Abstract

The increasing use of social media in hospitality marketing has encouraged hotels to employ persuasive language to influence consumer perceptions and engagement. However, limited studies have specifically examined how persuasive language is utilized in Instagram captions within the hospitality industry, particularly through the lens of Cialdini’s principles of persuasion. This study aims to identify the types of persuasive language used in Instagram captions posted by The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali and analyze their functions in delivering promotional messages. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyzed 27 Instagram captions collected from the hotel’s official account over a seven-month period. The data were examined using Cialdini’s principles of persuasion, including liking, unity, reciprocity, commitment and consistency, and scarcity. The findings reveal that five types of persuasive language are present, with liking emerging as the most dominant strategy, indicating a strong emphasis on emotional and experiential appeals. Each persuasive principle serves a distinct function: liking fosters emotional engagement, unity promotes a sense of togetherness, reciprocity highlights added value, commitment and consistency encourage customer participation, and scarcity enhances perceptions of exclusivity. These findings demonstrate that persuasive communication in hospitality marketing is conveyed more through subtle and experience-oriented messages than direct promotional appeals. This study contributes to digital marketing and hospitality literature by providing insights into how persuasive strategies are applied in hotel Instagram captions and offers practical guidance for developing more engaging and effective social media promotional content.

Abstract

TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms in Indonesia, enabling users to share short videos and engage through comments, likes, and shares. Comments on these videos frequently reflect social judgments and moral evaluations, particularly toward female public figures. The present study investigates the ideological messages represented in hate speech comments against women on TikTok. The data were taken from four Ayu Ting Ting (henceforth, ATT) concert videos uploaded in August 2025, selected for their high engagement and numerous negative comments, in which ATT is a famous Indonesian dangdut singer whose popularity often attracts strong public attention and online reactions. A total of 3,619 comments were analyzed using van Dijk’s Socio-Cognitive Approach (SCA) to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to reveal the relationship among textual content, social cognition, and social context. The analysis found that five dominant ideological themes are expressed through the hate speech comments, namely religiosity, racism or ethnocentrism, gender or sexism, social class or economic inequality, and nationalism or xenophobia. It was also shown that polite, humorous, or sarcastic forms frequently contained hate speech, while moral judgment, social control, and discriminatory meanings were conveyed implicitly. The current study illustrates how social norms, moral expectations, and hierarchical power relations are reproduced in online discourse, showing the ways women are socially regulated and marginalized within digital spaces; therefore, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of implicit hate speech and the reinforcement of social ideologies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze exposure related to the coherence and cohesiveness of paragraph texts of SMAN 4 Singaraja students in the 2024/2025 academic year, especially in class XI K. The research method used was mixed method consisting of qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The quantitative descriptive method was used to answer the first objective, and the qualitative descriptive method was used to achieve the second objective.  Data were collected through document collection, namely narrative text assignments. Furthermore, the data were analyzed descriptively. In general, the study showed that the average coherence level of students' narrative writing reached 77.13%, which was categorized as ‘good’. This means that most students were able to convey the topic quite clearly and relevantly, using appropriate supporting details, and well-organized purpose and structure. However, topic development was still not maximized and the flow between sentences was sometimes not smooth. In cohesion device, students generally showed use of cohesion, especially lexical cohesion which reached around 60%, as well as conjunctions and references which reached 20% each. Abstract

The tourism and hospitality industries are growing rapidly and are encouraging digital communication transformation. This study aims to examine the rhetorical structure in the form of moves and steps in the textual content of the Jumeirah Bali website, particularly the Overview page, using an established analytical framework of move analysis to map communicative units in the text. The data were analyzed qualitatively to identify the communicative units in each segment, including attracting attention, introducing features, narrating brand values, and encouraging booking actions. The result identified 10 moves and 10 steps on the Overview subpage, covering hotel descriptions, accommodation types or room categories, main facilities, and special offers (packages). Theoretically, these findings expand the application of move analysis from academic and professional texts to digital hospitality media. In practice, mapping moves and steps guides the design of user experience-oriented web content, namely by organizing essential information at the beginning, clarifying value propositions, and aligning calls to action with visitor needs.

Abstract

Raising bilingual children in this modern era is essential. The use of English is very important both in academic and future careers. Every parent needs to prepare for introducing English. This study examined how parent’s strategies successfully introduce two languages into their child and the effect of raising the child into bilingualism from birth. This study employed a couple of parents, members of families, professional therapies, who actively gave exposure to bilingual children. One Parent One Languages (OPOL) approach into this language policy, regular therapy for helping the languages disorder, and visual- non visual process learning languages are the strategies. This is a case study that was an analysis used by Creswell, which consisted of five stages. This study employs observation and some interviews as data collection methods. This study aims to give recommendations for parents, similar researchers, and future generations to raise any children into bilingualism as early as possible.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning method and its influence on young English language learners’ speaking ability in a primary school context. The introduction outlines the persistent challenges faced by students in developing speaking proficiency, including low confidence, limited vocabulary, and teacher-centered instructional practices. Using a qualitative case study design featuring an ex post facto perspective, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and documentation analysis at SD Bali Kiddy. The results show that STAD fosters a supportive, interactive learning environment that significantly enhances students’ speaking confidence, fluency, vocabulary use, and pronunciation. Heterogeneous grouping enables peer scaffolding, allowing lower-ability learners to benefit from modeling and corrective feedback from their peers. The study also identifies students’ positive emotional responses, including reduced anxiety and increased willingness to participate in oral activities

Abstract

The existence of bilingualism in formal education requires students to develop a deeper understanding of language attitudes and the process of linguistic adaptation. This study aims to explore language attitudes, linguistic adaptation, and bilingual language performance among students from mixed Indonesian-Filipino families within the context of Indonesian education. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, reflective anecdotal notes, and document analysis of student learning outcomes. The validity of the data is ensured through source and technique triangulation. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study found that students demonstrated positive attitudes toward both languages, which were influenced by the intensity of language exposure, affective factors, linguistic competence, learning environment, instructional support, and personal learning preferences. Regarding academic achievement in the classroom, students’ reading ability was stronger than their speaking ability, with English proficiency consistently more dominant and higher than Indonesian language proficiency. The main challenges affecting effective language use in the classroom include affective barriers, vocabulary limitations, communication difficulties, and the need for scaffolding in spontaneous communication. In conclusion, multicultural backgrounds contribute to strong English language preferences due to dominant exposure, while the development of Indonesian language proficiency is constrained by vocabulary limitations and confidence-related challenges. Therefore, students need adaptive instructional support, an inclusive affective approach, and interactive learning stimulation to strengthen their speaking confidence and expand their mastery of Indonesian vocabulary.
