Abstract

Structural Equation Modelling Analysis of Improving Teachers' Teaching Creativity: The Role of Professional Identity and Emotional Intelligence. Objective: The study aimed to examine a comprehensive structural model comprising three variables namely teaching creativity, emotional intelligence, and professional identity. Methods: The study involved 170 prospective teachers enrolled in teacher professional education programs in Indonesia by using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected online using instruments adapted from previous research. The data were analysed by using covariance-based Structural Equation Modelling (CB-SEM) with the assistance of AMOS.  Findings: The findings revealed that the model confirmed a strong relationship among the three variables. Partial regression analysis reveals that emotional intelligence influences professional identity and teaching creativity, while professional identity influences teaching creativity. Nevertheless, the full model analysis revealed a contrary result that emotional intelligence could not directly enhance teaching creativity. Emotional intelligence must be accompanied by a strong professional identity to boost creativity in teaching effectively. These results suggest that professional identity functions as a full mediator in the relationship between emotional intelligence and teaching creativity. Conclusions: Efforts to enhance teaching creativity should focus not only on developing emotional intelligence but also on strengthening professional identity. This identity comprises several components, including cultural knowledge, blending, interpersonal skills, and active engagement in the professional community. Neglecting professional identity may hinder improvements in teaching creativity, even if emotional intelligence is high. Stakeholders should prioritise both aspects to cultivate creative educators. Keywords: teaching creativity, emotional intelligence, professional identity, SEM, teacher.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202498

Abstract

Several previous researchers have tried to review the results of previous research related to the development of learning tools using a systematic literature review (SLR) model. However, SLR research efforts that examine the development of learning tools carried out by Indonesian in-service and pre-service mathematics teachers are still limited. Therefore, this study seeks to answer two questions, namely (1) what is the mathematics learning sets developed by the Indonesian ISTs and PSTs, and (2) What instructional design model is used by the Indonesian ISTs and PSTs in developing mathematics learning sets. As many as 55 articles were selected using the PRISMA protocol by retrieving articles from the ERIC and Dimensions databases. The findings of the two questions are that the ADDIE model is the most widely used model by Indonesian PSTs and ISTs in developing learning sets. In addition, mathematics learning media and mathematics student worksheets are the most developed tools by authors. This study also examines several instructional designs and types of mathematics learning sets developed by researchers, which can undoubtedly be a refer-ence for subsequent researchers in developing mathematics learning sets.

Abstract

Limited exploration of the integration of the STEAM approach within the flipped learning framework for trigonometric instruction, particularly concerning its pedagogical efficacy and the challenges inherent in its implementation, creates a prominent gap in existing literature. Furthermore, there is a paucity of comprehensive research that identifies the multidimensional obstacles students face when grappling with the abstract nature of the subject matter. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a STEAM-based flipped learning model in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of trigonometry and to delineate barriers encountered during its implementation. Methodologically, the research took an explanatory sequential mixed-methods approach, utilizing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, with three distinct sample groups, followed by a thematic analysis of in-depth interviews with students exhibiting lower prior academic achievement. The quantitative findings demonstrate that the STEAM-based flipped learning model yielded a statistically significant improvement in students' conceptual understanding relative to comparative models. Complementary to these results, qualitative data shed light on critical implementation challenges, with specific emphasis on the prerequisite for initial technological training and the demand for effective time management for project fulfillment. Ultimately, this study offers an integrated solution framework to assist educators in optimizing hybrid learning strategies for abstract content, while simultaneously enriching theoretical discourse through a five-dimensional chain effect analysis.

Abstract

The efficacy of NuminaMath 7B, an AI model that was created to address mathematical challenges, is assessed in this investigation. We evaluated the model's accuracy and efficiency against conventional methods through experiments that produced quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through surveys and interviews with users to gain insight into their experiences and pinpoint areas for improvement. The survey results indicated that users found NuminaMath 7B to be pertinent, effective, and user-friendly, as evidenced by the exceptionally high average scores in user experience (95), perception of features and interface (90), and additional feedback (85). NuminaMath 7B was able to offer mathematical solutions with logical and detailed explanations as a result of the model's development through two phases of adjustments, which were conducted using the Chain of Thought (CoT) methodology and inspiration from the Tool-Integrated Reasoning Agent (ToRA) framework. Testing demonstrated that the model achieved a score of 29 out of 50 in the AI Math Olympiad competition, despite encountering difficulties in resolving more intricate problems. This study underscores the significance and urgency of AI technology, particularly in the field of mathematics, as well as the significant potential of AI models to facilitate a more comprehensive comprehension of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This study delves into the philosophical dimensions of traditional architecture and the ethnomathematical geometry inherent in the mountains of shadow puppets, a significant aspect of Indonesia's cultural heritage. Utilizing a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic design, data were collected through observations and interviews with primary, secondary, and additional informants. The objective of this research is to uncover the mathematical concepts embedded in the mountains of shadow puppets, including geometry, algebra, arithmetic, and statistics, using an ethnographic approach that addresses four principal inquiries: "Where should I begin my investigation?", "How do I proceed with the search?", "How can I identify significant findings?", and "How do I interpret these findings?". The results indicate that among the four mathematical concepts investigated, only geometric concepts are present in the puppet mountains, as validated by a geometer. The geometric sub-concepts identified encompass (1) geometric transformations such as translation and reflection, (2) plane geometry including rhombuses, rectangles, triangles, and circles, and (3) congruence and symmetry. This research holds significant implications for enhancing students' mathematical education by incorporating geometric examples from local cultural contexts. Integrating ethnomathematics into school curricula can expand students' artistic horizons, boost their engagement in learning, and deepen their comprehension of mathematical concepts.
