Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the students' interlingual and intralingual interferences of Tourism Study Program at a State University in North Bali. A qualitative approach was applied by examining the students' final projects of English writing for the academic year 2020/2021.  In this case study, 15 final projects were chosen using the purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done through reading, note-taking, classifying, and describing. The findings revealed that the most frequent interlingual form produced by the students was using Indonesian Syntax Pattern, while the intralingual form was the simplifications. Therefore, interlingual and intralingual interferences were found in the students' final project. There are two implications of this study, i.e. (i) teachers need to enhance their pedagogy for the teaching and learning sessions, particularly English grammar, (ii) students should learn more the English grammatical rules, which they can access many sources to learn English through watching a movie, listening to songs, talking with native speakers, reading novels and magazines.Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis interlingual dan intralingual mahasiswa Program Studi Pariwisata di salah satu Universitas Negeri di Bali Utara. Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan menguji tugas akhir siswa dalam penulisan bahasa Inggris pada tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Dalam studi kasus ini, dipilih 15 tugas akhir dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui membaca, mencatat, mengklasifikasi, dan mendeskripsikan. Hasil temuan mengungkapkan bentuk interlingual yang paling sering dihasilkan oleh siswa adalah menggunakan Pola Sintaks Bahasa Indonesia sedangkan bentuk intralingualnya adalah penyederhanaan. Dengan dimikian, terdapat error interlingual dan intralingual dalam tugas akhir mahasiswa. Ada dua implikasi dari penelitian ini, yaitu (i) pengajar perlu meningkatkan pedagogi mereka untuk proses belajar mengajar khususnya tata bahasa Inggris, (ii) pembelajar harus mempelajari lebih lanjut aturan tata bahasa Inggris. Mereka dapat mengakses banyak sumber untuk belajar bahasa Inggris seperti menonton film, mendengarkan lagu, berbicara dengan penutur asli, membaca novel maupun majalah.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAlthough reading aloud is an old teaching strategy, its relevance has been vouched by research from time to time. The present study aimed to critically review experts' opinions and results of previous research on the definition and characteristics of reading aloud and its benefits for young children in the EFL contexts by employing George’s (2008) model of literature review. The review revealed that the teacher plays the most crucial role in reading aloud, acting as the bridge between the text and the student's comprehension. A good design of reading aloud demands the teacher’s competence in choosing the text to meet the students’ interest and level; planning the tempo of the reading and the pauses to pose questions and comments; and making connections with the text and the children. Reading aloud benefits children’s English regarding their vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, listening skills, reading skills, speaking skills, communicative skills, and motivation, literacy, and critical thinking skills. These results imply that reading aloud is still relevant to be implemented nowadays because of the benefits it brings to children’s English. ABSTRAKMeski sering dianggap metode lama, membaca nyaring memberi banyak manfaat. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kajian kritis terhadap pendapat ahli dan penelitian terdahulu mengenai pengertian, ciri khas, serta manfaat membaca nyaring, dengan mengikuti model penelitian kajian pustaka George (2008). Diungkapkan bahwa guru menjadi penentu kesuksesan kegiatan membaca nyaring sebagai jembatan yang menghubungkan siswa dengan teks yang dibaca. Kegiatan membaca nyaring bergantung pada kemampuan guru untuk memilih teks yang sesuai dengan minat dan kemampuan siswa, serta merancang proses pembacaan terkait tempo dan penempatan jeda untuk memberi komentar, bertanya, maupun membuat kaitan-kaitan antara teks dan siswa. Ahli dan penelitian terdahulu berpendapat bahwa kegiatan membaca nyaring berkontribusi secara positif terhadap siswa terkait pembentukan kosakata, pelafalan, pemahaman, keterampilan mendengar, membaca, berbicara, dan berkomunikasi, serta motivasi, literasi, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis berkomunikasi mereka. Jadi, membaca nyaring sangat relevan diimmplementasikan pada jaman sekarang karena kegiatan ini sangat positif untuk perkembangan Bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

AYDA is one alternative to a takeover of problem loan taken by PT. BPR Tata Anjung Sari to decrease the number of problem loan. AYDA process has some drawbacks one of which is the presence of interested third parties who are not willing bank to taken their collateral. If this happens then the PT. BPR Tata Anjung Sari will take restructure loans. If restructuring was not successful then the bank will do the write-off of the loan. Key words : Bank, AYDA, Problem Loan, Collateral

