This research was to analyze the process of spelling adjustment of naturalization applied in translation of English accounting terms into Indonesian. The objective of the study was to find out the Process of spelling adjustment of naturalization were used by accounting terms. This research used a descriptive and qualitative method. The data of this study were words containing naturalization were taken from the translation of selected articles of accounting textbook, Accounting 21e (2008). The data were collected through documentary technique. The data analysis was concerned of the implementation of spelling adjustment of naturalization. The findings show that naturalization in English-Indonesian accounting terms occurred in three categories, namely grapheme, and syllabic adapatation (double consonant become single consonant and consonant inhibitory. The products of naturalization have followed the guidance yet several new adjustment standards need to be included to enrich the pattern of foreign term adoption. In addition, this study recommends that proess of absorption in the Indonesian guidance of term formation needs to be revisited in order to precisely classify how foreign terms spelling adjustment is made in the Indonesian language Keywords: Naturalization, Translation Procedure, Accounting Terms, Spelling Adjustment

This study focuses specifically on investigating the maintenance of Bahasa Aceh by Acehnese teenagers in keude kupi in Medan. It employs qualitative research method and applies a case study design. The subjects were ten Acehnese Teenagers in keude kupi in Medan. The instruments used for this study were observation, interview and document gathering. The observation was applied to get the data about the language they used in the keude kupi. The interview was applied to get the data for answering the three questions of this study; factors affecting Bahasa Aceh maintenance, the manners done by the teenagers and the reasons for maintaining the language in keude kupi. While the documentation needed to give a visual data about the subjects and site of the study. The data were analysed by using Ethnography Method, proposed by Spradley. It has been found that there were some factors lead to the maintenance of Bahasa Aceh, they are: language attitude, parents’ role, environment, visiting homeland continuously and intra-marriage. The maintenance of Bahasa Aceh was done by keep using it to other Acehnese, read the Acehnese online or printed media, and watch or listen to the Acehnese entertainment. In maintaining their mother language, the teenagers’ reasons were not only about showing their identity, help their community to progress and achieving self-esteem and/or self-pride, but also to create the feel-like-home situation, since using the language with the same Acehnese peers makes them feel closer and bound.Keywords: Language Maintenance, Bahasa Aceh, Teenagers, Keude Kupi

In today’s world, shopping on Instagram is quickly becoming the preferred way for consumers to not only learn about new brands and products on Instagram, but also purchase them in just a few simple steps.One of the top issues of online shopping is its security concerns.Online shopping fraud is one of a cybercrime which often occurs lately. Fraudsters usually manipulate their victims through their language used. In order to manipulate their victim, a fraud should be able to use the speech function or linguistic function in the proper context of conversation to build trust of their victim. This study was aimed at investigating the speech function used by online shopping frauds on Instagram. This research was conducted in a qualitative research. The data were clauses consist of speech functions used by online shopping frauds on instagram. Five chats of online shopping fraudsters with their victims taken from Indonesia Online Shop Blacklist has taken as data sources by using purposive sampling. In order to identify the types of speech functions used by the fraudster, Halliday’s theory of Interpersonal Function was used. The findings showed that the types of speech functions found used by online shopping frauds in instagram are statement, question, command, and minor. In which statement is more often used by fraudster in instagram, followed by command, question and minor. It indicates that the fraudster use statement for giving information about the product which they sell, they also tend to use statement to answer the questions from the consumer about their product, delivery process, payment method, etc.Keywords: Speech Functions, Fraudster, Instagram, Online Shopping, Discourse

Learning English is so important today in this era globalization and modern since English is an International Language. Nowadays, students are required to be able to understand and get to know English further, this is evidenced by the existence of English lesson in every school, from kindergarten to Senior High School. Because of the development of education, many of National schools adopt two language systems in teaching, namely bilingual language. In Teaching English, especially narrative text, it is quite difficult, especially if we learnt seventh grade students whose age about eleven until twelve years old, as we know that, the age of 11 – 12 years old usually have a very high level of boredom, especially they learnt about text. As the teacher, we have to reduce their boredom and make the class more interactive. On the Interactive class, The students do not only listen or read a text from the textbook but also must be answer the question based on the text. From this observation, the writer want to compare about how if the technology nowadays will be combined in Teaching and Learning Process. This journal discusses about to find out whether the students’ interest in writing narrative taught by using text book is significantly higher than that taught by animated . The students would learn how to produce a narrative text (fable) by using textbook and watching in Video. From this observation, the writer found that using You Tube as a visual media is more effective in teaching narrative than using text book as a printed media in teaching media for seventh grade students, the class is more interactive by using a You Tube, it means that students can learn English especially how to speak fluently through the characters in the Video, and the teacher can be easier in providing an understanding of the meaning related on narrative text. The objective of this study is to explain the reason of utilizing modality in Teaching Learning Process. The research methodology used in the research is qualitative research design. The data were analyzed by applying the theory of Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The findings of this study revealed that the reasons of the teacher applied the modality to give the instruction during teaching learning process and to show the power of the teacher in managing the class and to encourage the students to give feedbacks or responses to the teacher. This study deals with euphemism of surah Al-Baqarah in the Holy Qur’an. It was aimed for investigating the types of euphemism used in surah Al-Baqarah, to describe realization of euphemistic expressions in surah Al-Baqarah, and to elaborate the reasons for realization of euphemism in surah Al-Baqarah. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The data analyzed were sentence to sentence which contained euphemism. The source of the data was taken from Tafseer Ibn Kathir Vol 1-10 in the English language with Arabic verses. The researcher is the key instrument of the research. The result showed that there were 29 verses that contained of euphemism of surah Al-Baqarah. It divided into four concepts found in surah Al-Baqarah and one concept as new finding found in surah Al-Baqarah. Specifically, 1 (4%) for Shortening, 7 (23%) for Remodelling, 17 (59%) for Semantic change, 2 (7%) for Borrowing, and 2 (7%) for narrowing as new finding. The dominant types of euphemism of surah Al-Baqarah was Semantic change. It means that Muslim have to understanding and comprehending the meaning deeply. The ways of euphemism realized in surah Al-Baqarah, namely direct, indirect, implicit, and explicit. The reason euphemism realized in surah Al-Baqarah to soften a vulgar expression. In certain social contexts, they are used to avoid embarrassment and the direct mention of social taboos. In other situations, they are used to give more importance and a higher status to certain individuals and events.Keyword: Euphemism, Taboo, Surah Al-Baqarah

