Abstract

This study aimed to show that the probiotic Lactobacillus sp. could increase production performance (feed consumption, feed conversion, feed efficiency, body weight gain and body weight) and the contribution margin value in broiler chickens infected with Escherichia coli. This experimental study utilized a completely randomized design and involved 40 male broilers. The broilers were infected with Escherichia coli at the age of 21 days, and the study lasted for 35 days. The study consisted of 4 treatment groups, with 10 chickens in each group. The treatment groups were as follows: P0 (negative control; no feed additive; no E. coli infection), P1 (positive control; no feed additive; E. coli infection), P2 (AGP (zinc bacitracin) added at 1 g/kg mixed through commercial feed; no probiotic Lactobacillus sp.; E. coli infection), and P3 (commercial feed no AGP; probiotic Lactobacillus sp. added at 5 mL/L through drinking water; E. coli infection). The data were analysed via a general linear model (repeated measures) test of ANOVA followed by Duncan's multiple distance test. The results revealed significant differences (p<0,05) in production performance, including feed efficiency and final body weight. The highest contribution margin value shown by the P3 treatment group (administering probiotic Lactobacillus sp. in drinking water) was IDR 81,570, and the lowest value shown by the P2 treatment group (administering AGP to feed) was IDR 35,468. In conclusion, the addition of the probiotic Lactobacillus sp. at a concentration of 5 mL/L through drinking water improved production performance and increased the contribution margin value in broilers infected with E. coli.

Abstract

This study aimed to provide the impact of acidifier supplementation on feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), feed efficiency, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) in broiler chickens infected with Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). The use of acidifiers is proposed as a potential solution to improve gut health and nutrient absorption. This study employed a completely randomized design (CRD). Forty broiler chickens, ages 1 to 35, were utilized in this study, and the treatment started at 8 days of age. There were 5 treatments and 4 replications for each treatment, with 2 broiler chicks in each replication. The treatments consisted of negative control, without APEC infection (P0), positive control, with APEC infection (P1), infected with APEC with 0.1% of Antibiotic Growth Promoters in the diet (P2), and infected with APEC with additional feed acidifier 0.5% (P3). This study analyzed its effect on feed consumption, Body Weight Gain (BWG), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and feed efficiency. Also, the business analysis was carried out by calculating the contribution margin (CM). Data was statistically analyzed using one way-analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's multiple range test to determine any statistical differences (p<0.05). The research results show that adding an acidifier to the diet does not reduce the feed consumption value but can increase BWG, reduce the FCR value (p<0.05), improve feed efficiency, and increase the contribution margin in broiler chicken farming. It concludes that adding 0.5% acidifier to the feed can improve broiler chickens infected with APEC production performance.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effects of laser acupuncture on jejunum morphometry and the differential leucocyte responses in rabbits. Twenty-four Hycole rabbits, aged four to twelve weeks with an average weight of 1046 g, were administered laser acupuncture once a week for six weeks. The rabbits were housed in individual cages and randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 (control) received inactive laser acupuncture for predetermined acupuncture points (Bladder 13, Bladder 15, and Bladder 21). Group 2 received active laser acupuncture at the exact points BL 13, BL 15, and BL 21, using a laser dose of 0.2 Joules. Group 3 received laser acupuncture near, but not precisely at, these exact points. Blood samples were collected at the end of the 12th week, and the jejunum was excised for histomorphometric analysis. The results indicated that rabbits in group 2 had significant increases (P0.05) in villus height (VH), and villus width (VW) compared to groups 1 and 3. The results of differential leucocytes measurements in groups 1, 2, and 3 were lymphocytes 64.2037%, 61.80.374%, 61.80.489% (normal: 30-85%); monocytes 130.447%, 12.20.374%, and 13.40.244% (normal: 4-13.4%), granulocytes 23.40.748%, 260.447%, and 24.80.374 (normal: 21-73%), respectively. These findings indicate that laser acupuncture targeted at BL13, BL15, and BL21 points promotes villi development and maintains differential leukocyte parameters within the normal range.
