Abstract

Vocational High School (VHS) is an educational institution with various practical activities to equip students to master the competencies needed when working in the industrial world. Working in a practical workshop has various potential hazards, including the risk of experiencing work accidents, one of which is due to unsafe action. A preliminary survey based on the results of observations showed that out of 30 VHS students working in the practical workshop, 83.3% of them had unsafe actions such as not using personal protective equipment, as well as chatting and joking during the practical process. This study aims to determine the factors that influence unsafe action in the practical workshop of students of public vocational schools in Medan City. The study population was class XI students, totalling 164 students, with a sample size of 113 students selected by simple random sampling. This type of research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in three Vocational Schools with mechanical engineering majors in Medan City: State Vocational School 2, State Vocational School 5, and State Vocational School 14. Data analysis was conducted univariately and bivariately, with simple and multivariate data, and with multiple logistic regression. The results showed that the majority of students had unsafe action (84.1%), as well as knowledge (60.2%) and supervision (61.1%). Supervision (p=0.012) had a relationship with unsafe action, while knowledge (p=0.143) and tools and equipment (p=0.121) did not show significant relationship. Students with poor supervision had 3.937 times (95% CI: 1.353-11.640) risk of unsafe action compared to those with good supervision. Schools are expected to increase supervision or responsibility as well as implement a reward and punishment system for students to reduce the occurrence of unsafe actions that can increase the risk of work accidents. Abstract

Introduction: Problems that dominate adolescence include sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and drugs.  sexual behavior of adolescents can hurt their health, both physically, psychologically, and socially, which often ends in unwanted pregnancies, early marriage, abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and other manifestations in the form of increased maternal mortality rates (MMR). Objectives: to examine one of the factors related to adolescents' exposure in shaping their sexual behavior, namely by analyzing the length of internet and social media access of adolescents in a day with adolescent sexual behavior. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design, using a sample in the study of 170 adolescents in Terjun Village, Medan Marelan Subdistrict which was taken by simple random sampling. the data obtained were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: show that there is a significant relationship between the length of internet access and adolescent social media in a day with adolescent sexual behavior with a p value = 0.0005 (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: To prevent risky sexual behavior in adolescents related to access to the internet and social media, better monitoring is needed from parents and also providing education to adolescents about positive internet access so that all adolescents become wiser in using the internet and social media they have.

Abstract

This community engagement program focused on empowering coastal women members of the Indonesian Coastal Women’s Association (KPPI) in Bagan Deli, Medan Belawan District, by addressing gender issues and reproductive health rights. The activity was motivated by high maternal and infant mortality rates, limited understanding of family planning (FP), restricted access to women-friendly health services, and the strong influence of patriarchal culture that hinders women’s autonomy in reproductive decision-making. The methods included interactive health education, focus group discussions (FGDs), and the distribution of leaflets as educational media to extend knowledge within families and communities. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge after the intervention, as reflected in the differences between pre-test and post-test results. FGDs revealed women’s real experiences of limited contraceptive choices, lack of partner support, and socio-economic barriers influencing their reproductive health. The leaflet-based education strengthened comprehension and raised critical awareness of gender equality, enabling women to become more empowered in making family health decisions. Overall, this program contributed to enhancing health literacy, empowering coastal women, and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals on health (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5), and reducing inequalities (SDG 10).Program pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada pemberdayaan perempuan pesisir yang tergabung dalam Kesatuan Perempuan Pesisir Indonesia (KPPI) Bagan Deli, Kecamatan Medan Belawan, melalui isu gender dan hak kesehatan reproduksi.

Abstract

Adolescent sexual behavior is a complex issue that has a major impact on the health and well-being of young people worldwide. In today's internet era, it is shaped by many factors, including peer influence, family support, access to pornography, and reproductive health services. This study set out to examine the variables that influence adolescent sexual behavior. Using a cross-sectional design, researchers surveyed 170 adolescents in Terjun Village, selected through random sampling. Data were analyzed with the chi-square test to identify relationships between variables. The results showed that knowledge (p = 0.006), family support (p = 0.0005), and access to pornographic content (p = 0.0005) were significantly related to adolescent sexual behavior. In contrast, reproductive health services (p = 0.196) and peer influence (p = 0.440) did not show a significant relationship. These findings suggest that to help adolescents live healthier and more responsible sexual lives, efforts should focus on comprehensive sex education, strong family support, reproductive health promotion, and policy advocacy that reinforce these strategies Keywords: Adolescent, Sexual Behavior, Health, Risk