The objectives of this study were to describe the translation quality in Bound novel. This study followed the theory of Nababan et.al (2012) about the three aspects of translation quality namely (1) accuracy; (2) acceptability; and (3) readability. This research uses descriptive qualitative method as the research design. The data of this study were gathered by using the documents and questionnaire by the raters. The results analysis from the raters showed that translation quality in Bound novel were less accurate with the average points around 2.75, acceptable with the average points around 2.92 and readable with the average points around 3.0. The objectives of this research are to find out whether: 1) The students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using the Directed Reading Thinking Aactivity (DRTA) strategy was higher than taught by using the Questions-Answer Relationship (QARs) strategy. 2) The students’ achievement in reading comprehension with high curiosity was higher than that The students with low curiosity, and 3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and curiosity on The students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The population of this research was the students in grade XI of MAN Kampung (MAN KP) Teungoh Langsa in 2016/2017 school year. The total number of population of this research was 160 students. There were 6 classes. Two classes were chosen consist of 30 students of each class so 60 students were selected as sample of this research by applying multistage cluster random sampling. The research design was experimental research by using factorial design 2x2. The XI IPA2 class was taught by using Directed Reading Thinking Activity and XI IAI was taught by using Questions-Answer Relationship (QARs) Strategy. Curiosity questionnaire was conducted for classifying the students upon the high and low curiosity. Students’ achievement in reading comprehension was measured by using reading comprehension test. The data were analyzed by applying two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at the level of significant. The results of the data analysis proved that: 1) The students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy is higher than students achievement in reading comprehension taught by Questions-Answer Relationship(QARs) Teaching strategy. 3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and curiosity on students’ achievement in reading comprehension.Keywords: Curiosity; Comprehension; Achievement; Teaching Strategies

This study is based on the fact that the readers get words emotion after reading the tweets of covid-19 news. Various emotions found on the tweets of twitter relate to the Covid-19 news. Some of them make the readers being fear or sad of this pandemic. This study deals with semantic emotion of covid-19 news in twitter account of CNN Breaking News. The objectives of the study is to investigate how the semantic emotions realized in Covid-19 news. The study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative. The data of this study were words from tweets which contain semantic emotion of Covid-19 news in twitter. The sources of data in this study were Covid-19 news in twitter, after vaccine Covid-19 distributed since beginning of January 2021. It was found that emotions were realized in covid-19 news, namely: basic emotion, emotional relations, caused emotions, causative, emotional goals, and complex emotions. Contrary with the expectation, happiness was the dominant emotion found in covid-19 news on twitter. Happiness is an emotion to show pleasant, while covid-19 in unpleasant situation. But in this research, it was found that happiness had a high frequency.Keywords: Semantic Emotion, Covid-19, Twitter, Vaccine

Speech Function of Anies Baswedan in His Governor Inaugural Ceremony Ahmad Rifa'i Ritonga; Sumarsih . .; Anni Holila Pulungan

ABSTRACTLanguage forms a dialogue that becomes a very important matter in communicating. Dialogue is related with speech function. Halliday (1994) suggests that dialogue is a process of exchange involving two variables; those are: (1) a commodity to be exchanged; either information or good and service and (2) roles associated with exchange relations; either giving or demanding. Halliday (1994) states that there are four basic types of speech functions; those are: offer, statement, command, and question. This study tries to analyze the speech function of used by Anies Baswedan in his speech when he was ceremonially approved the governor of Jakarta in the Period of 2017-2022. Based on the data analysis, it was got that there are 75 independent clauses of which speech functions are statement, and there are 7 independent clauses of which speech functions are command. The speech functions of statement are in marked and unmarked mood, while the command ones are in unmarked mood. The types of speech function found in the speech are correlated with the function found in the speech are correlated with the function and the goal of the speech.
