Abstract

The problem addressed in this study stems from the low early numeracy skills of children aged 5–6 years at TK Perwari 1, Tasikmalaya City. Initial observations revealed that the children struggled to understand basic number concepts, simple arithmetic operations, and object classification based on quantity and color. Learning activities focused primarily on lecture-based methods and the use of worksheets (LKA), which proved less effective in stimulating children’s cognitive development, particularly in early numeracy. This research aims to improve children’s early numeracy skills through the use of the Turtle Sorting Color media a concrete learning tool made from plywood decorated with turtle images, where each turtle’s shell is crafted from used plastic bottles serving as containers for colorful pom-poms. Each turtle is labeled with a number to guide children in grouping pom-poms by color and quantity. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented over two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 15 children from group B at TK Perwari 1. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and field notes, analyzed through descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. Findings revealed a significant improvement in children's early numeracy skills. The average achievement increased from 36.25% in the pre-cycle, to 64.59% in the first cycle, and reached 88.33% in the second cycle. Children became more active, focused, and capable of understanding early numeracy concepts in a concrete and enjoyable manner. This study concludes that the Turtle Sorting Color media is effective as a learning aid to enhance early numeracy skills in children aged 5–6 years. The media offers an innovative alternative aligned with play-based learning approaches in early childhood education

Abstract

This study aimed to stimulate the letter recognition skills of children aged 5–6 years through the use of an alphabet board at RA Al-Ishlah, Tasikmalaya City. The background of this research stemmed from the low ability of children in recognizing letters, including letter symbols, sounds, and shapes. Moreover, the predominance of lecture-based methods and the lack of engaging learning media made children easily bored and less motivated to learn letters. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design using the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, and it was conducted in two cycles. The subjects consisted of 13 students from group B1, including 5 boys and 8 girls. Data collection instruments included observation, field notes, and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement in the children’s letter recognition skills through the use of the alphabet board. This improvement was evidenced by the increase in average scores and learning mastery percentages from the pre-cycle to the second cycle. The percentage of children in the pre-cycle reached 32.69%, in cycle I, the percentage increased to 56.25%, and in cycle II, it reached 87.19%. The alphabet board proved effective as it combined learning and play activities, which made children more enthusiastic and motivated in recognizing letters. This study offered practical contributions to early childhood education, particularly in the application of fun and educational media to enhance children's language development

Abstract

To truly understand Arabic and its intricacies, effective and efficient Arabic language learning is necessary. To achieve effective and efficient Arabic learning, careful planning in the form of a curriculum is required. In teaching Arabic language, the curriculum is developed based on certain foundations. The purpose of this paper is to describe the foundations in designing an Arabic language curriculum. This paper focuses solely on the sociological, psychological, scientific, and technological foundations. This study uses qualitative data, which is presented in verbal form rather than in numbers. Data was collected using the literature review technique, namely by studying theories from various relevant sources. After collecting the data, it is presented in the discussion section. The findings of this paper reveal that there are many fundamental aspects to consider before designing an Arabic language curriculum. However, this paper specifically discusses the sociological, psychological, scientific, and technological aspects. The sociological aspect ensures that the curriculum is relevant to social needs. The psychological aspect helps in understanding the mental and emotional development of learners, so that Arabic teaching methods can be adapted to their age, interests, and abilities. Science serves as the foundation for selecting theories that support language skills, while technology facilitates the learning process. These aspects complement each other to create an effective and innovative Arabic language curriculum, so that Arabic learning is not only theoretical but also practical and contextual.

Abstract

Symbolic thinking is a crucial ability in the cognitive development of early childhood, particularly in the 4–5-year age range. At this stage, children begin to recognize and use symbols such as numbers and letters in their daily activities. This study aims to describe the role of play-based media in stimulating the development of symbolic thinking in early childhood. The research was conducted at RA ABC in Tasikmalaya City using a descriptive qualitative approach through observation of children's play activities, interviews with teachers, and documentation of the learning process. The research subjects consisted of 12 children from Group A and two classroom teachers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results show that play media designed in an engaging and developmentally appropriate manner can effectively facilitate the gradual understanding of symbols. The children not only recognized the forms of symbols but also began to associate them with meaning or function within the context of play. These findings support Piaget's concept of symbolic representation and expand its application in early childhood education settings. The novelty of this study lies in the design of the symbol media, which integrates elements of numeracy and literacy into a unified play experience. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of developing a play-based early childhood curriculum, providing innovative and accessible media for teachers, and enhancing teacher capacity in facilitating symbolic learning in a joyful and meaningful way

Abstract

Expressive language skills are an important aspect in early childhood development because they play a role in conveying ideas, feelings, and experiences verbally. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of two children in group B at Aisyiyah 2 Kindergarten in Tasikmalaya, the class teacher, and the principal as supporting informants. The results showed that children have varied language development, ranging from passive to being able to construct coherent sentences. The modeling strategies used by teachers include providing verbal examples, facial expressions, gestures, and are adaptive to the child's characteristics and have proven effective in increasing speaking courage and sentence construction skills. Modeling-based scaffolding is an effective strategy in helping early childhood develop expressive language in a gradual, contextual, and meaningful manner. This study strengthens Vygotsky's theory of scaffolding and Bandura's social learning theory through the role of modeling in children's language development. Early childhood teachers are advised to use a modeling approach in daily interactions as a language stimulation strategy that is adaptive and responsive to characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of ice breaking wire game activities on the concentration of early childhood learning. This study is based on the low level of children's concentration in the learning process which causes them to be easily distracted and have difficulty in completing tasks. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a sample of 8 people in group B at Al-Bayyinah Kindergarten as the control class and 8 people in group B at Al-Barokah Kindergarten as the experimental class. The data collection technique uses an observation sheet that covers three aspects of concentration, namely focus, duration of attention and suitability in working. The analysis used is descriptive statistics to describe data in both numerical and visual forms while inferential statistics to draw conclusions about a population based on data. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in children's learning concentration in the experimental class after being given treatment in the form of ice breaking wire game activities. This is evidenced by the N-gain value of the experimental class of 0.88 with a high category, while the N-gain value of the control class was only 0.093. In addition, it can be seen from the Mann Whitney U test the Asymp value. Sig.(2-tailed) 0.002 which is less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected which means that there is an influence of the effectiveness of ice breaking wire game activities in developing the learning concentration abilities of early childhood children and there is a difference in the learning concentration abilities of early childhood children from both the experimental and control classes
