Abstract

Good, broad, and in-depth mastery of concepts is very necessary to avoid misconceptions which may influence mastery of concepts in subsequent interconnected material. Low understanding of concepts can be seen from the low material completeness scores as found in class XII MIPA MA Negeri 1 Pontianak in two consecutive academic years, especially in the Metabolism material. This research aims to describe students' understanding of concepts and find out concepts that are difficult for class XII MIPA MA Negeri 1 Pontianak students to understand in Metabolism material. This research uses a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample was taken randomly, namely one of three classes XII MIPA at MA Negeri 1 Pontianak in the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 31 individuals. A two-tier diagnostic test instrument in the form of multiple choices is used to test understanding of the concepts of enzymes, catabolism and anabolism which consists of 20 questions. A combination of first and second level answers is used to differentiate between students who understand the concept, misconception type 1, misconception type 2, and do not understand the concept. The test results show that students' understanding of Metabolism material is in the very low category at 74.19%, in the low category 19.35%, in the medium category 6.45%, and in the high and very high categories 0%. The metabolism material that is most difficult for students to understand is the catabolism sub-material with a percentage of not understanding the concept of 50.69%, misconception type 2 41.93%. However, the percentage of misconceptions type 2 and not understanding concepts in the catabolism sub-material is also high at 50.00% and 33.33% respectively. Likewise, in the enzyme sub-material, the percentage of misconception type 2 was 38.24% and 37.32% did not understand the concept.

Abstract

This study explores how lecturers at Tanjungpura University implement case and project-based learning models to strengthen the Merdeka Curriculum. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, data were gathered from 49 lecturers across various faculties through questionnaires and unstructured interviews. Data analysis involved descriptive techniques, with questionnaire results analyzed by frequency and percentage, while interview responses were interpreted qualitatively to identify key themes. Findings indicate that while many lecturers have begun integrating case and project-based learning, the extent of implementation varies significantly among faculties. Significant challenges include a lack of awareness and understanding of these models, insufficient institutional support, and difficulty integrating these methods into theory-heavy or practice-oriented courses. However, factors such as the need to align teaching practices with accreditation standards and the availability of faculty development programs are essential enablers. The study concludes that case and project-based learning hold significant potential for enriching the Merdeka Curriculum, and more structured support and awareness-building initiatives are necessary to realize their full benefits. Recommendations for lecturers include improving competencies through training, collaborating in learning design, and developing evaluation methods. For policymakers, strengthening institutional support, socializing the curriculum, and reviewing policies to integrate case and project-based learning are advised.

Abstract

Print media such as encyclopedia still holds advantages in learning. As learning media, encyclopedias can be employed to convey current issues occurring in society that are broad and highly important. The high prevalence of toddlers with stunting indicates is crucial to be presented comprehensively. Encyclopedia can act as enrichment by discussing material that can broaden students' perspectives and understanding. However, limited encyclopedias have been developed. This research aims to develop an encyclopedia as a learning medium for Growth and Development material in high school. Enrichment with stunting information is aimed not only at increasing students' understanding, but also at supporting government programs related to efforts to reduce national stunting rates. The research and development method applied uses the ADDIE model which is limited to the first three stages (analysis, design, and development). The initial product is tested for suitability in six aspects, namely presentation, graphics, layout, content, language and use by 5 validators. The validity calculation uses the Aiken's V formula and the final value is 0.93. Referring to the minimum validity value for five validators, the encyclopedia that has been developed meets the valid category in all aspects and indicators. It is hoped that further research can be carried out to implement encyclopedias in learning.
