in recent years. This study employs secondary data obtained from official statistical publications and relevant government institutions. The analysis applies Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift–Share methods to identify leading sectors, followed by panel data regression to examine the determinants of regional inequality. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of sectoral analysis and inequality determinants within a unified empirical framework to support regional development policy. The results show that the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector constitute the primary base sector in Southern West Java. Furthermore, road infrastructure and the Human Development Index are found to have a positive effect on regional inequality. In contrast, economic growth and population size have a negative effect, highlighting the importance of inclusive growth and equitable infrastructure development.

Abstract

In order to increase service performance of government agencies, the stakeholders have to pay attention to the satisfaction of the public it serves. This study aimed to determine the level of public satisfaction and further willbe analyzed the gap between service performances of the agency and public satisfaction to the service of Land Office of Bekasi City. This research was conducted at the Land Office of Bekasi City; held from March to June 2014. The design used in this study was a cross-sectional study. The samples were chosen by convenience sampling technique. Analysis of the gap was measured by Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The results showed that the quality of land registration services that was provided by the Land Office of Bekasi City had not meet people's satisfaction. This was indicated by the difference between the average score of the service performance (3,22) and an the average score of the expectations (3,77). This finding showed a gap of -0,55 that means the service performance of the agency still lower that public expectation for the services. Moreover, punctuality was indicator that that had high gap score between the service performance and public satisfaction. Therefore, Land Office of Bekasi should have a policy to discipline its employees to be on time in service of land registration.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the level of community satisfaction to the services of land registration in Land Office of Bogor. This study is expected to find indicators as a priority in the improvement of service quality. Level of community satisfaction was measured using five dimensions, i.e. reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy and tangible. Based on the results of the study, the overall dimensions of service quality in the first land registration through a process of the recognition of the rights granted by Land Office of Bogor District did not meet community satisfaction. Community dissatisfaction to the quality indicator of officer was marked by the difference between the average performance score of 3,58 with an average expectation score of 3,76 in order to obtain an average score of negative gap of -0,18. Indicators which are prioritized to improve community satisfaction with quality service of land registration are the clarity of service conditions, certainty of service cost, and timeliness of certificate completion. Managerial implication of recommended increasing satisfaction of service were a need to adjust the standard conditions of service, evaluating and reviewing existing policies and policies which are no longer relevant to the current conditions, creating a standard of service that is simpler, add service information in writing, improve the knowledge and abilities of employees through education and training.