Abstract

This study focuses on the development of lexicon by a child raised simulatneously in Indonesian and German from birth. In the immediate family members, the child received Indonesian from the mother and German from the father. The data was collected in natural setting when the child was 1;0 up to 3;0. In collecting the data, diary records and weekly video recordings were used. The data was analized using two softwares, ELAN and Toolbox. The child’s speech was segmented based on the child’s utterances. The result of the study shows that at the end of the study the child developed 521 lexicon in Indonesian and 243 in German. Both in Indonesian and German the child acquired more nouns than verbs. Besides, the child also developed about 164 translation equivalents. Thus, it confirms that the bilingual child developed two different lexical systems.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) mendeskripsikan cara media harian nasional Kompas dalam memberitakan situasi politik jelang PILPRES 2009 dilihat dari segi kosa kata dan bentuk kalimat yang digunakan, dan 2) mendeskripsikan cara wacana politik membentuk citra (image) figur calon presiden dan wakil presiden yang berkompetisi dalam PILPRES 2009. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana pada level teks dengan menggunakan analisis dengan mengadaptasi model van Dijk. Teks berita yang digunakan sebagai sumber data adalah teks berita yang terbit pada edisi April 2009 sampai Juni 2009. Data dikumpulkan melalui studi dokumen dengan mengkliping teks, pembuatan kartu data, tabulasi data yang akan dianalisis serta interpretasi dan pendeskripsian data. Pilihan kosa yang digunakan Kompas dihiasi dengan kosa kata yang menggambarkan cara partai politik membentuk koalisi serta pilihan kata yang menggambarkan pertentangan antara kubu partai yang berseberangan. Bentuk kalimat yang digunakan adalah bentuk kalimat aktif, pasif dan nominalisasi. Bentuk kalimat pasif lebih sering digunakan dalam menulis judul teks berita baripada bentuk aktifnya. Dalam setiap teks berita yang dimuat dalam Kompas ada sebuah pembenaran atau ideologi yang ingin disampaikan oleh Kompas melalui wartawannya. Untuk mendukung ideologi ini, wartawan Kompas memuat latar peristiwa serta mengutip pernyataan-pernyataan-pernyataan pihak yang terlibat. Pengambaran citra oleh Kompas dilakukan dengan cara mengutip slogan kampanye, mengaitkan latar belakang pendidikan dan pekerjaan atau jabatan sebelumnya, serta dengan cara memuat komentar-komentar pakar tentang kandidat yang bersaing. Abstract The obejctives of this research are 1) describing the ways Kompas, a national daily newspaper, in informing the political situation before the Presidential election in 2009 based on its lexical and sentence structure and 2) describing how Kompas form the image of the presidential candidates. The research is a descriptive study using the model of discourse analisis designed by van Dijk. The texts used as sources of data are texs from April 2009 to June 2009. The data was collected through document study using a number of procedures such as collecting the texts, designing data cards, tabulating data, interpreting, analyzing and describing the data. The result of the study shows that the lexicon used by Kompas were related to the ways the political parties in seeking coalition and also using lexicon in describing parties which were in opposition. The form of sentence structure used were active, pasive and nomalisation. The idiology conveyed by Kompas was supported by describing the background of the event and using quotation uttered by political leaders especially by the presidential candidates. The image of the candidates were formed by confronting the candidates’ slogans, educational bacground, previous job and position also by mentioning comment from experts about the competing candidates.

Abstract

Literature confirms that various errors made by Indonesian learners of English as a foreign language are challenging phenomenon which needs our concern. The errors found are both in speech and composition production, which portray the effectiveness of language learning. Students language that belongs neither native nor target language is called interlanguage (IL). The focus of this study is to present the empirical results of the investigation on the IL features of students' speech production. It aims to describe the types and aspects of the native language (NL) and target language (TL) influences and to explain the possible causes of IL production. The data were in the form of 144 ill-formed utterances. In gathering the data, the students were given a guided picture with the topic ‘Last Holiday’. The students' speech was video recorded. The ill-formed utterances were collected, identified, described, and explained. The result of the study shows that both of their NL and TL influenced the students' interlanguage production at the syntactical level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa implementasi pembelajaran Movie Watching dan identifikasi aspek-aspek lintas budaya dapat meningkatkan pemahaman dan aktivitas mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran Cross Cultural Understanding. Di samping itu, penelitian ini juga melihat kendala-kendala yang dihadapi dalam penerapan teknik pembelajaran tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2006/2007. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 2 Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Diploma-3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) pemahaman mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah Cross Cultural Understanding cukup baik, yaitu seluruh mahasiswa mencapai nilai lulus, (2) lebih dari 50% dari seluruh jumlah mahasiswa berpartisipasi aktif dalam perkuliahan baik dalam diskusi kelas maupun kelompok, (3) mahasiswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menyimak film yang tokoh-tokohnya merupakan penutur asli bahasa Inggris. Pada dasarnya, Cross Cultural Understanding adalah mata kuliah konten yang menuntut mahasiswa sudah memiliki keterampilan berbahasa Inggris yang baik.Key words: movie watching, cross cultural understanding, target language culture

