Abstract

This study explores the role of Income-Generating Units (IGUs) in promoting the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools. This study focuses on the mechanism of IGUs' contribution to the financial and educational sustainability of Islamic boarding schools, considering that the existing literature is still limited in discussing this aspect in depth. The main objective of this study is to investigate the strategies and resources that enable Islamic boarding schools to achieve economic independence to support the sustainability of their education. This study uses a qualitative with case study approach in Islamic boarding schools that have developed various mining, fisheries, and agribusiness businesses. Data were collected through interviews, observations, document reviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The data analysis process includes classification, processing, and validation with the help of NVIVO software for effective management and coding of qualitative data. The results show that the economic success of Islamic boarding schools is driven by three main factors: effective resource utilization, strategic partnerships with external parties, and active involvement of students in business activities. This study confirms that IGUs play an important role in ensuring the sustainability of Islamic boarding schools, both in terms of financial independence and the development of student's practical skills, which simultaneously strengthens the competitiveness of Islamic boarding school education.

Abstract

The activity is a seminar for the detection of the characteristics, potential, and talents of children that is part of the strengthening of the school-family partnership. This is a part of an effort to raise awareness among parents of the importance of understanding the child especially in the characteristic, potential and talent that can be a reference in decision-making of the educational processes carried out both in the family and in the school. The implementation of this training is going well even though some audiences need to follow up in understanding and applying the concepts presented by the examiner. As a result of this activity, the seminar participants consisting of the parents of elementary school students in Randegan Wetan Village and some representatives of local primary school teachers were able to emulate the basic theory of detection of characteristics, potential, and children's talents

Abstract

The Joint New Student Admission System (PPDB Bersama) was introduced by Jakarta's Provincial Education Office to expand equitable access to quality education for economically vulnerable students through government-private school collaboration. Despite its equity goals, implementation faces administrative, technical, and organizational challenges. This qualitative case study analyzes policy implementation at three private senior high schools in West Jakarta using Edward III's framework: communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. Data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis involving principals, staff, teachers, and students. Findings reveal that communication remains inconsistent due to fragmented policy dissemination and limited parental understanding; human and technological resources are adequate but constrained by verification procedures and system instability; implementers demonstrate strong commitment to supporting vulnerable students, though the no-transfer policy creates unintended disciplinary issues; and bureaucratic procedures follow official guidelines but are hindered by rigid quotas and limited school-level autonomy. The study concludes that while PPDB Bersama enhances educational equity, its effectiveness requires strengthened socialization, improved cross-agency coordination, flexible resource allocation, and adaptive bureaucratic mechanisms. Strategic recommendations are proposed to optimize policy performance and reinforce private schools' role in achieving equitable and inclusive education in Jakarta.

Abstract

Reading proficiency is a critical component of student success in senior high school and requires structured, ongoing evaluation. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a high school literacy program in enhancing reading proficiency using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. A concurrent embedded mixed-methods approach was employed, with quantitative data as the primary source and qualitative data as complementary. The study involved 57 teachers through surveys, supported by interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data were analyzed descriptively and triangulated using source and method validation. The findings indicate strong alignment of the literacy program with national education policies and the Independent Curriculum. Context and input aspects were rated highly, particularly in curriculum design and policy support. However, gaps remain in teacher competence, availability of literacy facilities, and student motivation. The process evaluation revealed well-structured planning, yet highlighted the need for improved student engagement and more effective learning strategies that foster critical thinking. Product evaluation showed progress in reading comprehension, text analysis, and skill application, though students’ academic vocabulary and communication skills remain underdeveloped. While the literacy program demonstrates positive outcomes, its effectiveness can be enhanced by addressing teacher training, expanding facility access, and incorporating interactive, problem-based learning. The study recommends multiliteracy-focused professional development and suggests future longitudinal research to assess the sustainability and broader impact of literacy interventions across diverse school contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the management of inclusive educational infrastructure in early childhood education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the EDUfa Autism Therapy Center. Using a qualitative case study design, the research investigates how physical learning environments are planned, utilized, and adapted to support children’s sensory, social, and learning needs. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews with therapists, parents, and administrators, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that EDUfa integrates educational and therapeutic functions through sensory-responsive classroom design, transition spaces, and life-skills-oriented facilities. Infrastructure management is characterized by adaptability, collaborative decision-making, and continuous evaluation involving multiple stakeholders. However, financial limitations and shortages of specialized personnel remain significant challenges. The study underscores that effective infrastructure management is central to inclusive, child-centered early childhood education and offers practical insights for institutions seeking to develop inclusive learning environments in resource-constrained contexts.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of kiai (Islamic boarding school leader) leadership on character building of alumni from non-Salafi Islamic boarding schools using a phenomenological approach. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis with six phases of Braun and Clarke, the research involving one alumni participant identified four fundamental mechanisms: transformative learning based on exemplary leadership integrating knowledge transfer and character formation through role modeling, long-term internalization of religious values resistant to contemporary social change, capacity for value adaptation in plural society without compromising basic principles through critical inclusivism, and character sustainability through non-verbal modeling and informal dakwah strategies. Kiai leadership manifests transformational leadership principles uniquely by minimizing verbal rhetoric while maximizing concrete behavioral demonstration, emphasizing moral consistency over personal charisma, and prioritizing internal transformation over external compliance. The formed character is holistic, integrating cognitive dimensions of deep textual understanding, affective dimensions of value internalization, and psychomotor dimensions manifested in consistent social behavior. This research enriches transformational leadership literature by demonstrating that leadership effectiveness is contextual rather than universal, and contributes to character formation theory by identifying specific role modeling mechanisms in intensive learning environments, producing deep and sustainable character transformation.

