Abstract

Pesantren as traditional Islamic educational institutions, are increasingly challenged to balance the preservation of religious values with technological adaptation in the era of Society 5.0. This study investigates how pesantren in Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra, implement digital educational innovations while maintaining their core identity. Guided by the central question—how do pesantren integrate technological advancements into their educational practices without compromising their traditional foundations? this research adopts a narrative-based grounded theory approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and document analysis in six selected pesantren. Findings reveal three key areas of innovation: integration of the national and pesantren curricula, incorporation of digital technologies into the learning process, and the development of extracurricular programs tailored to students’ talents and interests. Some pesantren have established specialized units such as the Diniyyah Research Center and Diniyyah Robotic, introduced native speakers in language programs, and facilitated research, literacy, and tech-based learning activities. These developments reflect not only adaptive capacity but also the emergence of a contextual and forward-looking Islamic education model. The study contributes to a nuanced understanding of how pesantren navigate transformation while upholding their educational and spiritual heritage in response to 21st-century demands.

Abstract

In the digital era, teachers must not only master technology but also develop strong strong information literacy to support thoughtful, responsible, and contextually relevant pedagogical practices. This study aims to identify comprehensive strategies to enhance teachers’ information literacy as part of their professional development. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), ten empirical studies published within the past five years were selected from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, employing the PRISMA protocol and Boolean search techniques. Thematic analysis revealed five key strategies: integrating digital media into teaching, providing professional development programs, fostering collaborative learning communities, promoting innovative and reflective information use, and strengthening policy support. These strategies collectively foster teachers’ ability to think reflectively, act responsibly in information use, and apply contextually grounded pedagogical approaches in their classrooms. The study concludes that improving teachers’ information literacy requires a multidimensional approach that combines pedagogical innovation, continuous digital training, and institutional backing. The proposed framework offers practical insights for schools, policymakers, and teacher educators in designing adaptive, sustainable, and context-sensitive models for teacher professional growth in the digital age.

Abstract

Implementing the management of madrasah change starts from an authentic leadership. Authentic leadership is the identity of ahead of madrasah in developing a value-based educational system. His identity is seen from his sincerity in working, his kindness in treating people, and the sharpness of his mind in determining the future of the organization. The authentic leadership of madrasah should represent the identity of Muslim morality with work orientation on the sincerity of being a STAF+B (Siddiq, Tablig, Amanah, Fathonah + Brave) leader. Leading the madrasah in the context of implementing management of change is not enough to be pious but it requires courage to take strategic and innovative decisions in realizing a qualified madrasah. This research aims to find an authentic leadership strategy model for the management of change by the head of the madrasah. The research was conducted on the head of the madrasah in Pangandaran Regency. The results show that the application of authentic leadership can build madrasah changes by empowering the Professional Learning Community (PLC) in which 4CS strategy is implemented in a reciprocal (cumsuis-Casing, Communicating, Competencies, Contribution, Sample). The followers can identify who the authentic leader is by finding the integrity of identity that represents in: his mind is vision; his heart is good and his legs work hard.

Abstract

School Management Model Based on Community Participation HARMONY Approach to Improving School Quality. Objective: This study aims to develop and implement a school management model based on community participation using the HARMONY approach to improve the quality of secondary schools in Kepulauan Meranti Regency. The research seeks to assess the effectiveness of this model in enhancing school quality through comprehensive community involvement. Methods: The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal and vice principal of SMPN 1 Tebing Tinggi Barat and SMPN 2 Tebing Tinggi. Quantitative data were gathered through surveys involving various school stakeholders, such as teachers, students, and parents. Findings: The study’s results demonstrate that the implementation of a community participation-based school management model using the HARMONY approach significantly improves the quality of education in secondary schools in Kepulauan Meranti Regency. Data analysis reveals that effective school management has a significant impact on school quality, with a coefficient of 0.576. Community participation also shows a significant influence with a coefficient of 0.173. However, organizational culture does not significantly affect school quality and does not function as a strong mediator in the relationship between school management and community participation. Conclusion: The HARMONY approach standing for Holistic, Accountable, Responsive, Independent, Optimal, Normative, and Inclusive provides an innovative framework for integrating community participation into school management. This approach has the potential to enhance educational quality, especially in remote areas. The findings suggest that community-based school management is a viable solution for improving school performance in underdeveloped regions. Keywords: community participation, HARMONI approach, islands regency meranti, quality of education, school management.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202487

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the character education program in improving student character at SMPK BPK Penabur Bandung. Character education is an important aspect in shaping students' positive personality and behavior. SMPK BPK PENABUR Bandung, as one of the leading schools, has implemented a character education program, but there has been no comprehensive evaluation of its effectiveness. This study was conducted to evaluate the character education program at SMPK BPK PENABUR Bandung in improving student character, so that it can provide valuable insights for the development of similar programs in the future. This study uses a qualitative approach to gain an in- depth understanding of the implementation and impact of the character education program at the school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, students and school administrators, direct observation of character education activities and analysis of related documents. The focus of the research includes the planning, implementation and evaluation processes of the program, as well as the observed changes in student character. The results show that SMPK BPK Penabur Bandung has implemented a character education program systematically and integrated in the curriculum. The program includes various activities such as learning character values in subjects, mentoring programs, character-based extracurricular activities, and parental involvement. Key findings indicate significant improvements in aspects of student character, including honesty, responsibility, discipline and social care. However, some challenges were also identified, such as consistency in the application of character values outside the school environment and differences in perceptions between schools and parents regarding character education methods. This study concludes that the character education program at SMPK BPK Penabur Bandung is effective in improving students' character, although there is still room for improvement. Recommendations include increasing collaboration with parents, developing more comprehensive character evaluation methods, and strengthening the integration of character values in students' daily lives outside of school.

Abstract

This research examines the role of LMX in improving teacher creativity conducted by principals by using LMX theory. This research studies whether the principals show their maximal role in LMX and participate, empower, and collaborate with teachers to improve and increase school quality. So far, there are no apparent effects of LMX on teacher creativity. We try to examine the relationship between creativity and the role of LMX as a source of relations for teachers. The data were collected from 165 teachers and 19 principals in the Education Office in Bandung City, Indonesia. The statistical analysis used in this study is Partial Least Square (PLS) with smartPLS 3.0 software. We found out that LMX still has adverse effects when the principals have regulated and limited their participation, empowerment, and collaboration in LMX, so they have obstacles in showing their creativity. Through this research, we expect that the LMX practices based on professional effect, loyalty, contribution, and respect will greatly benefit teacher creativity; thus, principals must improve their communication and setting of shared works. Results of this research propose that friendship, mutual shares with good interpersonal communication, participation, empowerment, and collaboration are important aspects for principals to stimulate creativity.
