Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension as a silent killer, are a major global health threat with the highest mortality rates. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia reached 34.1%, and 29.2% in North Sumatra. In 2023, North Sumatra recorded 3,287,526 hypertension cases among individuals aged ≥15, yet only 18.61% received healthcare services. Medan had the highest number of cases (478,092) with low service coverage (9.43%). In 2024, Bagan Deli Subdistrict in Medan reported 457 cases, with most residents working as fishermen. This study aims to examine the relationship between attitudes, work patterns (including working hours, fatigue, sleep quality, smoking habits), and sedentary lifestyle with hypertension incidence among fishermen. A quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach was used on 95 respondents selected via accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results showed significant relationships between hypertension and attitude (ρ=0.008), working hours (ρ=0.038), and fatigue (ρ=0.017). No significant relationships were found with sleep quality (ρ=0.488), smoking (ρ=0.057), or sedentary lifestyle (ρ=0.319). These findings may support the development of more effective hypertension prevention programs in coastal fishing communities.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a health problem resulting from chronic malnutrition over a long period. Although it serves as the district capital, Pangururan Sub-District still has a relatively high stunting prevalence, with 154 out of 2,460 measured toddlers (6.26%) affected. Identifying associated factors is necessary to design targeted interventions. Objective: This study aims to analyse the factors associated with the incidence of stunting in early childhood children in the working area of Buhit Community Health Centre, Pangururan Sub-District, Samosir Regency. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design conducted in the working area of Buhit Community Health Centre. The study population consisted of mothers with toddlers in the area, with a sample size of 96 mothers selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and anthropometric measurements and analysed using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results: Bivariate analysis results showed significant relationships between maternal nutritional status (p=0.000), parenting patterns (p=0.000), maternal education level (p=0.000), family income level (p=0.003), and exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.029) with the incidence of stunting. Multivariate analysis indicated that maternal education level was the most dominant variable (p=0.013; OR=12.814), meaning that mothers with low education levels had a 12.8 times higher risk of having stunted children. Conclusion: Maternal nutritional status, parenting patterns, maternal education, family income, and exclusive breastfeeding were significantly associated with stunting, with maternal education level being the dominant factor. Therefore, stunting prevention efforts in this region should prioritise health education targeting mothers with low educational backgrounds.

Abstract

Health cadres have long been known for their role in health development. For this reason, cadres can be used as learning facilitators in the community, and can continue to be encouraged to carry out services and counseling in the community, including COVID-19. How to conduct education in order to maintain health protocols encourages the service team to design learning media that are of interest to the public, both young and old, because the media is through playing, namely the snake and ladder game. The IT-based Snakes and Ladders game referred to in this service is Snakes and Ladders Board Game Using Joysticks. Only by using the joystick the dice can rotate without having to be close together. Each ladder and snake on the ladder snake board contains various questions related to Covid-19 including the characteristics of the virus, how the virus spreads, prevention of virus transmission and protocols that should be carried out so as not to contract Covid-19. There are 41 questions for ladders and 37 questions for snakes. This service was carried out on 12 cadres representing 12 Kelurahan in the working area of the Medan Tuntungan Health Center. Education through the media is very fun for the cadres because they learn how to play. This can be seen from the increased knowledge and attitudes of cadres about covid 19 before and after being educated on the Snakes and Ladders Game Board using a media joystick. This media already has IPR number EC00202156832.

Abstract

Occupations related to hospitals or health have a high tendency to be exposed to work stress or depression. Work stress becomes a risk to the health and safety of workers when the work carried out exceeds the capacity, resources and abilities of workers for a long time. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of stress on doctors at Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan in 2021. This study used a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were all doctors at the 2021 Hospital, totaling 85 people. The number of samples is 46 people. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to respondents. Data analysis consisted of univariate analysis, bivariate with Chi Square test, multivariate with Logistic Regression test. The results showed that there was a relationship between workload (p= 0.002; PR = 2.4; 95% CI 1.254 – 4.844), fatigue (p= 0.010; OR = 2.3; 95%CI 1.108-4.870) on the incidence of work stress. to the hospital doctor. While the interaction variables with superiors (p = 0.282; PR = 1.3; 95%CI 0.906-2.077), interaction with coworkers (p = 0.078; PR = 1.6; 95%CI 0.152 – 2.411), job security ( p = 0.516; PR = 1.3; 95% CI 0.829-1.962) on work stress on doctors. The dominant variable related to the incidence of work stress in doctors is the workload variable (p = 0.004; PR = 9.4; 95%CI 2.032-43.854), meaning that doctors who have a high workload have 9.4 times the tendency to experience abnormal stress compared to doctors who have a high workload. with low workload. Thus, it is hoped that the hospital will pay attention to the workload of doctors so that doctors can provide good service and comfort to patients who visit the hospital.
