Abstract

Keywords: indeks DMF-T, karies, konsumsi air, timbal ABSTRACTBackground: Caries is an infectious disease affecting a tooth’s hard tissues. It is a multifactorial disease, initiated by the interaction of host, microorganisms/agents, substrates, and time. One of the most pathogenic agents is Lactobacillus sp. This agent is mostly found in active lesions of caries, can produce lactate acid and is an acidic-environment tolerant organism. Lead exposure is also a factor that can worsen caries. Lead is a calcium-antagonist and can hamper the metabolism of calcium in remineralization of tooth. Lead can precipitate into drinking water after being crystallized in the air, assisted by rain. This exposure is especially worrying to the community which still depends on unfiltered water from the river to fulfill their daily needs. Purpose: This study was proposed to identify Lactobacillus sp. colony in caries-affected children and assess the difference between river water consuming and well-water consuming children. Methods: This was an observational analytics with control group design study using cross sectional approach, performed in SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Pinang Kabupaten Banjar, November-December 2017. The population was 60 students, categorized into two groups (30 students each): river water consuming and well-water consuming groups. The samples’ DMF-T indexes and teeth swab samples were recorded for analysis. The swab samples were then delivered to laboratories to be treated by staining and using Huccer methods to assess the Lactobacillus sp. colony. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between colony count of Lactobacillus sp. and DMT-index in both river water consuming and well-water consuming children.  Keywords: caries, DMF-T index, lead, water consumption

Abstract

ABSTRACT Household food consumption in Indonesia continues to be dominated by carbohydrate-based staples, while the intake of protein-rich foods remains relatively low despite their importance for achieving adequate nutritional quality. Differences in food prices, household expenditure, and demographic characteristics contribute to varying levels of access to nutritious foods across Indonesian provinces, shaping diverse demand behaviors for carbohydrate- and protein-rich commodities. Although numerous studies in Indonesia have applied demand system approaches such as AIDS to analyze food consumption, existing evidence remains varied in focus and scope, underscoring the need to understand how nutritional demand has been examined across different contexts. This study aims to identify factors that influence food demand systems in Indonesia, with a specific focus on commodities that serve as primary sources of carbohydrates and protein. It seeks to map how previous research has conceptualized and analyzed key determinants of nutritional demand to provide a clearer foundation for further empirical investigation. A narrative literature review with a structured search strategy was conducted to gather Indonesian studies examining household food consumption demand. Searches were carried out across major academic sources using predefined keywords related to food demand, consumption behavior, and economic determinants. Relevant articles were screened based on their analytical focus and methodological approaches, and the final selection was examined comparatively to identify recurring frameworks and determinants influencing nutrient-based food demand. The review found that food demand for carbohydrate- and protein-rich commodities in Indonesia is consistently shaped by prices, household expenditure, and demographic characteristics. The examined studies also indicated variations in responsiveness to economic factors across commodity groups, highlighting notable differences in the sensitivity of carbohydrate staples compared to protein sources. These patterns reveal a set of determinants repeatedly emphasized in the literature, signaling their relevance for guiding subsequent empirical modeling of nutritional food demand. Keywords: Food Consumption Demand, Nutritional Demand System, Carbohydrate and Protein Commodities, Household Economic Determinants.

Abstract

Background: Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] is the gold standard material in pulp capping treatment due to reparative dentin formation and antibacterial. However, Ca(OH)2 deficiency forms reparative dentin with tunnel defects and is easily soluble in water and acid. Mauli banana stem extract (MBSE) functions as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and is expected to form better reparative dentin. The combination of Ca(OH)2 and MBSE is assumed to be able to improve the physical properties of Ca(OH)2. Purpose: to analyze the effect of 50% MBSE+ Ca(OH)2 combination on solubility and water absorption as a pulp capping material. Methods: The group were combination of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG (1.5:1:0.375), (1:1.5:0.375) and  Ca(OH)2 + aquadest (1:1). Each group consisted of 5 samples with 6 groups and 2 tests, a total of 60 samples with dimensions of 15 mm x 1 mm. Samples were measured for solubility and water absorption ability by weighing before and after dissolving in 50 mL of artificial saliva for 24 hours, drying, incubating, and weighing a second time. The result of the mass reduction divided by the volume of the sample was considered as the solubility and water absorption rate in 1 and 7 days. The data was analyzed using One Way Anova with significant difference <0.05. Results: The solubility of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG at (1.5:1:0.375) and (1:1.5:0.375)was lower than Ca(OH)2+aquadest (1:1) after immersion for 1 day and 7 day. The water absorption of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG (1.5:1:0.375) was not different from Ca(OH)2+aquadest (1:1) after immersion  for 1 day, but higher in 7 day (p<0,05). Conclusion: The solubility of the MBSE-Ca(OH) combination is lower than Ca(OH)2 alone, the water absorption of the MBSE- Ca(OH)2 combination is higher than that of Ca(OH)2 alone.

Abstract

Background: The high rate of tooth loss increases the demand for the fabrication of dentures, both fixed dental prostheses (FDP) and removable dental prostheses (RDP). Anterior tooth loss causes aesthetic and phonetic disturbances, so rehabilitation using a denture is needed. In aesthetics, color is one of the things that need to be considered, if the color of the resulting denture is not suitable, it will result in dissatisfaction. Color accuracy depends on effective communication between dentists and dental technicians. Research by Natassa J & Ayuningsih R stated that there were 51.7% of dentists who were dissatisfied with laboratory made results. Lack of communication can lead to dissatisfaction with the results of a fixed dental prostheses. Purpose: Knowing the relationship between dental technician communication and dentist satisfaction with denture color. Methods: This study used an analytic observational design with a cross sectional approach. The samples in this study were 40 dentists in the Banjarmasin area and 7 laboratories where dentures were made by Banjarmasin dentists selected using simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires. Data analysis using the Spearman correlation test. Results: The results of data analysis using the Spearman correlation test produced data with a significance value of 0.00 (?<0.05). The correlation coefficient value in the study was found to be 0.523, indicating a significant relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship with a moderately strong relationship between the communication of dentists and dental technicians with dentists satisfaction with the color of dentures in Banjarmasin. Keywords: communication, dentist satisfaction, dental technician, dentist, fixed denture color

Abstract

Effective management is essential for health centers to ensure that health service standards are met through proper planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation. One method to assess service quality at Community Health Centers is the Health Center Performance Assessment, which evaluates activity coverage, service quality, and management. Given the crucial role of management in improving health service quality, the implementation of health center management practices is critical. This study explores the obstacles to effective health center management in Tabalong District. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), observations, and documentation involving 15 informants from the District Health Office and several health centers. Despite efforts to adhere to Minister of Health Regulations No. 6/2016 and No. 19/2020, several challenges persist, including non-functional SMD–MMD activities and mini-workshops that do not follow established guidelines. Additional barriers include limited human resources, budget constraints, incomplete standard operating procedures (SOPs), and fragmented information systems. In conclusion, the implementation of health center management has not been fully optimal, resulting in service quality that has yet to meet expected standards.
