Abstract

This study aimed to describe the students' motivation during the implementation of guided inquiry strategy onlearning of Science, and to describe improving learning achievement of students after the implementation of guided inquiry strategy on learning of Science in the Class VI at SDN 15 Palu, The method used was the classroom action research, implemented at SDN 15 Palu school year 2014/2015 in the Class VI consisted of 26 students. This study was conducted over two cycles. Each cycle included of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were qualitative collected through observation techniques, and quantitative obtained by giving a test at the end of each cycle. Results of the study showed that the implementation of guided inquiry strategy improved effectively learning achievement of students in the Class VI at SDN 15 Palu. Improving learning achievement was demonstrated by the acquisition of their learning achievement sat the first cycle as follows: the percentage of individual absorption was good average, the percentage of classical completeness was good average, and the percentage of classical absorption was good average. Those were increased at the second cycle: the percentage of individual absorption was very good average, the percentage of classical completeness was very good average, and the percentage of classical absorption was still good average, respectively. Activities of the teacher at the first cycle was good average, and at the second cycle was very good average. Activitiesof students at the first cycle was good average, and increased at the second cycle into a very good average. The use of guided inquiry strategy improved student’s motivation. Improving student’s motivation was indicated by increasing motivation with a good average at the first cycle to a very good average at the second cycle. This study concluded that the implementation of guided inquiry strategy improved motivation and learning achievement of students.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of technology-driven simulations in improving high school students' practical skills in mechanical measurement within the context of physics education. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving control groups and pretest-posttest samples to assess students' understanding and application of mechanical measurement concepts. The results indicate that simulations significantly enhance students' accuracy and comprehension of mechanical measurements compared to traditional teaching methods. Notably, visual and kinesthetic learners benefit the most from using simulations prior to engaging in physical experiments. The combination of simulations and hands-on experiments was found to be more effective in developing practical skills than either approach alone. These findings underscore the value of integrating technology-driven simulations into physics curricula, particularly for enhancing learning outcomes and practical skills in mechanical measurement, with a specific advantage for learners with visual and kinesthetic preferences.

Abstract

Abstract

Developing students’ cognitive abilities and scientific argumentation skills is critical in physics education, yet traditional teacher-centered approaches often fail to achieve these goals. This study investigates the impact of integrating the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model with the scientific method on students’ conceptual understanding and argumentation quality. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 64 Grade XI science students from a senior high school in Palu, Indonesia. Participants were assigned to an experimental group (ADI + scientific method) and a control group (ADI only) through a cluster random sampling method. Both groups studied the topic of heat and temperature over three sessions. Cognitive ability was measured using a validated multiple-choice test targeting understanding (C2), application (C3), and analysis (C4), while argumentation skills were assessed using an open-ended test based on Toulmin’s Argument Pattern. Results showed that the experimental group achieved higher normalized gains in cognitive ability (0.65, medium) compared to the control group (0.37, medium), and in argumentation skills (0.76, high) compared to 0.66 (medium). A strong positive correlation (r = 0.61, p < 0.001) was observed between cognitive and argumentation gains, indicating a reciprocal relationship. The novelty of this study lies in embedding scientific method phases into ADI’s discourse structure, producing measurable synergy between conceptual and epistemic outcomes. The findings contribute to physics education by offering an empirically supported instructional model that fosters both content mastery and scientific reasoning, providing a framework for enhancing scientific literacy in secondary classrooms.
