Abstract

Obesity is associated with increased betatrophin levels, which can lead to fat metabolism disorders. Increased levels of betatrophin may inhibit the performance of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) enzyme, making it difficult for triglycerides (TG) in the blood to be converted into energy and causing excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissue. Physical exercise has been reported to increase energy expenditure in obesity. This study aims to determine changes in betatrophin in obese women after moderate-intensity aerobic exercise. A total of twenty obese women aged 20-30 years took part in the study. The participants were administered into two groups: control (K1) and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (K2). Moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (60-70% HRmax) was performed five times a week for two weeks. Pretest and posttest betatrophin levels were measured using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) Kit method. Data were analyzed using a paired samples t-test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. The results showed the average pretest and posttest betatrophin levels in K1 (0.44±0.14 vs 0.44±0.13 ng/mL; p=0.894), and K2 (0.41±0.05 vs 0.31±0.03 ng/mL; p=0.000). According to the study's findings, moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (60-70% HRmax) performed five times per week for two weeks positively impacted alterations in betatrophin levels in obese women.

Abstract

Physical activity with moderate intensity can be implemented with various types of exercise, including multiple movements done in turns which take a bodyweight as a training load known as the circuit body weight training (CBWT). The purpose of this research to prove influence CBWT moderate intensity to the percentage of the body fat, subcutaneous fat and muscles skeletal a person trained and untrained. This is research experimental with the methods pretest-posttest design. 20 people women aged 18 to 23 years was obtained using proportionate stratified random sampling. Consisting of K1 10 people trained and K2 10 people untrained. Done the measurement of the percentage of the body fat, subcutaneous fat and muscles skeletal use weight body composition monitor model HBF-375 Karada scan. The subject is given the treatment CBWT moderate intensity (64-76% heart rate maximum) for 30 menit, after which the measurement was done again 5 minutes after treatment. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical tests with paired t-test and the continued independent t-test. Abstract

This study aims to determine the potency of CV 12 acupuncture as prevention of weight gain in ovariectomizedmice (OVX). Female mice strain BALB/c, 28 mice, 3-4 weeks, 25-35 grams were divided into four groups; namely K1 (n = 8, sham and vehiculum injection), K2 (n = 8, OVX and vehiculum injection), K3 (n = 7, OVX and injection of estrogen intraperitoneal 10 mg/kg/day) and K4 (n = 6, OVX and CV12 acupuncture with a frequency of 2 Hz in 10 mA of continuous spike current wave).Injection and acupuncture given every day for four weeks. Weight change in K1 (0.75 ± 2.8) grams, K2 (2.71 ± 2.4) grams, K3 (0.71 ± 0.95) g and K4 (0.93 ± 2.40) gram with a significant difference in the K2 and K4 (p = 0.011). a receptor expression in K1 (12.25 ± 2.96), K2 (5.43 ± 2.64), K3 (18.86 ± 1.57), K4 (17 ± 2.00) with a significant difference to the K2 K1, K3 and K4 with p<0.05. b receptor expression in K1 (11.38 ± 1.92), K2 (4 ± 1.41), K3 (16.86 ± 1.86), K4 (14.17 ± 5.24) with significantly different a receptor expression in visceral fat mass on the group K2 to K1, K3 and K4 with p<0.05. CV 12 acupuncture increases the expression of a and b estrogen receptor in visceral adipose tissue of OVX mice equivalently and able to prevent the increase of weight due to the estrogen withdrawal. This point could potentially be used as one of the management ofobesity prevention in menopause.

Abstract

Highlight: • The differences in intensity physical exercise mechanisms associated with increased irisin secretion in overweight and obese subjects were determined. • The secretion of irisin in the right intensity blood on obesity can be reduced because the calories were balanced. Abstract: Physical exercise is a non-pharmacological therapy that can secrete various types of myokines to treat obesity problems. One of the myokines that play a role is irisin. Irisin is a polypeptide hormone with 112 amino acid residues that are synthesized in skeletal muscle after the proteolytic precursor cleavage of fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5). The release of irisin in the blood circulation will stimulate the browning process in white fat tissue by inducing the expression of uncoupling protein-1 (UCP-1) through signaling p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK) to increase energy expenditure, thermogenesis and reduce fat accumulation. This study described the differences in intensity of physical exercise mechanisms associated with the increased irisin secretion in overweight and obese subjects. This study was designed as a literature review that involved studies from research journals in the last 10 years concerning humans from some databases, such as Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. This study also discussed the relationship between the intensity of physical exercise and the synthesis, secretion, circulation, and regulation of irisin in preventing obesity.

