Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of leadership and governance in Islamic education institutions, with a particular focus on how strategic planning is implemented and the challenges encountered in sustaining value-based education. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing a multiple-case study approach across four Islamic education institutions in Indonesia, including two pesantren and two Islamic universities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 28 institutional leaders, document analysis of strategic plans and governance frameworks, and non-participant observation of institutional practices. Thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s six-phase protocol was used to analyze the data. The findings reveal three main themes: (1) the centrality of spiritual leadership in shaping governance structures that align with Islamic values; (2) the tensions between modernization demands and the preservation of traditional educational values; and (3) the role of participatory governance mechanisms in mediating stakeholder interests during strategic planning processes. The study concludes that effective leadership in Islamic education institutions requires an integrative approach that harmonizes Islamic ethical principles with contemporary management practices. This research contributes to the understanding of how value-based governance frameworks can be operationalized within Islamic educational contexts, offering practical implications for institutional leaders and policymakers.

Abstract

This study analyzes the principal's leadership management in enhancing students' emotional intelligence (EQ) at MTs Darunnajah. Emotional intelligence is a crucial aspect of education, contributing to academic achievement, social skills, and character building. In Islamic education, EQ is a foundation for developing morally upright individuals capable of facing academic and social challenges. The researcher employed a qualitative descriptive approach and collected data through in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers, students, and parents, supported by observation and documentation of school activities. They analyzed the data using thematic coding, applied source triangulation, and validated the findings through member checking to ensure credibility. The study found that the principal developed students' EQ through four core managerial functions: planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. The principal created systematic planning that provided clear direction for school programs and organized collaborative efforts among teachers to integrate character values into every lesson. The implementation aligned with the school's vision and mission by emphasizing character-based learning and empathy-building activities. The principal also supervised the process to evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary improvements. In addition to leadership management, internal factors such as emotional regulation and self-motivation contributed to students' EQ development. In contrast, external factors included parental support, teacher role modeling, and an inclusive school climate. In conclusion, the principal's effective and collaborative leadership fostered a supportive learning environment that enhanced students' EQ. Sustainable development of emotional intelligence requires continuous synergy among principals, teachers, and parents.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study examines the determinants of artificial intelligence and learning management system adoption among lecturers and students in Islamic Educational Management programmes at Indonesian Islamic higher education institutions, with Islamic Work Ethic and Theological Trust positioned as direct predictors of behavioural intention. Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional survey was administered to 385 respondents drawn from twelve Islamic higher education institutions across five Indonesian regions. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling in SmartPLS 4.0, and a Multi-Group Analysis compared lecturers and students after a Measurement Invariance of Composite Models procedure. Main Findings: Performance Expectancy (β = 0.287), Islamic Work Ethic (β = 0.224), Social Influence (β = 0.198), and Theological Trust (β = 0.176) significantly predicted Behavioural Intention, explaining 61.3 percent of its variance. Effort Expectancy was non-significant. Behavioural Intention (β = 0.418) and Facilitating Conditions (β = 0.312) jointly predicted Use Behaviour, explaining 48.9 percent of its variance. The Multi-Group Analysis revealed stronger Performance Expectancy effects among lecturers and stronger Social Influence effects among students. Novelty/Originality of this study: PThis study provides empirical evidence that Islamic Work Ethic functions as a direct predictor rather than a moderator of technology adoption intention in Indonesian Islamic higher education, and it introduces Theological Trust as a construct that captures user concerns about the doctrinal accuracy of artificial intelligence outputs in Islamic content. These extensions are interpreted through entrepreneurial leadership as a guiding lens that links innovation, stakeholder mobilization, and risk assessment in faith-based educational institutions.

Abstract

The integration of digital leadership in the higher education ecosystem is a fundamental prerequisite for strengthening data-driven instructional decision-making. This study aims to explore the optimization of the role of digital leadership in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven strategies to improve pedagogical effectiveness and learning outcomes. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, participatory observation, and documentation analysis of academic leaders, educators, and educational technology specialists as key informants. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques through a process of data reduction, categorization, and iterative conclusion drawing. The results show that effective digital leadership requires leaders to act as mediators between the technological and pedagogical dimensions, going beyond mere technical mastery. The success of integration depends on a systematic, step-by-step approach and the continuous strengthening of educators' digital competencies, despite the challenges of the digital divide and institutional resistance. This study concludes that digital transformation requires a holistic approach that includes strengthening infrastructure, continuous professional development, and equitable accessibility strategies.
