Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the transition of the United States government from the Biden administration to Trump 2.0, with a focus on the dynamics of US-China relations and the sustainability of the America First policy. Using the Foreign Policy Change theory, this study examines the paradigm shift in US foreign policy from the Democratic Party leadership in the Biden-Harris era to the Republican Party approach under Trump, particularly in the areas of economic, trade, and security policies. Drawing on Charles Hermann's foreign policy change model and Graham Allison's bureaucratic politics approach, this study examines how the administration transition influences the direction of strategic relations between the two world powers. The research findings show that Trump's return has the potential to strengthen the direction of unilateralism and strategic rivalry towards China, but at the same time opens up the possibility of forming a new order in international relations. This study provides theoretical contributions to the study of foreign policy change as well as practical implications for policymakers and diplomatic actors in responding to the direction of US foreign policy during the Trump 2.0 administration. Abstract

This study examines the impact of translation strategies, including procedures, methods, and ideologies, on the quality of the rhymed children’s story “Can You Count the Stars”? (2019) translated from English into Indonesian. It aims to determine how the implementation of these strategies affects the translation quality. To address the challenges inherent in translating rhyme, such as preserving rhyme patterns, meaning, and ensuring cultural relevance. Both translators applied procedures such as modulation of perspective and meaning scope, addition, omission, and the translation of figurative language. In addition, the communicative method and a domestication ideology were applied to facilitate comprehension among child readers. The analysis shows that the translation by Respondent 1 (TSa1) demonstrates higher quality than that of Respondent 2 (TSa2), particularly in preserving rhyme patterns and delivering the message, whereas TSa2 loses some poetic nuances. Among the procedures, addition was found to be the most effective in enhancing translation quality by enriching the text without distorting the message. This study concludes that the careful selection and application of translation strategies play a critical role in balancing rhyme, meaning, and cultural context in rhymed children’s literature and support previous research on the significance of strategy selection in achieving quality translations.

Abstract

This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design aimed at obtaining an in-depth understanding of the utilization of illustrated visual media in early childhood literacy activities. The research subjects were children enrolled in one of the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions. This approach was selected to comprehensively describe the naturally occurring learning process and to capture children's responses during the implementation of literacy activities. Data were collected through participatory observation and documentation techniques. Observation was conducted to directly examine children’s engagement, learning interactions, and the implementation of illustrated visual media in the literacy process. Documentation served as supporting data, including activity records, children’s work, and relevant instructional archives. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, systematic data display, and conclusion drawing to generate meaningful findings. The findings revealed that the use of illustrated visual media in literacy activities made a positive contribution to enhancing children’s engagement and active participation during the learning process. The media effectively captured children’s attention, stimulated their interest in learning, and facilitated their understanding of the Islamic values conveyed. Therefore, the use of illustrated visual media can be considered an effective instructional strategy to support literacy development as well as the internalization of values in early childhood education.

Abstract

Differences in the application of legal provisions to cases involving consensual sexual intercourse between minors continue to reveal disparities in judges' ratio decidendi, even where the cases share substantially similar factual characteristics. Such disparities may undermine legal certainty and affect the effectiveness of legal protection afforded to children, both as victims and as offenders, within Indonesia's juvenile criminal justice system. This study aims to analyze the differences in the ratio decidendi adopted by judges in Decision No. 27/Pid.Sus-Anak/2023/PN Smr and Decision No. 4/Pid.Sus-Anak/2024/PN Kdr and to examine their implications for child legal protection in Indonesia. This research employs a normative legal method using statutory, case, and conceptual approaches. The analysis is conducted qualitatively by examining legislation, legal doctrines, and the two court decisions through legal interpretation and comparative analysis of the judges' ratio decidendi. The findings demonstrate that the differences in judicial reasoning are primarily influenced by the legal construction of the facts and the judges' interpretation of the concept of a child's consent. In Decision No. 27/Pid.Sus-Anak/2023/PN Smr, the court applied Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes because the victim was unconscious due to alcohol intoxication and was therefore considered incapable of providing valid consent. Conversely, in Decision No. 4/Pid.Sus-Anak/2024/PN Kdr, the court relied on the Child Protection Law, reasoning that the victim's status as a minor legally invalidated any purported consent, notwithstanding the consensual nature of the relationship. The novelty of this study lies in its comparative analysis of the ratio decidendi employed in two judicial decisions involving highly comparable factual circumstances but resulting in different legal frameworks and judicial reasoning. The study concludes that harmonized judicial interpretative guidelines are necessary to ensure greater consistency in court decisions, strengthen legal certainty, and enhance the effectiveness of child protection in accordance with the principle of the best interests of the child.Keywords: Ratio decidendi; Child Protection; Consensual Sexual Intercourse Involving Minors; Sexual Violence Crimes; Juvenile Criminal Justice System

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital financial technology has encouraged the widespread adoption of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services, commonly known as PayLater, particularly among Generation Z university students. This study aims to examine the relationship between the use of PayLater and the level of monthly spending among Generation Z university students. A quantitative correlational approach was applied, with primary data collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Form to students who had experience using PayLater services, using a purposive sampling technique. Of the 124 questionnaires collected, 113 were declared valid for analysis after data cleaning. The research instrument, consisting of 20 statement items across both variables, was tested for validity using Pearson Product Moment correlation and for reliability using Cronbach's Alpha, and was found to be valid and highly reliable (Cronbach's Alpha of 0.972 for the PayLater Use variable and 0.966 for the Student Spending Level variable). Classical assumption tests confirmed that the linearity and homoscedasticity assumptions were met, although the normality assumption was not fully satisfied; the analysis was nevertheless considered robust given the sufficiently large sample size (N = 113), in line with the Central Limit Theorem. The Pearson correlation test revealed a very strong, positive, and significant relationship between PayLater use and student spending level (r = 0.889; p < 0.001). Simple linear regression analysis produced the equation Y = 3.538 + 0.885X, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.790, indicating that PayLater use explains 79.0% of the variation in student spending, while the remaining 21.0% is explained by other factors outside the model, such as financial literacy and selfcontrol. These findings confirm that the higher the intensity of PayLater use, the higher the monthly spending reported by Generation Z students, underlining the urgent need for stronger digital financial literacy education among young consumers.
