Abstract

Basic movement skills are the skills needed to explore the body’s ability to move as a result of learning to respond to stimuli. However, the learning process is still focused on mastering the skills but does not include the cognitive abilities. The research aims to measure the success of implementing field games in stimulating elementary school students' fundamental movement skills. The experiment adopted the one-group pretest and posttest designs. It was conducted in three consecutive stages: pretest, treatment, and posttest. The study involved a sample of 126 students who were randomly taken from elementary schools in Pontianak. The data on fundamental movement skills were collected through the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2) instrument, which was analyzed descriptively. The results of the study showed that there had been an increase in the average TGMD-2 score of students on the posttest when compared to the pretest. The t-test between pre- and post-test showed that the scores were significantly different, as suggested by the calculated t-value having a greater value than the t-table. This result indicates that the implementation of field games can stimulate fundamental movement skills. It is concluded that applying field games can improve students' fundamental movement skills and can be used as an alternative for teachers in carrying out motion learning at school.

Abstract

Local wisdom has become an important pedagogical resource in language education because it connects language learning with students’ cultural identity, community knowledge, and everyday communicative practices. However, language classrooms are often dominated by textbook-based instruction and standardized linguistic targets that provide limited space for students’ local cultural experiences. This study aims to examine teachers’ pedagogical strategies for integrating local wisdom into language education and to analyze how these strategies support students’ classroom engagement and intercultural awareness. The study employed a mixed-method design involving 48 language teachers, 192 students, 12 teacher interviews, 8 classroom observations, and 24 teaching documents. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that teachers integrated local wisdom through contextualized materials, local narratives, cultural resource mapping, translanguaging practices, community-based tasks, and reflective intercultural assessment. Contextualized teaching materials were the most frequently used strategy (M = 4.32; SD = 0.51), followed by local narratives and oral traditions (M = 4.15; SD = 0.57). Reflective intercultural assessment was least frequently implemented (M = 3.08; SD = 0.79), although it showed the strongest correlation with intercultural awareness (r = 0.62; p < .01). The study concludes that local wisdom should be positioned as a pedagogical foundation for culturally responsive, multilingual, and reflective language education.

Abstract

This Community Service Program was motivated by the science learning practices in primary and secondary schools in Sungai Kakap District, which remain largely theoretical, rote-oriented, and insufficiently connected to local cultural contexts. Science teachers have not optimally utilized digital technology as a learning resource and an assessment tool. These conditions reduce the meaningfulness of science learning for students. Therefore, training focused on developing local culture-based learning resources and assessment was considered necessary. This program aimed to enhance the competencies of primary and secondary science teachers by developing culture-based learning resources and authentic assessment methods. The program was implemented through three stages: preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation, using participatory methods such as discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice. The activity was conducted on 31 August 2025, in Sungai Kakap District and involved 20 primary and secondary science teachers. Evaluation instruments included participant activity observation sheets, product assessment rubrics, and participant response questionnaires. Success indicators encompassed active participant engagement, the development of Sungai Kakap local culture-based learning resources and assessment, and positive participant responses to the program. The results indicated an improvement in teachers’ ability to integrate local culture into science learning. Approximately 80% of participants identified relevant local cultural potential and designed context-based performance tasks, while 60% successfully developed prototype e-supplements and simple video learning storyboards. Observations showed high levels of active participation and collaboration during the training. Questionnaire results indicated that participants perceived the program as relevant and applicable. Overall, this community service program effectively strengthened teachers’ pedagogical competence and digital literacy while promoting more contextually and meaningfully grounded science learning.
