Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) plays a crucial role in developing students’ physical fitness, motor skills, and socio-moral values through structured physical activities; however, recent studies indicate a decline in students’ learning motivation, particularly in contexts where instructional approaches remain conventional and insufficiently innovative. This study aimed to examine the effect of gymball game innovation in PJOK learning on students’ learning motivation. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The population consisted of 360 tenth-grade students from public senior high schools in Jombang, Indonesia, with 72 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated Likert-scale motivation questionnaire adapted to the physical education context and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to the ordinal nature of the data. Results indicated an increase in motivation scores following the intervention, with the median improving from 63 to 72, and statistical testing confirming a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −6.214, p < 0.05) with a large effect size (r = 0.73). These findings suggest that gymball-based learning innovation positively influences student motivation in PJOK classes. The study highlights the importance of integrating creative and interactive physical learning media to foster engagement and intrinsic motivation, contributing conceptually and practically to the advancement of student-centered physical education pedagogy.

Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning at the elementary school level still faces challenges in the form of low student engagement and a lack of innovation in learning models. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative model on improving the PJOK learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Gedong 10, East Jakarta. The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 students selected through purposive sampling. The assessment instruments covered three areas of learning outcomes: cognitive (multiple-choice tests), psychomotor (performance tests), and affective (attitude observations). The data were analyzed using a paired t-test and Cohen's d effect size. The results showed a significant increase in learning outcomes after the implementation of the TGT model, with a pretest average of 83.71 and a posttest average of 87.84 (p = 0.000; effect size 0.939, large category). The highest increase occurred in the cognitive domain (difference of 5.16; effect size 0.87), followed by psychomotor (difference of 4.26; effect size 0.81), and affective (difference of 2.97; effect size 0.64). The conclusion of this study is that the TGT cooperative model has been proven effective in comprehensively improving PJOK learning outcomes and creating active, enjoyable, and student-centered learning.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effect of aerobic dance accompanied by traditional and modern music on increasing the cardiovascular endurance of students. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample consisted of 40 students of Makassar State University who were divided into two groups: an aerobic dance group with traditional South Sulawesi music and an exercise group with popular modern music. The exercise was carried out for six weeks, three times a week, for 45 minutes per session. Data were collected through a multistage test (beep test) to measure VO₂ max and analyzed using parametric statistical tests. The results showed that both groups experienced a significant increase in cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). However, a greater increase occurred in the traditional music group (Δ = 3.34) than in the modern music group (Δ = 2.39). These findings indicate that traditional music accompaniment is more effective in increasing cardiovascular endurance and providing added value in the context of preserving local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.

Abstract

Abstract

Physical Education (PJOK) learning often faces low student motivation due to monotonous conventional approaches. This study analyzed the effectiveness of a fun game approach through quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design on 30 students over five weeks. Data were collected using a Likert-scale motivation questionnaire and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a 41.09% increase in motivation, from an average of 67.23 to 94.87, with a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.42; p < 0.05). Ninety percent of students achieved high motivation after the intervention, compared to only 6.67% at the beginning of the study. The game approach was deemed effective because it was able to fulfill basic psychological needs according to Self-Determination Theory, especially aspects of competence and social relatedness. The integration of game elements such as tiered challenges, healthy competition, team collaboration, and a reward system successfully created a more engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere. These findings provide practical references for PJOK teachers in designing innovative learning to increase students' motivation and positive attitudes towards physical activity.
