Abstract

The integration of Islamic values into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction has gained renewed attention in recent years, particularly as educators seek approaches that balance global communicative competence with moral and spiritual development. This study employs a qualitative narrative library research design to analyse scholarly works published between 2020 and 2025 that address the incorporation of Islamic principles within EFL curriculum and pedagogy. The reviewed literature reveals three overarching themes: (1) the philosophical foundations of Islamic education, which emphasize the inseparability of knowledge, adab, and ethical formation; (2) emerging pedagogical efforts to embed Islamic values through discourse, material selection, classroom interaction, and digital media; and (3) persistent gaps in curriculum-level frameworks, as most studies remain focused on teacher practices rather than systematic institutional design. Findings indicate that value-integrated EFL instruction is conceptually robust and pedagogically feasible. Yet, its implementation remains fragmented due to limited teacher preparation, insufficient instructional resources, and the absence of coherent curricular models. This study concludes that developing structured, context-sensitive frameworks is essential for ensuring that EFL curricula harmonize linguistic objectives with Islamic moral orientations. Implications are offered for curriculum developers, educators, and institutions seeking to create value-integrated EFL programs that support both communicative proficiency and ethical character formation.

Abstract

This study examined the experiences of novice English teachers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesian public school. Using a qualitative method through case study approach, data were collected from three early-career English teachers through interviews and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed three key themes: implementation challenges, support systems, and effective teaching techniques. Teachers faced obstacles such as limited technical skills, inadequate facilities, and passive student behavior. However, they adapted by modifying tasks, using multimedia, grouping students flexibly, and using assessments to plan lessons. Support came mainly from digital platforms and peer groups, while formal mentoring was lacking. The study concludes that successful curriculum implementation requires strong institutional support, sufficient infrastructure, and teacher readiness. These insights provide practical guidance for new teachers facing curriculum reform.

Abstract

Mastering vocabulary is indispensable for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, as it underpins all language skills. However, many students continue to face difficulties in retaining and applying new vocabulary effectively. Prior studies have explored various strategies, yet few have examined the effect of engaging, student-centered techniques such as ice-breaking activities on vocabulary mastery among twelfth-grade EFL students at SMA NU Palangka Raya. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the researcher involved one experimental group and one control group, each undergoing pre-tests and post-tests to assess vocabulary mastery. The results showed that students in the experimental group demonstrated greater improvement than those in the control group, with post-test mean scores of 84.17 and 69.62, respectively (t(23) = 3.884, p < .001), indicating a statistically significant difference. These findings highlight the potential of ice-breaking activities to enhance vocabulary mastery by increasing student motivation, reducing anxiety, and encouraging active participation in learning. The study has important implications for educational practice, suggesting that ice-breaking activities should be integrated into regular EFL instruction as a pedagogical strategy rather than merely as warm-up exercises. Furthermore, these findings can inform teacher training programs and curriculum development policies aimed at creating more engaging and effective language learning environments in Indonesian secondary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of visual documentation and reflection in English language learning materials.“Feelings”in elementary school students. The background of the study stems from the need for emotional vocabulary learning that not only supports language skills but also the development of children's emotional intelligence. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach involving one class of elementary school students through observation, visual documentation, and reflection notes. Data analysis was conducted using Thematic Analysis. The results showed that the use of visual media such as photos, videos, and vocabulary cards can improve students' understanding of emotional vocabulary and strengthen their engagement in learning activities. The percentage of student engagement reached 55.6 percent in the high category, and vocabulary mastery increased significantly from 30 percent to 82 percent after the activity. Students' emotional responses also developed, as seen from the increase in their ability to express emotions spontaneously from 22 percent to 74 percent. However, the study found several challenges such as the short learning duration, differences in ability between students, and technical difficulties during documentation. In conclusion, the integration of visual documentation and reflection is an effective approach to improving emotional vocabulary learning in elementary school students. This method is able to create contextual, multimodal learning and supports students' linguistic and emotional development. This research recommends the development of more varied visual media, longer learning durations, and the use of visual portfolios as part of learning evaluation.
