Abstract

The use of tote bags among teenagers has become increasingly common, and carrying them on oneshoulder may cause tension in the trapezius muscle, potentially leading to discomfort. This conditionemphasizes the need for proper education regarding the risks and how to prevent them. This community service activity aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention in increasing students’ knowledge about preventing trapezius muscle pain related to tote bag use. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied, involving 25 students from Kediri 6 Public High School. The intervention consisted of health education delivered through leaflets and a demonstration of trapezius stretching. Data were collected using a 12-item pretest and posttest questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used to analyze changes in knowledge scores. The results showed an increase in the mean score from 64.48 on the pretest to 87.20 on the posttest. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that the educational intervention was effective in enhancing students’ understanding of the risks of tote bag use and ways to prevent trapezius muscle pain. It is recommended that similar programs be implemented periodically in schools to promote awareness of musculoskeletal health.

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is pain accompanied by abdominal cramps. This activity aims to increase students’ knowledge about managing dysmenorrhea without medication through interactive education. The design used is a single-group pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest, using PowerPoint and leaflets as media. Education was provided to 22 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Kediri for 40 minutes. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 27. Data analysis included inferential statistical tests, specifically the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, to assess differences in knowledge scores before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon Test results showed a change in scores after the intervention, with a larger average increase (10.28) than the average decrease (8.72). These findings indicate that the intervention affected changes in respondents’ pretest and posttest results. The highest level of understanding was found in the material on the definition of menstruation and non-medical ways to reduce menstrual pain. In contrast, the material on the causes of primary dysmenorrhea and the timing of consultation with health workers still needs strengthening. This education is effective in increasing adolescents’ independence in managing menstrual pain without medication and is recommended forintegration into school health unit (SHU) activities.

Abstract

Text Neck Syndrome is a musculoskeletal disorder related to excessive cell phone use. It is estimated that the prevalence of neck pain among 7-11-year-olds who spend 5-8 hours a day on cell phones is around 70%. This condition highlights the importance of proper education about the risks and prevention. This community service activity aims to provide students with knowledge about ergonomic sitting positions to prevent neck strain from excessive cell phone use at SD Modern Paramadina in Kediri City. This activity was carried out using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with 17 students: 11 boys and 6 girls. The intervention provided was health education using PowerPoint media and stretching demonstrations to prevent text neck syndrome. The community service tools used were pre-tests and post-tests in the form of descriptive questionnaires. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and inferential tests, using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to compare students’ comprehension levels before and after the education. The results showed an increase in comprehension scores from a pre-test average of 88.24 to 100.00 on the post-test. The Wilcoxon Test results showed a p-value of 0.041, which is less than 0.05 (0.041 < 0.05). These findings indicate that the intervention led to changes in students’ understanding of how to prevent text neck syndrome after the education.

Abstract

Background: Pedagogical burnout is a critical challenge that threatens the quality of education and teacher retention, particularly in the Indonesian context where support systems are limited. Novice teachers are especially vulnerable during their early career years, necessitating effective and culturally responsive interventions. Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) integrated into peer support groups to address burnout among beginning teachers in West Java Province.Method: A quasi-experimental design was employed with 58 novice teachers (1-3 years of experience) allocated to either an experimental group receiving eight weekly sessions of SFBT peer support or a control group continuing the standard mentoring program.Findings and Implications: Significant group-time interactions were found for the experimental group on all burnout dimensions: emotional exhaustion (d = 1.85), depersonalization (d = 1.35), and personal accomplishment (d = 1.62), with improvements sustained at follow-up. Teacher self-efficacy significantly increased across instructional strategies (d = 1.28), classroom management (d = 1.15), and student engagement (d = 1.22). Qualitative analysis identified key mechanisms of change including cognitive reframing, recognition of personal resources, vicarious learning, emotional validation, and collaborative problem-solving. The program demonstrated strong cultural fit with Indonesian collectivist values and proved scalable through trained school counselors. Conclusion: Peer-group-based SFBT represents an effective, practical, and culturally responsive intervention for enhancing beginning teacher well-being and reducing burnout in the Indonesian educational context.

Abstract

Bitter melon leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids, which have antibacterial potential. The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity of an ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves. This antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method. The concentrations of bitter melon leaf ethanol extract used were 50%, 60%, and 70%. Clindamycin was used as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. The data was obtained by using the one-way Anova statistical test. The test for antibacterial activity showed that the inhibitory zone was 9.07 mm wide at a 50% extract concentration, 10.72 mm wide at a 60% concentration, and 12.08 mm wide at a 70% concentration. The Sig value indicated that there was a significant difference between the positive control with extract concentrations of 50%, 60%, and 70%. 0.005. The ethanol extract of bitter melon has an inhibitory effect on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.
