Abstract

This study aimed to introduce Nusantara culture based on educational games by adjusting students' learning styles. Culture as an ancestral heritage tradition needs to be preserved by introducing it to the younger gen-eration from an early age. However, the survey results found that less than 26% of student respondents un-derstood Nusantara culture well. Compared to previous research, the model of cultural introduction through adaptive educational games is more fun because it is adapted to the way students learn. This research was carried out using the Design-Based Research (DBR) method through 4 stages of the procedure. The feasibil-ity test and application effectiveness test were carried out on a group of students from several elementary schools in Indonesia, who were taken using a cluster random sampling technique. The results of media design and content validation obtained an average value of 0.76 and 0.82, which means that the media is declared valid. The feasibility test used the System Usability Scale (SUS) with an average value of 80% in the acceptable category. The results of the research obtained a description of the comparison of the final scores of the control class and the experimental class, which was 55 compared to 75. This study concluded that learning media for introducing Indonesian culture based on adaptive educational games had a positive impact by effectively increasing learning outcomes on students' understanding of Indonesian culture. Further development of this game application can be expanded in the application of animation in more depth.

Abstract

Some previous studies tried to improve students' understanding of the concept of the composition of functions. However, only some research results still examine efforts to increase student understanding of the concept taught online, especially by utilizing the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop learning model. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the level of effectiveness of the application of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model in increasing students' understanding of composition function material taught online. To answer the purpose of the study, the authors compared the model with the Flipped Learning model and the conventional learning model. The quantitative method with a pretest-posttest control group design model is employed in the present study by engaging 90 Indonesian senior high school students. This study finds that the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model is significantly better at improving students' understanding of the composition of function concepts than conventional models. However, the same result is not found if compared with the Flipped Learning model. Though the average score of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model is better than the Flipped Learning model, the difference is not significant. This study also describes the related syntax of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model that high school math teachers can use to teach better composition functions online.

Abstract

In Indonesia, several training pieces have been conducted to develop HOTS-based science questions for elementary school teachers. However, few studies examine how elementary school teachers developed HOTS-based science questions. Hence, the current study is a case study that aims to analyze HOTS-based science questions developed by elementary school teachers in Indonesia. This study employed a descriptive-analytical method by analyzing 60 HOTS-based science questions developed by elementary school teachers in Boyolali, Indonesia, on February 22, 2020. This study involved two raters from one of Indonesia's universities, who are experts in assessing learning for elementary school level to assess the questions. The aspects that are assessed are aspects of conformity with HOTS questions criteria, conformity with the criteria of thinking ability of elementary school students, and conformity with the quality of good questions. This study's findings show that many problems do not meet the first aspect, especially at non-algorithmic points, multiple ways, and multiple interpretations. Next, in the second aspect, most of the question does not use illustration to strengthen the developed question's information. The third aspect is a relatively fulfilled aspect by most developed questions. However, only a few developed questions are judged not to meet this aspect. Hopefully, this study's findings can be an evaluation material for policymakers in education to increase the training quality of HOTS-based science questions for elementary school level in Indonesia.

Abstract

Many ethnomathematical studies focus on Indonesian culture, particularly traditional dwellings, although research into the mathematical notions of the Tajug House is sparse. There has been no previous research that examines the Tajug House form the aspect of geometry. Tajug houses are becoming increasingly rare. Nowadays students are less familiar with traditional house types. As a result, this study investigates the mathematical principles found in traditional Tajug houses in Java, and how these notions might be integrated into educational curriculum to conserve cultural heritage while also improving mathematics learning. This study used an ethnographic approach, to investigates the Tajug House's design through a literature review, expert interviews, and observations. The data obtained were analyzed based on mathematical and Tajug House knowledge by author to see the existence of mathematical concepts in the tajug house. The findings reveal significant geometric concepts, including plane geometry (square, triangle, trapezoid), solid geometry (cuboid), and geometric transformations (reflection). Square found in the base of the house, triangle found in the side of the roof, and trapezoid found in the base of pillar. Cuboid found in the pillar. Reflection found in the base of the house. These results suggest that Tajug Houses can effectively become one of the learning media to geometry subject in schools, demonstrating practical ethnomathematics applications. The learning process can utilize the GeoGebra application. By linking cultural heritage with mathematical education, this research promotes a deeper understanding of both subjects. Future studies should evaluate the effectiveness of Tajug House-based learning in improving students' math comprehension and cultural appreciation.

Abstract

Previous studies have tried to improve students' independence in online mathematics learning. However, the Flipped Learning model integrated with GeoGebra is scarce as none of the existing syntaxes accommodate the model. As the existing syntax is based on three phases: pre-class activity, in-class activity, and post-class activity. This research aims to develop GeoGebra-based Flipped Learning syntax to increase students' independence in learning mathematics. The main difference between the existing syntax and the developed one is the integration of GeoGebra in the pre-class activity. The integration is based on previous studies showing that using GeoGebra can improve student’s learning achievements. It research employed the Design-Based Research (DBR) model involving 125 second-year undergraduate students of a private university in Indonesia. The syntax results were obtained from the study, indicating an increase in the average value of student independence in learning mathematics based on learning independence, confidence, level of discipline, sense of responsibility, level of initiative, and self-control. This developed syntax is expected to help teachers streamline online mathematics learning.
