Local wisdom can be used as an appropriate alternative instrument in strengthening character education because the values of local wisdom can be a filter of foreign culture that does not fit into the nation's personality. One effort to strengthen character in learning is to provide teaching materials that lead to changes in student character. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching materials based on local wisdom. This research design applies the 4-D (four D Models) development model developed by Thiagarajan. The data collection stage uses documentation, expert validation, questionnaires, and non-pretest posttest instruments. The feasibility of teaching materials based on local wisdom shows a percentage of 93% with very decent information. The results of student and teacher questionnaires showed 89.8% with very practical information. The results of the improvement of student character are evidenced by the comparison of the results of the experimental class posttes with the control class. Based on the Independent Samples T-Test on the religious aspect it is known that the value of tcount = 6.675> ttable = 0.000, the independent aspect is known the value of tcount = 6.298> ttable = 0.000, the aspect of mutual cooperation data is known the tcount value = 5.112> ttable = 0.000. This shows that there is a difference between the dick class and the experimental class then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that the teaching materials based on local wisdom of Kampung Nambangan as a source of character education that has been developed are declared to be appropriate, practical, and effective in improving student character. Keywords: Teaching Materials, Local Wisdom, Character Education

Abstract

Abstract

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in elementary schools has become a vital approach to enhancing students' holistic development, particularly within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to identify the implementation strategies, outcomes, and key factors of successful SEL programs in elementary education. Using a systematic literature review of 20 selected articles out of 157, and following the PRISMA method, this study explores patterns and themes related to SEL integration. The findings reveal that SEL is effectively integrated across various subjects and supported by the development of specific SEL-based learning models. Teachers play a central role in the implementation process. The review highlights significant improvements in students’ self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness, along with academic achievements and reductions in negative behaviors. However, few studies reported specific quantitative outcomes, although one study noted a 15% increase in classroom engagement following SEL-based instruction. This study recommends strengthening supportive education policies, offering continuous professional development for teachers, and developing reliable assessment tools to measure SEL competencies effectively.

Abstract

Diagnostic assessment plays a crucial role in the learning process, particularly in identifying students' prior knowledge and learning needs before instruction begins. This study aims to analyze the implementation of diagnostic assessment in the IPAS (Science and Social Studies) subject for fourth-grade elementary school students. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to examine how diagnostic assessments are conducted and their impact on student learning outcomes. Data were collected through classroom observations and student performance analysis. The results indicate that diagnostic assessments help teachers design more effective learning strategies tailored to students’ abilities. However, some teachers do not fully implement diagnostic assessments, leading to disparities in students’ understanding of the material. The findings emphasize the need for proper training and structured implementation of diagnostic assessments to enhance students’ critical thinking skills and improve overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

Language conservation is a vital part of preserving cultural identity, particularly within diaspora communities living in multicultural environments. This study aims to describe the strategies for conserving the Indonesian language implemented at the Indonesian School of Davao (Sekolah Indonesia Davao/SID), Philippines, and to examine the perspectives, expectations, and beliefs of stakeholders regarding language preservation as an element of national identity. The research also explores the gap between the ideal definition of language conservation and the actual use of the Indonesian language in the daily lives of the diaspora community, especially within the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Davao City and SID. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study method. Informants were selected purposively, including the deputy head of curriculum, deputy head of student affairs, dormitory supervisors, Indonesian language teachers, students, and staff from the Socio-Cultural Affairs Division (Pensosbud) of KJRI Davao City. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that language conservation at SID is carried out through curricular, regulatory, and cultural strategies, supported by the KJRI through the Basic Indonesian Knowledge Course (Kursus Pengetahuan Dasar Indonesia/KPDI). However, there is a noticeable gap between the ideal program and actual practice, as Indonesian is not yet fully used in the informal domains of the community. This study recommends the need for more contextual strategies and the development of culturally responsive learning materials based on the diaspora experience to support sustainable language preservation.
