Abstract

The journey of history is always followed by a mass change that produces new phenomena as the spirit of the age. In this metamorphic context%2C the human space always undergoes changes in its meaning throughout the age. The change of views towards space is then interpreted into a design work with unique characters because apart from truly holding on to the cultural value valid%2C it also moves towards aesthetic idioms with a relative parameter. Thus%2C as an attempt to reconstruct the way of thought that is now in the arrangement of the global cultural cross domain%2C it is a necessity to reminisce the comprehension of the essence of space as the core of the problems in interior designing. The acknowledgement and the search of truth in “good design” truly need to be practiced because with the essence of truth%2C design will always extend and develop according to the context of its time. Abstract

Cultural hybrids complement the richness of the visual art of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa in Cirebon. The influence of diversity can be seen in the mosque including having strong local cultural characteristics, coupled with the influence of foreign cultures such as Arabic, India, and China. This study aims to find hybrid culture crosses in elements of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Cipta. The method used is the historical method. The historical method is the process of critically testing and analyzing records and relics of the past. This method consists of several stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study describe various forms of hybridity that have influenced the development of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa. The elements are considered to represent the period before Islam entered, or the influence of Hindu Buddhism, Chinese, Arab, Javanese, and European that coexist in Cirebon. The elements of visual arts in the mosque which are part of the hybrid cultural cross-identity among which are represented on the roof that gets influence (Javanese, Hindu-Buddhist, Arabic/Islamic); gate (Hindu-Buddhist); maksurah (Arabic); mihrab (Arabic, Chinese); pillars (Javanese, Arabic). This shows that the greatest influence on the building of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa, starting from the earliest development until several centuries later, is the influence of culture from outside.

Abstract

Interiority is not just the science of interior design that meets the needs of function and aesthetics alone. Both of these are indeed the main 'task' in interior design. Each building is design and built to fulfill certain functions. Hotels, apartments, and houses for example, serves as a means of accommodation. Restaurant serves as a commercial building that meets the needs of food. A public building should be accessible and used by a variety of different needs. These buildings must be accessible to those who can see or not (blinds), walkers and wheelchair users, and those who are able to listen or not (deaf/hard of hearing). This paper is study of application of universal design that is accessible of campus buildings that function as container of Tri Dharma of Higher Education activity. The case studies taken in this research are Universitas Mercu Buana in West Jakarta and University of Daegu in South Korea. The study was conducted by studying the universal design of the two universities by considering two parameters, namely universal design and usability, by conducting literature studies and user interviews. From the results of the study it is found that universities in Daegu have made universal design and usability factors an important part of design, while Universitas Mercu Buana in West Jakarta hasn’t yet fully made these two factors as part of the design, with many facilities not being able to accessed and used universally well.

Abstract

The current activities in the Cikondang traditional house which has become a cultural heritage is currently changing in a shift function, but it remains the center of the activities for continuation of ritual events, named Wuku Taun. This celebration must be held in a traditional house as a form of respect for the traditional ancestors. Therefore ,the role of the space in traditional houses is very significant. The activities that take place in the spaces of the Cikondang traditional house have formed an interaction between the user and the territory. Starting from this background, it has several problems; how is the territorial phenomenon that occurs in the rooms of traditional houses during Wuku Taun celebration and what are the elements that affect the territoriality in the spaces, especially at the Wuku Taun celebration. This study aims to determine the elements that form territorial relationships. This research is a descriptive analysis with a phenomenological method that uses the territorial theory approach proposed by Brower. The results showed that the territoriality in the traditional house is seen in the territorial setting where the users of the space still place their respective positions because of the restrictions shown as a defensive mechanism, the indigenous people still follow to the rules of customs that apply as cultural and ritual controls, giving rise to regular territoriality and customs rules which are cultural factors are able to produce their own territorial attitude from the visible activities. In addition, strong social ties between the local and the outside peoples, a high sense of ownership within the indigenous community so that this cultural ritual continues every year in the spaces of the Cikondang traditional house.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between facial physiognomy, body shape, and visualization of animated film character designs. Characterization in an animated film is inseparable from the characters who are placed to fulfill the film’s role. In the creation of physiognomy and body shapes can be combined as an approach to design. The characters are modified through simplifications in the form of cartoons. This is done so that the visualization of the character gets closer to the role added, in addition to emphasizing the characteristics of one character to another. Even in animated films, characters become important elements to direct the understanding of stories. The approach used is interdisciplinary, given that in characters there is a merging of visual elements that need to be approached using different theories. The combination of theories used is personality theory through somatotype to find characters through body shapes, physiognomy from Ar-Razi and ming xiang to obtain character traits and the theory of simplifying shapes into cartoons. The result is a match between the characters played by the three reference elements. The interesting thing that was found was the application of different physiognomy between one character and another to reinforce the characteristics. So that in the film, these figures can represent roles, which are human presentations in real life.
