Abstract

The history of Islamic civilization in Indonesia during the Old Order period (1945-1966) is very important to study, because at that time Indonesian figures began to try to improve the form of national and state order, especially in education. This paper aims to understand three things, firstly the conception of the ideological form of Islamic religious education. Second, the form factor of the ideology of Islamic religious education. Third, the implication of the form of ideology of Islamic religious education. This type of research is library research using primary and secondary data sources from journals that have been selected and are relevant to the title. The most important findings in research on the history of Islamic civilization during the Old Order era include three things. First, the development of the ideology of Islamic education has experienced ups and downs in the educational process. Second, Islamic education policies in Islamic boarding schools, madrasas or other institutions provide a forum for the community to carry out education without discriminatory policy behavior. Third, religious teaching materials in practice have not been fully implemented, on the grounds that Indonesia is not an Islamic country and the political instability of the conflict between nationalists and Islamists has a direct impact on the journey of education; As a result, the implementation of religious education is underestimated by the government. So that pesantren and madrasa could not become national education at that time. The contribution of this research can provide new insights about flexibility and progressiveness for the development of Islamic education.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah, a modernist Islamic movement in Indonesia, is often narrowly understood in both academic and public discourse as rejecting art. However, its official decisions actually build a positive theological foundation for art. This study examines how the 27th National Tarjih Congress Decision on Guidance for Islamic Art and Culture employs the Qur'an and ḥadīth to construct a constructive theology of art. Using a library-based qualitative approach with content analysis of the Tarjih document and al-Fārūqī's tawḥīdic aesthetics as a framework, this research finds that the decision constructs such a theology through five pillars: fiṭrah; reinterpretation of ḥadīths via 'illat al-ḥukm; Sufi values through iḥsān; a cultural strategy balancing purification and accommodation; and Al-Mā'ūn's social concern—challenging the narrow view of Muhammadiyah as anti-art. The decision thus formulates a theology of art that not only permits art legally but also positions it as part of Muslims' spiritual and social mission. This research offers a new reading of an official Muhammadiyah document and a theoretical framework for analyzing theology of art in contemporary Islam.

Abstract

The integration of monotheistic values (tawhid) into science lessons for Islamic elementary school students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) continues to attract academic attention because it reflects a long-standing tension in Islamic education between religious and scientific modes of knowledge. Using a literature review method, this study aims to identify the forms or paradigms in which monotheistic values are integrated into science teaching, the internal and external factors that shape this integration, and its constructive and problematic implications for students. The study found that integration typically takes three forms: building a monotheistic paradigm for understanding nature and science, developing a monotheistic-oriented science learning model, and developing students who are faithful, knowledgeable, and responsible. Internally, integration is shaped by students' motivation, readiness to learn, and belief in monotheism. Externally, integration is shaped by prevailing societal views that separate science from religion, demands for character-based quality education, and the involvement of schools, families, and communities. When integration is implemented proportionally and based on sound pedagogy, it strengthens faith, arouses interest in science, and fosters gratitude and responsibility. However, if teachers are not well prepared or integration is forced without conceptual depth, it risks creating confusion or a shallow understanding of scientific concepts. The study concludes that realizing the pedagogical potential of this integration requires a balanced and developmentally appropriate approach, grounded in a sound understanding of science and monotheism..