Abstract

The present study aims at finding out 1) words from other languages especially Englishwhich occur in Indonesian discourse and 2) Indonesian words which occur in Englishdiscourse used by mixed marriages family in the tourism area of Lovina. To reach theabove purposes, the data was collected through partisipant observation and analyseddescriptively. The result of the study shows that both Indonesian-English and English-Indonesian code mixing used by the family related to activities done by them such ashaving meal, doing out door activities, and school related topics. The English wordswere used in Indonesian discourse because it was almost imposible or far too complicatedto describe the mention things in Indonesian such as things related to food. Thiswas also the case found when Indonesian words were used in English discourse. Both English and Indonesian words consist of noun, verb, and adjectives.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah analisis kebutuhan terhadap materi-materi pembelajaran yang perlu dikembangkan dalam mata kuliah Introduction to Linguistics dan kebutuhan terhadap pembelajarn berbasis e-leaning pada mata kuliah tersebut. Data analisis kebutuhan diperoleh melalui kuestioner yang berisi tentang opini dan anggapan yang diberikan kepada 25 orang mahasiswa pada Jurusan Diploma III bahasa Inggris Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. Melalui penelitian ini diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa mahasiswa membutuhkan pengetahuan di bidang linguistik dan kebutuhan akan perlunya pembelajaran linguistik melalui e-learning. Dari lima sub bidang linguistik, fonetik, fonologi, sintaksis, dan semantik dianggap sangat dibutuhkan. Sedangkan morfologi dianggap sangat dibutuhkan secara signifikan. Kebutuhan terhadap morfologi berada setingkat di atas bidang linguistik lainnya menurut hasil wawancara dengan informan diperoleh informasi bahwa untuk menguasai bahasa asing mereka memerlukan penguasaan kata-kata yang luas. Kata dan pembentukan kata merupakan bagian dari pokok bahasan di bidang morfologi. Hasil analisis kebutuhan ini juga memperlihatkan pentingnya e-learning dalam proses pembelajaran dengan hasil kuesioner yang menunjukkan bahwa e-learning berada dalam kategori sangat dibutuhkan. Pentingnya e-learning dalam pembelajaran Introductuion to Linguistics, salah satunya yakni perlunya visualisasi materi pembelajaran. Visualisasi materi pembelajaran memberikan kesempatan kepada pembelajar untuk melihat contoh-contoh secara nyata dan bukan konsep-konsep yang terlalu abstrak. Hasil penelitian ini sangat berguna dalam pengembangan kurikulum dan pengembangan bahan ajar. Di samping itu, dengan diketahuinya kebutuhan pembelajar, pengajar dapat menyusun materi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan untuk menciptakan proses pembejaran yang efektif. Abstract

The study aimed at finding out the influence of the Balinese culture to the speaking ability of Diploma 3 English Department students. The study was also to find out the efforts of the teachers in overcoming the influence of the culture. The research was conducted at Diploma 3 English Department of Undiksha and the subjects of the research were the students of semester III, year of enrolment 2006/2007. The result of the study shows that the Balinese culture influenced the speaking abilities of the students. The influences are as follows: a) being silent was a way to control situation and an effort to maintain harmony, b) saving face, c) children’s opinion was not ‘important’, d) asking personal questions were the way to do small talk, and e) smiling is a positive way to express oneself. While the teachers try to overcome the influence of the culture through conducting good classroom management, choosing interesting topics, which are also familiar to the students, giving motivation, giving assignments to improve their knowledge, and promoting good relationships between teachers and students.
