Abstract

Organic wastes of tilapia offal, coconut pulp, and plantain are rarely optimally utilized, but they can be degraded by BSF larvae into nutritious biomass. This study aims to analyze the combination of organic waste macronutrient feed on bioconversion, survival, growth (weight, length, and thickness), and nutritional value (protein, fat, and carbohydrates) of BSF prepupae, using the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method, 4 treatments P1 (50% tilapia offal: 25% plantain: 25% coconut pulp), P2 (25% tilapia offal: 50% plantain: 25% coconut pulp), P3 (25% tilapia offal: 25% plantain: 50% coconut pulp), P4 (33.3% tilapia offal: 33.3% plantain: 33.3% coconut pulp) and 3 repetitions. All treatments resulted in optimal survival (100%, survival). P4 produced an ECD value of 0.034% and WRI of 0.032% indicating the best efficiency and waste reduction. P1 was the best variation for weight at 5.69 g, length 19.7 mm, and thickness 5.8 mm. The Post Hoc Tuckey test showed no significant difference between treatments in weight and thickness parameters, but not in length parameters (<0.05). The protein content of P1 43.75%, fat P2 29.764%, and carbohydrate P2 1.374% were close to SNI 7994:2014 (meat bone meal, quality II). It was concluded that macronutrient feed waste affects bioconversion, survival, growth and nutritional value of BSF.

Abstract

Low levels of disaster literacy and critical thinking among students highlight the need for innovative and contextualized learning media in science education. This research develops and evaluates the effectiveness of a flood disaster mitigation science E-comic to enhance students’ critical thinking and disaster preparedness. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Validation results indicated that the E-comic is feasible as a learning medium, with CVI values of 0.89 (media) and 1.00 (content). The use of the E-comic effectively improved students’ critical thinking skills and disaster preparedness, as evidenced by high N-Gain scores and significant statistical results. The improvement was consistently observed across all disaster preparedness indicators, including knowledge, attitudes, and response planning. The study concludes that the flood disaster mitigation E-comic is both effective and feasible as a contextual science learning medium. The integration of flood-related physical science concepts demonstrates how contextualized media can strengthen scientific literacy in disaster education.

Abstract

Waste from male banana peels (Musa paradisiaca Var. Paradisiaca), Ambon banana peels (Musa paradisiaca Var. Sapientum), and kepok banana peels (Musa acuminate L.) can be used as natural water filtration. The content of pectin, galacturonic acid and cellulose in banana peels can absorb heavy metals in water. This research aims to determine the filtration ability of natural waste materials such as kepok banana peels, Ambon banana peels and male banana peels which are most effectively used as water filtration media. This research consists of the sample preparation stage, carbonization stage, activation stage, and trial stage. The method used is an experimental method on a laboratory scale to measure Potential Hydrogen (pH), Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), and the level of clarity in water. The data obtained was tested using the Anova test with a significance level of 5% and the BNT test. Based on the BNT test which shows that male banana peels are not significantly proportional to the TDS of well water. Meanwhile, Ambon banana peel and Kepok banana peel are significantly proportional to TDS, and for Kepok banana peel, Ambon banana peel and male banana peel, it is significantly proportional to the pH of well water, because the significance results are less than 0.05%. From these findings it can be concluded that Kepok banana peels and Ambon banana peels are the most effective water filtration media to use.

Abstract

AbstractThe primary objective of this paper is to address the mitigation of disasters resulting from climate change and global warming. Such disasters are the result of increased greenhouse gas emissions, primarily caused by human activities like deforestation and the use of fossil fuels. To analyze the concept of hydrocarbon combustion from basic competencies (KD) 3.3 and 4.3 of chemistry class XI, we employed a qualitative descriptive method supported by a literature review. The paper investigates the relationship between climate change, the greenhouse effect, the carbon cycle, and their effects on the environment and health. Furthermore, it proposes a learning design that combines the Research-Based Learning (RBL) model with the STEAM approach to enhance students' comprehension of climate change, the consequences of hydrocarbon combustion, and emergency response measures. One of the highlighted learning strategies is the creation of an interactive and engaging mini park mockup to facilitate student understanding. The use of technology, specifically machine learning, is recommended for decision making in global warming disaster mitigation. This paper stresses the significance of integrating chemistry learning for knowledge and skills development in KD 3.3 and 4.3, and for understanding global warming and disaster mitigation efforts. The goal is to provide students with science literacy skills as well as the ability to identify concrete actions in reducing the negative impacts of climate change.
