Abstract

Fisheries production in Indonesia will reach 24.74 million tonnes in 2023 and will increase compared to 2022 which was only 22.26 million tonnes. Increased production is in line with increased consumption which cannot be separated from food safety problems, especially the problem of heavy metal contamination originating from domestic waste and factory waste. The purpose of this review article is to provide information for knowledge and awareness to the public regarding the fish they consume. This review was carried out using searches via Google Scholar and Researchgate published in the last 10 years (2014-2024). The total articles used were 11 scientific articles. The research results show that there is heavy metal contamination such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, copper, manganese, chrome, cobalt, argentum, zinc and tin at different levels in each location. The most heavy metal contamination is lead (Pb) with the highest level of 4,242 mg/kg in tilapia fish in the Tenggang River, Semarang at the location of the first testing station, namely the upstream area with coordinates 6°57'49.8"S and 110° 27’04.6”E. In conclusion, the pollution is thought to be due to contamination of the environment because there is a Small Industrial Environment (LIK) and a lot of rubbish is drifting along the river. The suggestion is that it is necessary to enforce waste management regulations and effective supervision for the sake of public health and environmental safety, especially regarding industrial waste.

Abstract

Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye used in the paper and textile industries, attracting attention due to its potential health hazards. It is used in various cosmetic products, although the Regulation of the Minister of Health of Indonesia No. 445/MENKES/PER/V/1998 prohibits its use in cosmetics due to risks of irritation, liver damage, and cancer. This article reviews the parameters of analytical methods for identifying Rhodamine B in lipstick. A narrative review was conducted using Google Scholar as a database over the past 10 years. The KLT method was found to be more widely used than HPLC or UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. Differences in Rf values in KLT are due to variations in the stationary phase. Parameter variations in HPLC system suitability tests are caused by operational conditions, sample conditions, and instrument performance. Analytical methods for identifying Rhodamine B in lipstick include KLT, HPLC/KCKT, and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. It is concluded that each method has specific parameters that must be met: KLT is qualified if the Rf value comparison (standard vs. sample) is ≤ 0.2; HPLC/KCKT requires system suitability and validation tests; UV-Vis Spectrophotometry needs validation test parameters. KLT is preferred due to easy sample preparation and lower costs compared to HPLC and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. It is recommended to consider necessary components when using these methods to maximize test results.

Abstract

Infection or tissue injury induces inflammation, which causes pain. Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used anti-inflammatory agents but can cause adverse effects on the stomach, kidneys, and liver when used long-term. As a result, efforts have been made to discover new drugs from natural sources to minimize these risks. With advances in technology, the search for new drug candidates using computational modeling, such as molecular docking, has become increasingly common. The aim of this systematic literature review is to predict and evaluate the potential of natural compounds as anti-inflammatory agents through in silico analysis. A systematic literature review of 10 recent articles, selected from an initial 376 articles on the topic of natural plant compounds' anti-inflammatory potential in silico, published between 2020 and 2023, was conducted using the PubMed and Springer databases. The conclusion from the review of the structural analysis of secondary plant metabolites shows that all 45 compounds tested demonstrated the ability to interact with the COX-2 enzyme, which plays a key role in inflammation and pain. Among these compounds, catechin, a member of the flavonoid group, was identified as the best candidate based on in silico analysis.

Abstract

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, so the development of effective drugs is urgently needed. This study aims to identify potential chemical compounds as lung cancer drug candidates through molecular docking analysis. This study used a narrative literature review method with data collected from PubMed using specific keywords such as "Molecular docking," "Lung cancer," "Drug candidate," "Chemistry," and "Compound" for articles published between 2019 and 2024. Inclusion criteria included studies that analyzed chemical compounds as lung cancer drug candidates using molecular docking and met certain quantitative criteria. Of the initial 123 articles, 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The results showed significant interactions between several chemical compounds and lung cancer-related protein targets such as P-glycoprotein, NEK7, EGFR, VEGFR-2, and topoisomerase II, with high binding affinity. Overall, the results of this review highlight compound 762, SIQ17, and compound 7 as lead candidates with high therapeutic potential, which deserve further development through in vitro and in vivo tests to support their application in lung cancer therapy.
