Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this research is implementation PhET Interactive Simulations Media with a Guided Inquiry Approach to Improve Students' Critical Thinking Skills" based on the description provided above. Physics Educational Technology (PhET) simulations is the virtual laboratory makes use of practical simulation principles to carry out engaging learning. By using an inquiry-based learning approach, students are trained to formulate problems, generate hypotheses, conduct experiments, gather data, analyze data, write and describe theories, and honestly follow rules so that the actions of the offenders mirror those of scientists. This study method is quasi-experimental, because it uses a guided inquiry learning strategy to assess how critical thinking abilities are improved when learning the pH of acid and base solutions. The study's conclusion is combining PhET Interactive Simulations media with a guided inquiry approach, the average learning outcomes are higher than when using a conventional learning.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the motivation of science teachers and students towards science after participating in the activity of assembling, simulating, and recording line follower robots as an effort to motivate middle school students and teachers towards science in Bengkulu Province. The research was done by direct practicing, where 60 students and 15 teachers of three junior high school (SMP): SMP Negeri 06 Seluma, SMP Negeri 02 Kota Bengkulu, and SMP Negeri 8 Rejang Lebong, were involved as the research subjects. The research activity concluded that the schools are ready to prepare simple electronics/robot laboratories for the three research subjects and the science teachers and students were motivated to learn science. It was seen from the score of 3.95 (scale of 1 to 5) for students, and for the science teacher, the score was 3.83 (scale of 1 to 5). The science teachers will follow up on robotics activities so that students will be interested in learning science at home and school.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) electrochemical aptasensor with the Box-Behnken experimental design. ENaC is a protein that plays a role in sodium ion transport in several epithelial tissues and is associated with hypertension. The ENaC protein aptamer is held in place in the electrochemical aptasensor by a modified screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) of silica-ceria composite (SiO2-CeO2). The unique structure of a silica matrix with high biocompatibility can form composites through a hydrothermal process. The Box-Behnken (BBD) experimental design is an efficient optimization method of factors that affect the experiment at three levels. The FTIR results of the silica-ceria composites were 549.35 cm-1 (Ce-O), 1095.3 cm-1 (Si-O-Si), and 491.28 cm-1 (Si-O). Meanwhile, SPCE/silica-ceria characterized by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) showed an increase in peak current [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- from 3.190 μA to 9.073 μA. Three experimental factors, aptamer concentration, streptavidin incubation time, and aptamer incubation time, were optimized with BBD and obtained at 0.5 μg.mL-1, 30 minutes, and 1 hour. The optimum conditions observed resulted in a selective current response for ENaC protein detection. The optimization results can be applied to aptamer-based ENaC protein detection in samples.

Abstract

One of the heavy metals that can pollute waters is the heavy metal chromium (Cr). Chromium has many important roles in life. Chromium material is widely used by humans for various purposes, especially in the industrial world. However, the large number of uses of chromium in the industrial world and the waste it generates can have a negative impact on the environment and human health. One way to deal with chromium pollution is by analyzing the presence of chromium in waters. The aim of this research is to analyze the presence of chromium using a simple, effective, economical and accurate method, namely the biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles using samples of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi) as a bioreductor rich in ascorbic acid, with a colorimetric method, namely a method based on the aggregation of gold nanoparticles with ascorbic acid from starfruit, which causes a shift in plasmons and causes color changes that can be seen by the eye. Based on the analysis results, data was obtained that gold nanoparticles synthesized from the starfruit bioreductor can detect chromium with a concentration of 10 ppm with optimum conditions at pH 5, temperature 75oC, optimum incubation time of 5 minutes and gold nanoparticles are selective and sensitive for detecting chromium.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the needs of students in science learning at MTsN 1 Seluma, Bengkulu. The method used was a survey via questionnaire with 9 questions given to 30 class VII students. The survey results show that 100% of students have textbooks/handbooks, 100% have smartphones, 93% have difficulty studying material that only comes from books, so 100% of students look for other materials besides books from school to help understand the material. science via the internet, therefore 100% of students need interesting alternative learning media. In science learning, students agree that there is Android-based learning media for science material, especially environmental pollution material. Students want learning to be adapted to current developments and technology, interesting, interactive, and can be accessed anytime and anywhere via smartphone. Implementation of media in the form of Android-based applications can be an alternative to empower students' use of technology and to improve the quality of science learning.

Abstract

The acid base indicators commonly used by scientists are mostly synthetic indicators that are harmful for the environment. Moreover, chemists need various chemicals to detect broad pH ranges for acid and base samples solution.  The aim of this research was to create a natural universal pH indicator from telang flower (Clitoria ternatea L.) extract coupled with the digital image detection. The universal pH indicator is very important in education chemistry that broadly used for titration and other class room chemical experiments. This process of making a natural universal pH indicator integrated with digital images meets green chemistry criteria that use environmentally friendly materials and technology. The results show that color absorption data at pH 1-2 are purple, pH 3-5 are violet, pH 6-10 are blue, pH 11-12 are green and pH 13-14 are yellow. RGB intensity digital image data shows the intensity of the red color increases in the pH range 6-11, while the intensity of the green and blue colors tends to be stable. The proposed method was validated using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and conventional pH meter that give the comparable results.
