Rabies is a zoonotic disease that is most feared by tourists visiting Bali because of the high mortality rate. Bali is an area with the highest Rabies incidence in Indonesia. We conducted community service in Taman Village, Bali in the form of education and implementation of mass rabies vaccination as a form of rabies prevention efforts. This community service was aimed to increase public knowledge about the danger of rabies and increase public participation in vaccinating their pets against rabies. The method of this community service consists of several stages, including dialogue and coordination with partners, preparation of facilities and infrastructure, implementation of activities and evaluation. The education provided include rabies and management of dog bite. Counseling regarding COVID-19 dan health protocols was also given on this occasion because the activities were carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. This activity was attended by 20 residents as well as dog owners. The enthusiasm of the residents in the activity was very good, as evidenced by almost all the questions in the posttest that the participants were able to answer correctly. Re-exposure is given to participants who are unable to answer or answer incorrectly on the posttest. This community service is expected to be carried out regularly and continuously to eradicate rabies in Bali.

Introduction: Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss has several risk factors, with hypertension as one of them. Hypertension might cause presbycusis since it can interfere with nutrient and oxygen intake to the auditory nerve cells of the ear. This study aimed to determine the relationship between hypertension with the incidence of presbycusis at the Poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar. Methods: This study used an analytic retrospective design and cross-sectional method. The study was conducted at the Poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar with a sample of 60 people. Data were obtained using medical records and analyzed univariately and bivariate using SPSS for Windows with a p-value of 0.05. Results: Most subjects are 65-75 years old rather than >75, with male subjects of the same amount as female subjects. Chi-square test (x2) distribution table analysis demonstrated an association between hypertension and presbycusis incident in Poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar with a p-value of 0,002. Conclusion: Most samples are in the 65-75 age range with the same proportionate amount of gender. There is an association between hypertension and presbycusis in Poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar. Latar Belakang: Presbikusis atau age related hearing loss memiliki beberapa faktor resiko dengan hipertensi sebagai salah satunya. Hipertensi dapat menyebabkan presbikusis karena dapat mengganggu asupan nutrisi dan oksigen sel-sel saraf auditori di telinga. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi hubungan hipertensi dan kejadian presbikusis di poliklinik Telinga, Hidung, Tenggorokan, Bedah Kepala dan Leher (THT-KL) RSUP Sanglah Denpasar. Metode: Desain yang digunakan yakni retrospektif analitik dan metode cross-sectional. Lokasi penenlitian yakni poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar dan jumlah sampel 60 orang. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan rekam medis dan dianalisis secara univariat dan bivariat melalui aplikasi SPSS dengan nilai p ≤ 0,05. Hasil: Didapatkan sampel lebih banyak berumur 65-75 tahun dibanding sampel berumur >75 tahun. Untuk jenis kelamin, ditemukan sampel dalam proporsi yang sama dan dari hasil uji chi square, didapat adanya korelasi antara hipertensi dengan kejadian presbikusis di Poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar dengan nilai p = 0,002. Simpulan: Mayoritas sampel berumur 65-75 tahun dengan proporsi jenis kelamin yang sama. Diperoleh hubungan hipertensi dan kejadian presbikusis di poliklinik THT-KL RSUP Sanglah Denpasar.

Empirical Use of Antibiotics in Pneumonia PatientsBackground: antibiotic as definitive therapy for pneumonia must be given within 8 hours, but on the other hand, to identify the cause of pneumonia will take several days so antibiotic are often given empirically. This will lead into the inaccuracy of choosing antibiotic for pneumonia patients. Inappropriate use of antibiotic can result in less effective treatment, decreased drug safety, increased resistance, and treatment costs. This analytical study of the use of antibiotics is important in relation to evaluating the use of antibiotic for pneumonia in medical practice. Objectives: : this study was to analyze and evaluate the patterns of antibiotic use in pneumonia patients, especially monotherapy and polytherapy antibiotics. Methods: the research location was in Wangaya Hospital, Denpasar City. Data collection was carried out retrospectively based on medical record data of pneumonia patients that hospitalized in 2017-2018. Patients diagnosed as pneumonia with code ICD-10 J.18, aged over 17 years, and receiving antibiotic therapy were included in the study. Results: we found the most widely used antibiotic were the combination of cefoperazone and levofloxacin (24.2%). Conclusion: there is one type of antibiotic combination that has a risk of major interactions that should be avoided.

Malnutrition is the primary cause of morbidity and mortality in children. The term of malnutrition includes a state of undernutrition and overnutrition, that is caused by consumption of food that is lacking, poor absorption, or excessive loss of nutrients. To assess the nutritional status of children age 4-6 years old in local village, Bali. This research was a cross-sectional descriptive study with 60 subject which were kindergarten students in Bali and with 60 respondents which were the mother of the subjects. The data collecting technique of this research was purposive sampling, with using questionnaire for respondents and direct measurement for the subjects. Most of the respondents were in normal category based on anthropometry index. We also found the prevalence of over nutrition were higher than undernutrition. Undernutrition status was found more in children with less nutrient intake, normal nutrition status was found more in children with good nutrition intake, while over nutrition status was more dominant in children with high nutrition intake. Most of research subjects which are children age 4-6 years old in local village Bali are on normal category of nutritional status. This result are expected to be a basis in anticipation of further research and for making public health programs