Abstract

Background. This study addresses the need for effective management of inclusive educational infrastructure for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While inclusive education research has largely focused on pedagogy and instructional practices, there has been limited attention paid to infrastructure management as a central component of inclusive educational governance, particularly in early childhood settings. Appropriate infrastructure is essential for supporting both learning and therapeutic processes for children with ASD. Method. This research employed a qualitative case study design at the EDUfa Autism Therapy Center. Data were collected through systematic observations, in-depth interviews with therapists, parents, and administrative staff, and document analysis. This approach enabled a contextual understanding of how inclusive infrastructure is planned, utilized, and managed within an integrated educational therapeutic environment. Result. The findings show that EDUfa’s infrastructure, such as calming therapy rooms, flexible learning spaces, sensory transition zones, and educational toilets, is intentionally designed to accommodate the sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of children with ASD. Infrastructure management practices are characterized by responsiveness, adaptability, and collaborative stakeholder involvement in planning and evaluation. Simple innovations, such as daily facility condition reports and low-tech monitoring systems, support the sustainability and functionality of facilities. Conclusion. The study concludes that inclusive educational infrastructure management extends beyond technical operations to reflect inclusive educational values. Theoretically, it contributes to inclusive educational management by positioning infrastructure as an active managerial element in inclusive early childhood education. Practically, the EDUfa model offers replicable strategies for creating responsive, child-centered learning environments.

Abstract

This study examines the combined influence of instructional leadership and collegial supervision on teacher performance, addressing the need for a comprehensive approach that integrates managerial direction with peer-based collaboration. Using a quantitative survey of 300 teachers from 51 public elementary schools in Purwakarta Regency, Indonesia, data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling. The findings show that both instructional leadership and collegial supervision significantly and positively affect teacher performance, jointly explaining 18.1 percent of its variance. Collegial supervision was also found to mediate 34.6 percent of the effect of instructional leadership, highlighting its crucial bridging role. The integrated supervision model demonstrated consistent robustness across urban and rural school contexts. The study concludes that combining instructional leadership with collegial supervision creates a synergistic effect that enhances teacher performance more effectively than implementing either approach independently, offering valuable guidance for improving supervision practices in elementary schools.

Abstract

Strengthening the quality of learning requires urgent improvements in teachers' pedagogical competence. Schools have developed Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) as collaborative learning forums to support continuous teacher development. However, limited studies have examined PLC implementation using a strategic management perspective. This study aims to formulate effective PLC implementation strategies to improve teachers' pedagogical competence at an Islamic Elementary School. A qualitative case study approach with a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods design was employed, using data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and supported by a SWOT analysis and Critical Success Factors (CSFs). The findings reveal key internal strengths, including strong teacher collaboration, an open organizational culture, and ICT support, as well as external opportunities derived from the Merdeka Curriculum policy and foundation support. The SWOT–CSF integration identified three priority strategies with the highest relevance scores: mentoring and knowledge transfer, open impact reporting, and ICT-based training material curation. This study contributes a data-driven strategic framework for PLC implementation, offering both theoretical and practical implications for strengthening teachers' pedagogical competence in primary school contexts.
