Abstract

This study analyzes the types and motivations of swearing uttered by the main character, Wade Wilson, in the movie Deadpool (2016). The research adopts a sociolinguistic approach using a qualitative method. The results reveal six types of swearing: abusive, idiomatic, dysphemistic, cathartic, emphatic, and humorous, and nine motivations, including storytelling, emphasis, emotional release, habit, normality, intimacy, vulnerability, personality, and shock value. The findings indicate that the main character’s swearing serves not only to express anger but also to display humor, emotional depth, and identity. The study concludes that swearing in Deadpool functions as a sociolinguistic tool reflecting the character’s emotional state and social context within the film.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze exposure related to the coherence and cohesiveness of paragraph texts of SMAN 4 Singaraja students in the 2024/2025 academic year, especially in class XI K. The research method used was mixed method consisting of qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The quantitative descriptive method was used to answer the first objective, and the qualitative descriptive method was used to achieve the second objective.  Data were collected through document collection, namely narrative text assignments. Furthermore, the data were analyzed descriptively. In general, the study showed that the average coherence level of students' narrative writing reached 77.13%, which was categorized as ‘good’. This means that most students were able to convey the topic quite clearly and relevantly, using appropriate supporting details, and well-organized purpose and structure. However, topic development was still not maximized and the flow between sentences was sometimes not smooth. In cohesion device, students generally showed use of cohesion, especially lexical cohesion which reached around 60%, as well as conjunctions and references which reached 20% each. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language functions in the posts of the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office on Instagram @visit.northbali to determine the linguistic functions used in digital tourism promotion. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques on posts from January to June 2025. The data were analyzed based on the seven functions of language according to M.A.K. Halliday, namely instrumental, regulatory, interactional, personal, informative, heuristic, and imaginative. The results showed that all functions of language were found, with the informative, instrumental, and imaginative functions dominating, while the regulatory, interactional, personal, and heuristic functions appeared less frequently. The informative function was used to convey clear information about destinations, the instrumental and regulatory functions to encourage audience action, and the personal and imaginative functions to build emotional closeness and a positive image. These findings indicate that the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office strategically combines various language functions to increase the effectiveness of messages and audience engagement in digital tourism promotion.
