Abstract

The low Gross Enrollment Rate (GER) in higher education in Bojonegoro, particularly at SMA Negeri 1  Gondang, which is below 40 per cent, constitutes the primary urgency for implementing this community  service activity. This condition is exacerbated by students' limited information regarding study programs, future career prospects, and access to scholarships such as KIP Kuliah. This activity aimed to improve the  understanding and motivation of 12th-grade students in planning further studies, specifically in the field of  technology-based health. The method employed was participatory and interactive socialisation through interactive seminars and focus group discussions (FGD). The activity was conducted on January 28, 2026,  at the Hall of SMA Negeri 1 Gondang, Bojonegoro, with all 12th-grade students as the subjects. Data collection techniques utilised pre-tests and post-tests, observation sheets, and documentation, with instruments consisting of a ten-question multiple-choice questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using  descriptive quantitative analysis to measure the increase in understanding and descriptive qualitative  analysis to depict changes in student motivation. The results showed a significant increase in students'  understanding, evidenced by the rise in the average pre-test score from 42.86 to 93.88 on the post-test (a  119 per cent increase). Student enthusiasm was also evident from the numerous questions regarding study  programs at IIK Bhakta Kediri (midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy, medical laboratory technology, and  pharmacy), clinical practices, and graduate employment prospects. This activity concludes that  participatory socialisation effectively enhances students' understanding and motivation in planning further  studies. It is recommended that schools integrate study program exploration into sustainable career  guidance, provide technical assistance for scholarship applications, and expand the target to include 10th  and 11th-grade students.

Abstract

Foot neuropathy is a common condition experienced by older adults with diabetes mellitus. This complication can be managed through physical activity, including foot exercises. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of foot exercises on the severity of foot neuropathy in older adults with diabetes mellitus at the Tarokan Community Health Center. This quasi-experimental study employed a non-equivalent control group design and involved 30 older adults with diabetes mellitus who exhibited neuropathic symptoms. Participants were divided into two groups: 15 individuals in the intervention group and 15 in the control group, selected through purposive sampling. The intervention group performed foot exercises three times per week for three weeks, with each session lasting 15–20 minutes. A 10 g monofilament and an observation sheet were used as instruments, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant reduction in the degree of foot neuropathy in the intervention group (p = 0.001), whereas the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.527). The Mann–Whitney test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.000). These findings demonstrate that foot exercises effectively reduce the severity of foot neuropathy in older adults with diabetes mellitus. Regular implementation of foot exercises is recommended as a non-pharmacological approach to decreasing the degree of foot neuropathy among older adults with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

The increasing elderly population in Mojoroto District, Kediri City, elevates the risk of degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus, gout, and hypercholesterolemia, which can significantly decrease their  quality of life. This community service program aimed to empower the elderly through interactive education on early detection, free health screenings, and the introduction of Caesalpinia sappan L. (secang) herbal drinks as a preventive measure. The method involved a planning phase, interactive educational sessions, free medical tests for blood glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol, and a short-term evaluation phase. The results showed that 90% of the participants experienced an increase in post-educational knowledge scores. Health screenings covered 85% of the total elderly population in the community, successfully identifying that 30% of participants had blood parameter values above the normal threshold without prior awareness. Furthermore, 65% of the elderly showed high interest in routinely consuming secang herbal tea. This program effectively established a community-based preventive health framework, demonstrating that an integrated screening approach combined with local traditional wisdom can substantially enhance the quality of life and health independence of urban elderly groups.

Abstract

The community service activity was carried out in response to the high number of cases of medication misuse among children, with initial surveys showing that 65% of 4th-5th grade elementary school students in Kediri had taken medication without adult supervision, and 80% did not understand basic dosage rules. The programme, involving 44 students from SDN Bujel 3 Elementary School in Kediri City, was designed to improve health literacy through the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, comprising three main stages: (1) initial assessment via a pre-test, (2) intervention in the form of interactive education and demonstrations on how to read medication labels, and (3) evaluation using a post-test and observation of skills. Based on the pre-test and post-test analyses, there was a 45% increase in participants' understanding, with only 40% of students correctly answering questions about medication dosages in the pre-test, increasing to 85% in the post-test. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the PAR approach effectively improved students' understanding and skills. For sustainability, the following recommendations were made: (1) developing digital modules, (2) involving parents in follow-up programmes, and (3) strengthening teachers' capacity through training as school health facilitators to ensure programme sustainability. This activity demonstrates that participatory health education can create sustainable behavioural change in school-age children.

Abstract

Gadget use among Indonesian adolescents reaches 99.16% with an average duration of 6-8 hours per day. Global research shows that duration ≥4 hours/day increases the risk of sleep disturbances (42%), anxiety (31%), depression (28%), and suicidal ideation (19%). National data showed that 62.3% of adolescents experienced sleep disturbances. This activity aimed to improve PC NU mothers' understanding and skills in digital accompaniment strategies. The activity was conducted on May 12, 2026, at PC NU Wates District, involving 30 mothers of adolescent children (ages 13-18). The intervention included classical training, demonstrations, independent practice, and FGDs. Data were collected through pre-test/post-test, observation, interviews, and FGDs, and analyzed using a mixed-methods approach. Participants' knowledge increased from 64.9 to 70.8. However, the implementation of digital parenting was only 24.8%, with the lowest achievement in screen time restriction (13%) and the 20-20-20 rule (9%), indicating a significant knowledge-behavior gap. The program was effective at increasing knowledge but insufficient to change behavior. The implication is the need for sustainable and integrative mentoring. The religious community-based approach is effective as an intervention channel. Recommendations include peer support groups, parental control training, and family involvement.

Abstract

Obesity has become a significant global health problem, including in Indonesia, with prevalence continuing to increase across all age groups. Based on SKI 2023, the prevalence of obesity in adults (≥18 years) reached 23.4%, while among children aged 5-12 years, the prevalence of overweight increased to 11.9%. This community service activity aims to improve public knowledge of obesity prevention by educating about healthy local food consumption and regular weight monitoring for toddlers and children in Gurah Village, Kediri Regency. The activity was carried out using a participatory educational approach, including interactive lectures, group discussions, and growth-monitoring demonstrations, involving 18 adults (parents of toddlers and children) and 12 toddlers/children. Data were collected through pretest and posttest questionnaires consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions, and analyzed using a paired t-test after passing the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge, with the mean pretest score of 8.22 rising to 12.67 on the posttest (p < 0.001). The N-Gain analysis showed an average score of 0.61 (medium category), indicating that the intervention was quite effective. Weight measurement results showed that 3 of 12 children (25%) had weights above the standard. This activity confirms that health education delivered through leaflets and PowerPoint presentations, integrated with routine growth monitoring, is effective as an obesity-prevention strategy at the village level. Recommendations for follow-up include sustainable assistance through posyandu cadres and the development of digital-based educational media for the younger generation.