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of diabetes mellitus microvascular complications. Engulfment and cell motility 1 (ELMO1) protein interacts with dedicator of cytokinesis 180 (DOCK180) and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, which affects gene expression in extracellular matrix (ECM) and causes glomerular damage in several mechanisms, such as ECM accumulation and renal tubules thickening. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs741301 is one of the ELMO1 genetic polymorphisms involved in DKD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between ELMO1 rs741301 polymorphism and DKD in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among Balinese.Materials and methods: This study was an observational analytical study with case-control method. Subjects were divided into control and case groups comprising 40 subjects each. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) of DNA from T2DM patients were performed to detect the polymorphism in ELMO1 rs741301. Genotype and allele distribution obtained from this study was analyzed by chi-square (χ2) test and Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium law (p<0.05; CI: 95%).Results: There was no significant difference between genotype or allele distribution of ELMO1 rs741301 with DKD incidence. Genotype AA against GG had odds ratio (OR) of 0.793 (p=0.814), AG against GG had OR of 0.602 (p=0.674), and A allele against G allele had OR of 0.761 (p=0.509).Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between ELMO1 rs741301 polymorphism and DKD in T2DM patients among Balinese.Keywords: ELMO1 gene, diabetic kidney disease, polymorphism

Low hemoglobin levels due to anemia in pregnancy can affect the baby's APGAR score. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between anemia in pregnant women and the APGAR score of newborns at the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar. This research is an analytic observational study with a cross sectional research design. This study used medical records data of patients who gave birth vaginally and had normal births, did not have low birth weight, had normal first and second stages of labor, and had complete laboratory data on hemoglobin levels and APGAR scores. Data on mothers experiencing obstetric complications other than anemia were excluded from this study. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate using Chi-square hypothesis test. From 140 samples of pregnant women, there were 78 (55,7%) samples of pregnant women who had anemia and 62 (44,3%) samples of pregnant women was not had anemia. Bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between anemia in pregnant women and the APGAR score of newborns with p value = 0.001 (p <0.05). We concluded that there was a relationship between anemia in pregnant women and the APGAR score of newborns at the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar.

Usadha or herbal-based traditional medicine has been widely used by the people of Indonesia, especially Bali. Bali is considered to have a great potential to become an area for developing herbal tourism destinations. Gianyar Botanical Garden is one of the tourist destinations in Bali which is suitable to be developed into a usadha tourist destination. This community service activity aims to provide initial ideas for the development of the Gianyar Botanical Gardens as an usadha tourist destination through focus group discussions, socialization, counseling, and provision of additional plant collections Tulsi "the queen of herbs", and promotional assistance through social media. The entire series of activities had been carried out in July 2022. The activities were also combined with the field visit activities of the Elective Study of Balinese Herbal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Warmadewa University. It is expected that the program will not only be able to increase the branding of the Gianyar Botanical Gardens but also herbal based medicine, especially among millennials.

Preventing COVID19 transmission in community is currently important. As one of villages located close to Bali’s tourism centre, Bukian village is expected to be more vigilant in preventing the spread of COVID19. However, the public knowledge about COVID19 was low, the people was careless with pandemic situation, and public socialization was limited, making the effort in preventing the transmission of the disease at that time had not run optimally. This community empowerment activities lasted for 1 month in the form of providing education with online methods and intensive mentoring of one student, one participant, targeting families and members of the COVID19 task force, with a sum of 10 students and 10 participants. All activities went well and enthusiasm of participants was quite good. Pre-test and post-test questionnaires were given to evaluate the increase in the knowledge and attitudes of the participants, then analyzed by wilcoxon test and there was a significant increase in knowledge and attitude of participants (p value <0,05).

Pemindangan merupakan salah satu upaya pengawetan ikan tradisional dengan metode perebusan dan penggaraman yang banyak dilakukan oleh masyarakat Indonesia, khususnya di Bali. Limbah perikanan terutamanya limbah cair yang dibuang ke sungai dapat menyebabkan pencemaran atau gangguan lingkungan, seperti mengganggu ekosistem air, menurunkan kadar oxygen demand pada lingkungan perairan, mengganggu kesehatan manusia, serta menimbulkan bau yang tidak sedap. Eco enzyme merupakan larutan zat organik kompleks yang diproduksi dari proses fermentasi sampah organic, gula, dan air. Studi ini merupakan studi kajian pustaka untuk melihat potensi penggunaan eco enzyme sebagai alternatif tata laksana kimiawi terhadap limbah perikananan, khususnya pemindangan. Sebagai larutan fermentasi organik, eco enzyme dapat diartikan sebagai salah satu komponen aditif kimiawi pada komponen sistem tata laksana limbah, seperti halnya desinfektan. Desinfektan tidak selalu membunuh mikroorganisme karena terdapat beberapa mikroorganisme yang resistant. Desinfektan yang biasa digunakan berasal dari bahan baku kimiawi yang pada dasarnya fungsinya adalah untuk membersihkan area yang mentransmisikan mikroorganisme. Dalam hal ini penggunaan eco enzyme sebagai desinfektan juga dapat menjadi satu langkah pengurangan penggunaan bahan kimia dengan beralih kembali pada bahan alami. Eco enzyme memiliki potensi sebagai alternatif tata laksana kimiawi dengan menurunkan kadar TSS, TDS, pH, BOD, COD, dan ammonia pada limbah, termasuk limbah hasil perikanan. Perlu penelitian lebih lanjut untuk dapat memastikan pengaruh eco enzyme terhadap limbah pemindangan.

Like as the fish processing industry in general, the traditional processing industry also has a significant environmental impact. This community service was aimed to provide counselling related to environmental health management to a group of “pemindang” at central “pemindangan” industry Kusamba. The material provided is in the form of the benefit and importance of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in fish processing, especially pindang, demonstration and exercise of 7 steps of hand washing, socialization on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and eco enzyme based on orange peel waste, and provision in providing garbage containers to improve environmental sanitation in the area of “pemindangan”. The participants had high enthusiasm in following the activities and from 10 participants who took the posttest, all of participants received score > 70. This empowerment activities are expected to be able to increase the knowledge of the group of “pemindang” on the importance of environmental health for fish processing industry, including “pemindangan” industry.
