Abstract

Carbofuran is a broad spectrum carbamat insecticide which is used in various farm practices. An exposure of carbofuran has been reported able to induce Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) or free radical in kidney. Free radical caused cells damage. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of carbofuran in kidneys histopathologic of mice pup whose dam were exposed by carbofuran during the lactation period. High levels of ROS can bind to various biomolecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids so that carbofuran has a negative effect on tissue functions and structures. Free radical caused changes in the pathological conditions of the tissue including the kidneys. The dams were devided into four groups of five animals each. P0 animal group was received aquadest 0,1 ml per body weight (BW), P1 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/16 LD50 (0,3125 mg per BW), P2 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/8 LD50 (0, 625 mg per BW), and P3 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/4 LD50 (1,25 mg per BW). The carbofuran was exposed via oral postnatal day 1st until 9th postnatal day after delivery. At postnatal day 10th, offspring were sacrified. The kidney of mice pup was collected and processed for microscopic examination with hematoxilin-eosin staining. Microscopic observations on the histology of the mice pup kidney showed an increase in the degree of kidney damage as an increase in the dose of carbofuran given to the dams. The results showed tubular changes in the form of tubular degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration and tubular necrosis in the kidney of mice pups.

Abstract

Laying breeds of chickens or commonly called layers are a breed of chicken that has potential value as an egg producer. The length of the layer production period is 80 – 90 weeks. During layer production, layers require high energy to produce, while the level of energy in the ration determines layer consumption. Various efforts have been made to increase the efficiency of using chicken feed in tropical areas, one of which is the use of additional feed additives. Feed additives that can be used are probiotics which come from microorganisms such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactococcus lactis. This research aims to determine the effect and potential of adding a combination of probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactococcus lactis in increasing the quantity and quality of layer eggs during the production period. This research is experimental using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This study used a layer population of 20 individuals from the Isa Brown strain aged 40 weeks which were divided into four groups consisting of P1, P2, P3 and P4 with each group consisting of 5 individuals. The data that was collected was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using SPSS version 24.0 software, then continued with the Duncan test on the data which showed significant differences (P<0.05). Based on the results of the study, the addition of the probiotics Lactobacillus acidophillus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactococcus lactis in drinking water at doses of 2 mL/L, 4 mL/L, and 6 mL/L cannot increase the quantity of layer eggs, but can improve the external quality of layer eggs (egg weight, egg length, egg diameter, shell weight, shell thickness), and can improve the internal quality of layer eggs (yolk score, egg yolk index, egg white index, and haugh unit).

Abstract

Skin diseases such as scabies continue to pose significant health issues within pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) due to inadequate sanitation and low awareness among students regarding personal higiene. Scabies is highly contagious, transmitted through direct contact and the sharing of personal items. Therefore, there is a need for interventions, specifically educational programs, to enhance knowledge and awareness about sanitation and the prevention of scabies in pesantren. This activity aims to improve students understanding of environmental sanitation, personal higiene, and the prevention and control of scabies through educational outreach activities. This initiative was conducted using outreach and practical training methods for students at Pondok Pesantren Al Amin, Lamongan. Evaluation involved pre-tests and post-tests, comparing the results to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The results was a noticeable improvement in students' knowledge, with the average score increasing from 84.1% on the pre-test to 91.6% on the post-test concerning personal higiene and environmental sanitation at the pesantren (p-value = 0.000). This educational activity successfully enhanced students' understanding of sanitation and health in the pesantren setting. Further approaches are necessary for the prevention and transmission of scabies.

Abstract

Tor tambroides, T. tambra, T. douronensis, and T. soro are native fish species to Indonesia with their natural habitat generally being upstream of rivers in hilly areas with clear water and strong currents. Information of the structure and function of appendicular osteology is necessary to understand how fish accelerate and maintain body balance in the water. This study used 5 samples per fish species obtained from Tor fishermen around the habitat of these fish. The results of the comparison showed morphological differences between the appendicular structure of Tor species, consisting structure of the pinnae pectoralis, pinnae pelvicalis, pinnae dorsalis, pinnae analis, and pinnae caudalis. The highest variation was found in the pinnae caudalis. The pointed shape of the pinnae caudalis with long fin rays indicates that the Tor species is capable to swim at a high speeds. Keywords:ossa appendiculareTor douronensisTor tambraTor tambroidesTor soro

Abstract

English learning is a vital skill in the era of globalization. However, many elementary school students struggle with English and show limited interest due to monotonous and less engaging teaching methods. This often leads to low confidence in using the language actively. To address this issue, the English Learning Program (BBI) was implemented to improve the English proficiency of 4th grade students at elementary school. The program introduced interactive and enjoyable teaching strategies through a group-based approach, including language games, conversation practices, songs to introduce parts of the body, and basic grammar lessons. These activities aimed to create a positive learning environment that encourages active participation and boosts student confidence. The results showed increased enthusiasm, participation, and comprehension among students. Many students demonstrated improved ability and willingness to use English in daily conversation. This program highlights the importance of innovative and interactive methods in fostering early interest and language proficiency. It suggests that well-designed, enjoyable approaches can significantly enhance English learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Bladder stones represent a significant and increasingly common health issue in captive green iguanas (Iguana iguana), often resulting from improper husbandry practices. This case report examines the diversity and characteristics of bladder stones in five green iguanas (three females, two males) presenting with abdominal enlargement and decreased appetite. Surgical removal (cystotomy) was performed, followed by detailed morphometric and chemical analyses of the extracted stones. The stones varied in size (15.3655.01 g), shape, and color (white, cream, and dark brown), yet chemical composition was consistently dominated by calcium oxalate (5260%), tricalcium phosphate (2328%), and uric acid (1012%). Morphometric analysis showed low variation (50%) across measured parameters, indicating homogeneity among the samples. Notably, lighter iguanas tended to harbor heavier stones, suggesting a correlation with disease progression rather than sex or stone color. These findings reinforce the role of dietary imbalances, dehydration, and the anatomical peculiarities of the iguana urinary system in stone formation. Early detection, appropriate diet, and optimal hydration are critical to prevent urolithiasis. This report contributes to the limited data on iguana urolithiasis in Indonesia and highlights the need for broader studies to explore preventive strategies.
