Abstract

Background: The coverage of COVID-19 vaccination for children in Pati Regency was still low at 37% in February 2022 compared to the 75% target. Some preliminary studies in Kudus showed that parents who received socialization about children's COVID-19 vaccination experienced concerns affecting their responses negatively to the program. Aims: This study aims to analyze differences in parental acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccination for children in Pati Regency. Methods: This study was quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The variables consisted of 7Cs components (Confidence, Complacency, Constraints, Calculation, Collective Responsibility, Compliance, Conspiracy) and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. The total sample of respondents was 372 parents divided into two independent groups obtained by cluster and proportional sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire via Google Forms and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results showed differences in parental acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination (sig = 0.006) regarding constraints (sig = 0.000), collective responsibility (sig = 0.012), compliance (sig = 0.012), confidence (sig = 0.019), complacency (sig = 0.020), calculation (sig = 0.027), and conspiracy (sig = 0.037). Conclusion: Some differences were found between parents whose children received the vaccine and those whose children did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Parents whose children received the COVID-19 vaccine were likely to have a good perception of the COVID-19 vaccination. Meanwhile, parents whose children did not get vaccinated would likely have a bad perception. Educational and consulting services possibly increase vaccination coverage. Keywords: COVID-19 vaccination for children; different acceptance; 7Cs components

Abstract

Abstract

To prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic, the government establishes a policy of new normal adaptation by implementing health protocols in daily life. However, the community should be active in implementing new normal adaptation. Forum Kesehatan Kelurahan (FKK) as a forum for community participation in the health sector has an important role in the success of supporting health programs at the village level. Based on research studies, the application of new normal adaptation in Tembalang District by the community hasn’t been optimal. Therefore, the role of FKK in Tembalang District has to adapt new normal from the family. The ability and knowledge of FKK cadres regarding adaptation of new normal must be good in order to have sufficient capacity to support new normal families in Tembalang District. In this case, the capacity building of the FKK carried out through activities to 38 FKK cadres representing each sub-district in Tembalang District. Counseling done by doing pre-test, presenting materials, discussions with participants, and ended by post-test. The results of discussion, the community had made efforts to support the implementation of the new normal, there are education, field operations, reporting of COVID-19 cases, and jogo tonggo. Challenges for FKK are community’s lack awareness of COVID-19 pandemic and health protocols impportance. Post-test result showed increasing number of cadre with good knowledge about New Normal. In this activity, participants were also given a booklet. The capacity of FKK cadres to mobilize community will be stronger that hopefully can contribute more efforts to support the adaptation of new normal in the family and be able to solve challenges well.

Abstract

Immunization has been proven to be cost-effective and globally successful in reducing child deaths from infectious diseases. However, the many types of vaccines that must be given to each child in one visit make this practice controversial because they are considered unsafe. The study aims to analyze behavioral determinants of multiple injection immunization practices in rural areas. This is analytical research with a quantitative and cross-sectional approach. The population consists of all children aged 9-12 months in Kendal Regency with a sample of 407 children. Respondents were parents/caregivers selected from 30 PHC. Data were collected by interview using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Immunization practices are assessed through the Maternal and Child Health-Book. Immunization practice with multiple injections is partially related to education, knowledge, perception (susceptibility, severity, side effects, benefits), self-efficacy, and support (family, health workers, community, informational, and policy). Simultaneously, it is known that health worker support has the most dominant influence, followed by informational support, knowledge, perceived severity, and perceived susceptibility. Efforts are needed to increase health workers' competency in reducing the pain of children due to vaccination, as well as providing education to parents/caregivers effectively through clear communication, reducing misinformation and misperceptions, especially for rural communities.
