Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning at the elementary school level still faces challenges in the form of low student engagement and a lack of innovation in learning models. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative model on improving the PJOK learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Gedong 10, East Jakarta. The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 students selected through purposive sampling. The assessment instruments covered three areas of learning outcomes: cognitive (multiple-choice tests), psychomotor (performance tests), and affective (attitude observations). The data were analyzed using a paired t-test and Cohen's d effect size. The results showed a significant increase in learning outcomes after the implementation of the TGT model, with a pretest average of 83.71 and a posttest average of 87.84 (p = 0.000; effect size 0.939, large category). The highest increase occurred in the cognitive domain (difference of 5.16; effect size 0.87), followed by psychomotor (difference of 4.26; effect size 0.81), and affective (difference of 2.97; effect size 0.64). The conclusion of this study is that the TGT cooperative model has been proven effective in comprehensively improving PJOK learning outcomes and creating active, enjoyable, and student-centered learning.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effect of aerobic dance accompanied by traditional and modern music on increasing the cardiovascular endurance of students. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample consisted of 40 students of Makassar State University who were divided into two groups: an aerobic dance group with traditional South Sulawesi music and an exercise group with popular modern music. The exercise was carried out for six weeks, three times a week, for 45 minutes per session. Data were collected through a multistage test (beep test) to measure VO₂ max and analyzed using parametric statistical tests. The results showed that both groups experienced a significant increase in cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). However, a greater increase occurred in the traditional music group (Δ = 3.34) than in the modern music group (Δ = 2.39). These findings indicate that traditional music accompaniment is more effective in increasing cardiovascular endurance and providing added value in the context of preserving local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.

Abstract

Physical Education (PJOK) learning often faces low student motivation due to monotonous conventional approaches. This study analyzed the effectiveness of a fun game approach through quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design on 30 students over five weeks. Data were collected using a Likert-scale motivation questionnaire and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a 41.09% increase in motivation, from an average of 67.23 to 94.87, with a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.42; p < 0.05). Ninety percent of students achieved high motivation after the intervention, compared to only 6.67% at the beginning of the study. The game approach was deemed effective because it was able to fulfill basic psychological needs according to Self-Determination Theory, especially aspects of competence and social relatedness. The integration of game elements such as tiered challenges, healthy competition, team collaboration, and a reward system successfully created a more engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere. These findings provide practical references for PJOK teachers in designing innovative learning to increase students' motivation and positive attitudes towards physical activity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the teaching styles of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers and the aerobic fitness levels of ninth-grade students based on the results of the PACER Test at public junior high schools in the Wiyung District of Surabaya. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach with research locations at Public Junior High Schools 34, 51, and 59 in Surabaya. The research subjects consisted of 85 ninth-grade students and three PJOK teachers selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included a Likert scale questionnaire on PJOK teachers' teaching styles to identify teaching style tendencies and the PACER Test to measure students' aerobic fitness levels. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of scores, percentages, and radar diagram visualizations. The results showed that the teaching styles of PE teachers at SMP Negeri 34 and SMP Negeri 51 were dominated by the command style, while those at SMP Negeri 59 tended to use the student-initiated style. However, the PACER Test results at all three schools showed that the majority of students were in the “very poor” aerobic fitness category. These findings indicate that differences in teaching styles have not been accompanied by optimal levels of students' aerobic fitness. Therefore, more varied PJOK learning is needed, oriented towards intensive physical activity and supported by students' physical activity habits outside of class hours.

Abstract

Background: Menstrual-related symptoms may affect both physical performance and psychological readiness in female soccer players. However, limited research has examined the association between self-confidence and coping strategies during menstruation in competitive settings. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the association between self-confidence and coping strategies among female soccer players during menstruation. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was employed involving 24 female soccer players. Self-confidence was measured using the Trait Sport Confidence Inventory (TSCI), while coping strategies were assessed using the Brief COPE Inventory. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Participants showed relatively high levels of self-confidence (M = 21.04, SD = 1.90) and coping strategies (M = 27.08, SD = 2.32). A very strong positive correlation was found between the two variables (r = 0.858, p < 0.01), indicating a large effect size. Conclusion:  Coping strategies were strongly associated with self-confidence among female soccer players during menstruation. These findings suggest the importance of psychological factors in supporting athletes’ adaptation to physiological challenges, although causal relationships cannot be inferred due to the cross-sectional design.

Abstract

Wushu taolu requires not only physical skill and technical precision but also strong mental stability to perform under pressure. However, many athletes struggle with high levels of anxiety, competitive stress, and diminished self-esteem, factors that significantly undermine their performance. These persistent psychological challenges make it essential to implement mindfulness as a targeted mental intervention, enabling athletes to regulate their emotions, sustain focus, and maintain composure throughout competition. This study examined the effects of mindfulness training on anxiety, stress resilience, and self-confidence among wushu taolu athletes. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest was used. Participants were 33 athletes from the East Java Wushu Team: 17 participated in a four-week mindfulness program (three sessions per week, 30–40 minutes), while 16 continued their normal training. Standardized scales measured psychological changes before and after treatment. Results showed the mindfulness group had lower cognitive (ΔM = 4.76; p < 0.001) and somatic anxiety (ΔM = 4.35; p < 0.001), and higher resilience (ΔM = 4.82; p < 0.001) and confidence (ΔM = 5.12; p < 0.001). The large effect sizes confirm the intervention's strong impact. In conclusion, mindfulness effectively enhances athletes' psychological readiness for competition. It can be integrated into regular training programs as a practical strategy to strengthen emotional control, focus, and overall psychological performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence students' interest in futsal material in elementary school learning. A cross-sectional design was used to examine the perceptions of 437 students in the city of Surabaya. Data collection used an interest questionnaire consisting of aspects of interest, attention, enjoyment, motivation, and participation. Questionnaire validity and reliability were established using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The factors derived from student perceptions were analyzed using ANOVA (more than 2 groups) and independent t-tests (2 groups). All analyses were conducted using the Jamovi application at a significance level of 0.05. Independent t-test results revealed that gender significantly influences students’ interest levels (p < 0.05). ANOVA results demonstrated that grade level, students’ perceptions of futsal learning, parental support, and nutritional status were significantly associated with student interest (p < 0.05). School facilities, however, did not show a significant association (p = 0.256 > 0.05). These findings suggest that student interest is shaped by an interplay of individual and environmental factors. This study highlights the importance of enjoyment-based and adaptive instructional approaches that are responsive to students’ characteristics in fostering interest in futsal learning.
