Abstract

One of the most significant current discussions in development country is poverty, including in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the most populous in the worlds with 237.6 million people in 2010, where 76.93 % of poverty are concentrated in Java(55.33%) and Sumatra(21.6%), followed by the Sulawesi (7.15%), Bali and Nusa Tenggara (6.90%), Maluku and Papua(5.69 %) and the Borneo (3.26%). The Sumatra Island is the second most populous after Java. This paper attempted to create profiling poverty of 151 residences and cities in Sumatera. The poverty characteristics included in the profiling are:levelof education, manpower distribution, expenditures per capita, health, housing facilities, and government’s poverty eradication programs. Data resources are from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The data were analyzed by principle component analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Data Analysis. From the 45 original variables, the analysis of components with factor analysis produced as many as 32 variables as the main components, adequate for further analysis as 'key factors' for social economic characteristic profile of residences and cities in Sumatera. These main components demonstrated the adequate values of KMO, MSA, and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity.Following the result from Factor Analysis to obtain the important factors of poverty, the method of hierarchical cluster analysis was, further, used to classify the profiles of 108 residences and cities in Sumatera. The results of cluster analysis with 5interesting clusters of poverty profile of socio-economic indicators show that Cluster 1 comprises of 7 residences with similar characteristic of level of educationand manpower distribution. Cluster 2 includes 9 residences with similar level of education and expenditures per capita. Cluster 3 consists of 36 residences and 2 cities with similar manpower distribution and expenditures per capita patterns. Cluster 4 comprises of 23 residences and 3 cities showing its own distinct characteristics in their similarity patterns of expenditures per capita and housing facilities. Then, the cluster 5 consists of 2 residences and 27 cities showing the similar patterns in level of education and housing facilities.

Abstract

The concept of the factors that influence the behavior of farmers in receiving Operasi Pangan Riau Makmur program (OPRM) needs to be done to determine the most significant effect on the program’s accepting. The designing of a model before the implementation of a program, is expected to minimize the unusable things in reality. Modeling analysis SEM (structural equation model) which is used in behavior of farmer’s research designed so as to find a suitable model. Three exogenous variables used in this research, the characteristics of farmers, extension of competence, and competence of the management of farmer groups. Each of these exogenous variables formed by eight indicators, so it is could explain that the skills, systematic program delivery, mastery of the program, and time management, are not included in the indicator models that is affecting the behavior of farmers as endogenous variables, to accept or deny the existence of the program. Farmer behavior is further analyzed the suitability of the model with the independence of farmers. Suitability models were constructed and analyzed is expected to be used by the government or related agencies, before involving the farmers as participants.

Abstract

Riau Province is the province with abundant natural resources, such as petroleum, oil palm, coconut, and cacao and other plantation commodities.Nevertheless, the contrary condition happens in the aspect of food commodities. Riau Province still relies on its needs of food from the neighbor provinces, namely West Sumatra Province, North Sumatra, Jambi and importing from overseas. One of the main problem that happens in Riau Province is the lack of food production or the deficiency between production and needs of consumption which tend to increase and if the number of food deficiency is not reduced, the food insecurity is about to worry to happen in the future. In line with the national food security policy and in order to reduce the dependence of rice supply from other regions in 2013 therefore in 2009 The Government of Riau Province launched a program named Operasi Pangan Riau Makmur (OPRM). The aims of the research are: (1)to figure out the profile of farmers as the participants of OPRM Program in Kampar Regency (2) to analyze the dominant factors affecting the lowland rice farming activities in Kampar Regency (3) to analyze factors affecting paddy production and technical efficiency level and the alocative aspect of lowland rice farming in Kampar Regency. The method of analysis used in the research were qualitative (descriptive) analysis to answer the first aim, Cob-douglas production function analysis to answer the second aim and frontier production function and multiple function of border cost with DEAP approach to answer the third aim. The result showed that the land area, ureum fertilizer, SP36 fertilizer, organic fertilizer, labor, land suitability, experience in farming activity and education affected the production significantly. In general the farmers as participants and the non-participantsof OPRM program have been efficient technically, but they were not efficient in alocative and economic aspect.

