Abstract

Social studies education as a science combines a number of selected concepts from branches of social science and other sciences. Students are less motivated in learning history. This condition arises because the variation in historical learning is still lacking because teachers only use traditional methods that place the teacher as the center of information. The Quizizz media-assisted STAD model has the potential to overcome the problems of motivation and student learning outcomes at Trimurti High School. The study was conducted to determine the effect of the STAD (Student Team Achivement Division) learning model assisted by the Quizizz media on motivation and learning outcomes in Indonesian History subjects class XI at Trimurti High School Surabaya. This research is an experimental study using pretest-posttest control group design. The treatment in the experimental class was the application of the STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) learning model assisted by the Quizizz media and the direct learning model (MPL) applied to the control class also assisted by the Quizizz media. T test shows the value of sig 0.03 <0.05, so there are differences in the value of the motivation of students in the control class with the experimental class. T test shows the value of sig 0.002 < 0.05, so there are differences in the value of student learning outcomes in the control class with the experimental class.

Abstract

Integrating local wisdom into education systems is crucial for preserving cultural identity and enhancing educational quality in the modern era. Madura Island possesses traditional values potentially applicable to pedagogical project management. However, the effective utilization of these values in contemporary pedagogical project management remains poorly understood. Existing research predominantly focuses on specific aspects of the curriculum or teaching methods, such as integrating cultural values into learning materials, employing local wisdom-based teaching methods, and adopting learning approaches contextual to Madurese culture. Still, there is a noticeable gap in the literature regarding how Madurese local wisdom values can be systematically operationalized in education project management, including planning processes that involve local stakeholders, implementation that respects local customs, and evaluation methods rooted in local values. To explore how Madurese cultural values can be effectively utilized in pedagogical project management to create a more in-depth and contextually relevant approach, this study employed a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design. The first phase involved a quantitative survey of 230 education stakeholders in Madura using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The second phase included in-depth interviews and participatory observations in five schools, analyzed using NVivo 14. SEM results revealed a significant positive relationship between the integration of Madurese local wisdom values and pedagogical project management effectiveness. Qualitative analysis showed these values strengthen decision-making structures and community commitment to educational projects. This research demonstrates that incorporating Madurese local wisdom values can enhance pedagogical project management effectiveness, making an important contribution to developing a contextualized and sustainable pedagogical project management model. This model has potential applications across various cultural contexts in Indonesia and globally. By adopting this model, education in Madura is expected to be not only more effective but also rich with local cultural values, creating a deep and meaningful learning experience for students.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Udeng Pacul Gowang, a traditional headgear from Sidoarjo, Indonesia, into elementary mathematics education through an ethnomathematics approach. The purpose of this research is to explore the cultural and historical significance of Udeng Pacul Gowang, analyze its aesthetic design crafted by local artisans, and utilize it as a meaningful learning resource to enhance students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the study gathered data through in-depth interviews with 12 local artisans and 8 elementary school educators, direct observations of the production process, and documentation review conducted over a three-month period from March to May 2025. The results indicate that Udeng Pacul Gowang incorporates various geometric shapes such as triangles, circles, and symmetrical patterns, which correspond to mathematical concepts including geometry, similarity, and measurement. Specifically, students were able to identify at least four types of geometric forms and apply measurement concepts through hands-on activities with the headgear. These cultural elements provide a contextualized and tangible learning experience that helps students relate abstract mathematical ideas to their everyday environment. Additionally, integrating Udeng Pacul Gowang in the learning process promotes students’ cultural pride and appreciation for their local heritage, which positively impacts their motivation and engagement in mathematics. The study highlights the potential of culturally responsive teaching to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and cultural identity, encouraging the development of a more holistic learning approach. Despite the limited formal curriculum incorporation of ethnomathematics, this research emphasizes the role of educators in innovating teaching strategies by embedding local cultural artifacts in classroom activities. This approach not only enriches the mathematics curriculum but also supports the preservation of local culture among younger generations. The findings suggest that Udeng Pacul Gowang can serve as an effective educational tool to foster both mathematical proficiency and cultural awareness in elementary schools.
