Abstract

Abstract

Attentional control is a critical cognitive component in precision-based sports such as wushu, where athletes must coordinate complex motor actions with sustained focus. While mindfulness training has been widely studied in sport psychology, its integration into sport-specific training contexts remains limited, particularly in martial arts. This study aimed to examine the effect of embedding mindfulness practices into regular wushu training on athletes’ attentional control. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 23 adolescent wushu athletes (aged 16–20 years) with at least two years of training experience. Participants underwent a four-week mindfulness-integrated training program (3 sessions/week, 30 minutes/session). Attentional control was measured using the Attention Control Scale (ACS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and effect size (Cohen’s d). Result: The results showed a significant improvement in attentional control scores (p < 0.001), with mean scores increasing from 60.30 to 75.91. The effect size was large (d = 3.92), indicating substantial practical impact. Conclusion: Embedding mindfulness into sport-specific training may effectively enhance attentional control in wushu athletes. However, due to the absence of a control group, findings should be interpreted cautiously. Future studies using stronger experimental designs are recommended.

Abstract

The  purpose  of  the study. Men’s indoor hockey is a high-intensity invasion sport in which goal-scoring efficiency serves as a critical determinant of competitive success. Despite the strategic importance of different scoring modes, comparative investigations examining the relative relationships between field goals, penalty corner goals, and match outcomes remain limited, particularly in Southeast Asian elite competitions. This study aimed to examine and compare the relationships between field goals, penalty corner goals, and team victories in men’s indoor hockey at the SEA Games 2025. Materials and methods. A quantitative observational design employing systematic notational analysis was applied to 26 team–match observations derived from 13 official matches involving five national teams. Match outcome was coded as win (1) or loss (0), while field goals and penalty corner goals served as independent variables. Descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Shapiro–Wilk normality tests, Spearman’s rank correlation, Mann–Whitney U tests, and binary logistic regression were employed to analyze the data. Results. Field goals accounted for 60.0% of total goals (n = 72), while penalty corner goals contributed 40.0% (n = 48). Both scoring modes were significantly associated with match outcome; however, penalty corner goals exhibited a stronger correlation with victories (ρ = .788, p < .001) than field goals (ρ = .583, p = .002). The Mann–Whitney U test confirmed significantly higher scoring ranks for winning teams in both categories, with a larger separation observed for penalty corner goals (U = 11.00, Z = −3.94, p < .001). Logistic regression indicated that a one-goal increase in penalty corner goals was associated with a 12.09-fold increase in the odds of winning (Exp(B) = 12.09), compared with a 5.23-fold increase for field goals. The model explained 86% of the variance in match outcome (Nagelkerke R² = .86) with 88.5% classification accuracy. Conclusions. Although open-play goals provide the primary scoring volume, penalty corner efficiency plays a more decisive role in determining team victories in elite men’s indoor hockey. These findings offer evidence-based insights for tactical planning and training prioritization in competitive indoor hockey.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of video-based learning media on improving Heian Godan kata skills among beginner karateka. The study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. A total of 30 beginner karateka participated in this study and were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received video-based learning media, while the control group was trained using conventional methods. The research instrument was an assessment sheet for Heian Godan kata skills. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results indicated that both groups showed significant improvements in kata skills (p < 0.05); however, the experimental group demonstrated a greater improvement than the control group. The independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that video-based learning media have a significant effect on improving Heian Godan kata skills among beginner karateka. Therefore, video-based learning media are recommended as an alternative or complementary approach to conventional karate training methods. Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of developing basic locomotor movement teaching materials on student learning outcomes in elementary schools. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE instructional design model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), which aims to develop and test the effectiveness of learning products in the form of basic locomotor movement teaching modules. The research subjects were phase B students, namely fourth grade elementary school students of SD Negeri Kebraon 1 Surabaya. The data collection instrument used is a learning outcomes test to measure students’ abilities before and after implementing the developed teaching module. The data analysis technique was carried out using the paired sample t-test to determine differences in student learning outcomes before and after being given treatment. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the development of the basic locomotor movement teaching module has had a significant influence on improving student learning outcomes, so that the developed teaching module is declared effective and suitable for use in PE learning in elementary schools.