Abstract

Poverty alleviation planning should be started with data analysis in advance. One of the poverty data sources available in Indonesia is the Regency/City Poverty Data and Information Catalog, published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). From the catalog published in the time series can be observed where the poverty rate decreases along with the increasing budget for poverty reduction. In 2005, there were 35.1 million people (15.97%) of the country living under the poverty line and in 2015 reduced to be 28.51 million people which equaled 11.13% of the total population of Indonesia. This research aims to analyze poverty factors in 175 regents and cities located on the islands of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara using data from BPS. The principal component analysis (PCA) is the main analytical instrument that was used in this research. The poverty data from BPS has 9 aspects/factors and PCA analysis results in the same number of main components/factors. The difference in the result of these two observations is seen in variable members in each component that could be occurred because BPS conducts grouping of variables before the population data collection gets started, while PCA classifies variables based on data that has been collected or after the population data collection is completed. PCA results can be utilized for further research purposes such as regional clustering, implementation of evaluation, and planning. Meanwhile, the BPS poverty aspect displayed in a more structured arrangement, makes it is easier to observe for publications and more practical to use when conducting population data collection.

Abstract

Beras rendang is a traditional food from Payakumbuh, West Sumatra.  Beras rendang is made from white glutinous rice flour, which is roasted until dried and then mixed with liquid sugar and coconut milk, then cooked in a big pan. Since it is rich in fat from coconut milk, it can easily turn rancid during storage. Beras rendang is usually packed with oil-paper, but the nature of its glutinous rice ingredient makes it sticky enough to the paper and hard to peel off later. Therefore, this study is performed to use tapioca edible film as an alternative packing to the paper.  The shelf life of beras rendang, which is packed with the paper compared to tapioca edible film, was estimated in this research. Then, the acceleration method was conducted by storing beras rendang for 30 days at three different temperatures, i.e., 30, 35, and 40°C, to estimate the shelf life of beras rendang. The parameters observed were sensory assessments of rancidity and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values of beras rendang during storage.  Data were analyzed using linear regression, then the equations obtained were used to calculate the shelf life of beras rendang at normal temperature (27°C). Based on rancidity sensory, the beras rendang shelf life packed with edible tapioca film was 59.26 days on the zero-order reaction with the regression equation of  y = -4542.9x + 11.545, activation energy of 9,022.19 cal.mol-1, and quality degradation rate of 0.027 quality unit per day.  Meanwhile, based on the TBA value, the beras rendang shelf life packed with the paper was 45.15 days on the zero-order reaction with the regression equation of y = -1991.7x – 2.3267, with an activation energy of 3,955.51 kal.mol-1, and quality degradation rate of 0.013 quality unit per day. It is found that beras rendang stored using edible tapioca film had a longer shelf life than paper packing. Therefore, the edible tapioca film as a packing alternative shows more advantages than paper packing in terms of its ability to prolong the shelf life, and its convenience to consume the beras rendang without needing to peel it off, because the film is edible.

Abstract

Hydrocarbon-impeded soil (HIS) is solid waste from spills or leaks during industrial activities that negatively impact the environment. This study aims to utilize HIS as catalyst support on MnO2 to degrade RhB (RhB) solution using Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and to determine the optimum conditions for the catalyst to degrade RhB. The catalyst was synthesized by reacting HIS, calcined with KMnO4 with various catalyst supports with high and low Total contain Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH). The process degradation of Rhodamine Solution was carried out with various catalysts, PMS, and RhB concentrations. The catalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Nitrogen gas adsorption-desorption (BET), and Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Disperse Spectroscope (SEM-EDX). In this study,  the best catalyst performance was MnO2@H-TPH, which could activate PMS to degrade RhB with dye removal of 98% in about 180 min, at conditions 10 g/L RhB, 0.1 g/L catalyst, and 3 g/L PMS with the activation energy of 16.3 kJ/mol.
