Abstract

The art of poetry is one of the unique cultural heritages of the people of Menggala Regency. Initially, this oral tradition of art was a form of expression of someone's feelings which was processed in the form of artistic performances. Poetry art thrives in various areas of Lampung, including Krui, South Lampung, Tanggamus, Central Lampung and North Lampung. Each region has its own unique rhythm. Poetry is a form of literature that is conveyed orally, usually through speech or live performance. The content of the poetry can be in the form of advice, criticism, aspirations, or expressions of joy. This research was carried out because proficiency in the art of such poetry is very rare. The aim of this research is to revive people's skills regarding the art of poetry which has almost become extinct. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation and literature study. The results of the research show that the oral tradition of poetry functions as an artistic and cultural medium that connects the older generation with the younger generation or between society and the government to convey aspirations, suggestions, criticism or expressions of happiness. Several efforts have been made to preserve, utilize and develop this poetry art through schools, galleries and traditional art festivals.

Abstract

Globalization has contributed to a decline in children's familiarity with local languages and cultures. This situation calls for educational strategies that preserve local heritage while fostering early multilingual skills. This study explores the meaning and implementation of the Sarigabah (One Day, Three Languages) program at SDN 1 Mangkujayan as a cultural preservation and multilingual education effort. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving three teachers and six students. The findings show that Sarigabah integrates the use of Indonesian, Javanese, and English within a single school day according to a set schedule. The inclusion of Reog Ponorogo traditional attire enhances cultural values. Teachers and students actively participate, show pride, and develop greater confidence in using both local and foreign languages. The program fosters a culturally rich, multilingual learning environment. Thus, Sarigabah is an effective model of local wisdom-based education to address global challenges.

Abstract

Culture is a representation that reflects the character and identity of a community. One of the traditions that continues to exist amid the strong influence of modernization is Begawi Cakak Pepadun, a customary ceremony distinctive to the Lampung Pepadun people, particularly in the Tulang Bawang Barat region. This tradition is not merely a ritual to inaugurate a penyimbang (traditional leader) or to bestow an honorary title, but it also embodies noble values such as mutual cooperation (sakai sambaian), Piil Pesenggiri (dignity and honor), and social responsibility toward the community. This study aims to (1) describe the implementation of the Begawi Cakak Pepadun tradition in Tulang Bawang Barat, and (2) analyze this cultural practice from a postcolonial perspective to understand how indigenous communities preserve their traditions amid colonial legacies, modernization, and globalization. The findings reveal that the implementation of Begawi consists of several main stages, namely preparation, manjau and ngedio, cangget (celebratory night), turun mandei, and cakak pepadun. Each stage holds symbolic meanings that represent togetherness and respect for ancestors. From a postcolonial perspective, Begawi Cakak Pepadun can be seen as a form of cultural resistance against colonial influence and as a process of reclaiming local identity. Although modernization has introduced changes such as the use of technology and adjustments in the duration of the ceremony, the Lampung people continue to preserve the spiritual and social essence of the tradition through mutual cooperation, cultural education for the younger generation, and the strengthening of customary institutions. Thus, Begawi is not merely a relic of the past but also a symbol of cultural continuity and resistance against global domination.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the Buharak tradition among the Lampung Saibatin community as a form of cultural preservation in the Lampung Pesisir region. Buharak is a wedding procession held after the marriage ceremony with the aim of introducing the couple to the community while affirming the honor of the family and social status in the Saibatin customary system. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interview techniques, participatory observation, and documentation studies of traditional leaders, ritual performers, and coastal communities. Data analysis is carried out through a thematic approach with stages of reduction, categorization, and interpretation of meaning. The results show that Buharak has three main functions: as a social glue that strengthens community solidarity and mutual cooperation (sakai sambayan); as a marker of status and customary legitimacy that reflects the hierarchical social structure of the Saibatin community; and as an arena for negotiating modernity, where the younger generation and religious leaders adapt traditional practices to align with Islamic norms and current socio-economic conditions. This adaptation is evident in the simplification of the duration of the procession, reduction of costs, integration of religious elements, and digital documentation that expands the scope of cultural preservation.

Abstract

Indonesia is a nation with a rich diversity of cultures, due to its hundreds of millions of inhabitants from various ethnic groups spread from Sabang to Merauke. This is in line with Maulida's opinion that Indonesian culture is a combination of various local cultures found in every region of Indonesia. This culture continues to evolve over time, influenced by the community's desire for change and adaptation in cultural aspects.Culture is an important element that binds individuals in society, encompassing various systems such as beliefs and traditions. Indonesia, with its cultural diversity, has many traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. One example is the Ngelemang tradition in Lampung, which is the process of cooking lemang, a traditional food made from sticky rice. In this study, qualitative and ethnographic methods were used to understand the essence and preservation of this tradition. Ngelemang is not just a cooking activity, but also a means of strengthening social interaction and communal identity. Preservation strategies involve the active role of the younger generation, who are expected to not only be successors but also promoters through digital media, so that this tradition remains alive and relevant in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the maxim of quantity in the character dialogue in the short film Limau Tahluy which is broadcast on the YouTube channel. The maxim of quantity is one of Grice's cooperative principles that applies so that speakers provide sufficient, clear and appropriate information, without excess or deficiency. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through the method of free listening and conversation (SBLC). The data are in the form of character speech in the film that shows compliance and violation of the maxim of quantity. The results show that the dialogue in the film Limau Tahluy shows two forms of the application of the maxim of quantity, namely compliance and violation. Compliance occurs when the speaker provides relevant and sufficient information, while violation occurs when the information conveyed is too little, excessive, or irrelevant. These violations do not always have a negative impact, because they are often used to express emotions, familiarity, and character of the characters. Overall, the application of the maxim of quantity in the film Limau Tahluy shows the polite, expressive, and contextual way of communication of the Lampung people in accordance with local cultural values. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan maksim kuantitas dalam dialok karakter pada film pendek Limau Tahluy yang di tayangkan di saluran YouTube.