Abstract

Highlight: • Adiponectin is an important protective factor for cardiovascular disease and increased insulin sensitivity. • Ketogenic diet effect on adiponectin level in mice besides decrease weight gain was determined. • The difference in serum adiponectin level and body weight is uncorrelated. Abstract: Ketogenic diet is a popular diet to reduce weight gain quickly. This diet has become a lifestyle . The ketogenic diet has been reported to affect adiponectin level, although it is still contraindicated. Adiponectin is a biomarker for metabolic disease that plays an important role as a protective factor for cardiovascular disease and increase insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to explore the effect of the ketogenic diet on adiponectin level in mice, besides decrease weight gain. This study was an experimental laboratory study with a randomized post-test-only control group design. Fourteen male mice (20-30 g) aged 2-3 months were divided randomly into K1 (n=7, standard diet) and K2 (n=7, ketogenic diet), were given diet for eight weeks, ad libitum. Body weight was measured at the pre and post-intervention, whereas adiponectin level were measured at the post-intervention using ELISA. The statistical analysis using SPSS version 16. The Shapiro Wilk test was used to determine normality, Independent T-Test was used to determine mean difference for normal distribution, Mann Whitney Test was used to determine mean difference for abnormal distribution, and Pearson Correlation was used to determine correlation. Difference (∆) of body weight on K1 (12.00±6.26) g, K2 (1.29±7.41) g with p=0.02. Serum adiponectin level of K1 (0.082±0.014) µg/ml and K2 (0.096±0.008) µg/ml with p=0.035. This study showed ketogenic diet-induced higher serum adiponectin level and slower weight gain. There is no correlation between the difference in body weight and serum adiponectin level (p=0.403).

Abstract

Overweight and obesity incidence continues to increase and becomes a global problem in recent decades. One of the pathophysiology is a low energy output, therefore energy homeostasis shifts positively. Exercise is considered as an effective method to increase energy output. Irisin is one of myokine type that is secreted to the bloodstream while exercising and causes changes in subcutaneous adipose tissue. In adipose cells, irisin will stimulate the browning process in White Adipose Tissue to increase thermogenesis and lipolysis.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the comparative effects of EA (EA) on the CV12, ST36 and ST40 to weight gain prevention over the short-term regulation of energy balance. The study was conducted with a completely randomized design. Rats were divided into five groups: negative control group (no treatment, n=5), positive control (sham EA/back, n=5), EA CV 12 (n=6), EA ST 36 (n=6) and EA ST 40 (n=7). Rats were exposed to high-fat diet for two weeks and EA was simultaneously performed once daily, five days a week for two weeks with 2 Hz, for 10 minutes with continuous wave. Body weight, BMI, front limb circumference and rear were measured during study. Levels of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL were measured at the end of the study; which reflects the short-term regulation of energy homeostasis. For weight loss, EA CV12, ST36 and ST40 group have lost weight significantly compared to the negative and positive control group. The ST40 group has a significant decrease than ST36 and CV12. The most significant decrease in BMI found in the ST40 group. EA did not affect blood glucose levels, but modulated blood lipid profile. In ST 40 group there was a significant decrease in cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides. EA at point ST 40 is potential in preventing increased body weight and BMI in rats exposed to high-fat diet compared to the CV 12 and ST 36. ST 40 is a point with a potential of lowering LDL and triglycerides serum so that it can play a role in the short term regulation of energy homeostasis but also in the prevention of dyslipidemia.

Abstract

Obesity becomes a global epidemic nowadays. The high-fat diet is used as an alternative therapy for obesity. The optimal composition of a high-fat diet to reduce body weight is still unknown. This study aimed to determine which components of a high-fat diet can decrease body weight, visceral fat, and PPARG expression of visceral fat. This study was conducted at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, for three months by using a randomized post-test only control group design. Fifty male mice, 2-3 months old, 18-30 grams were adapted for one week given standard diet AIN93-M, then mice were divided into five groups, namely K1 (control group, 12% fat, 20% protein, 62% carbs); K2 (30% fat, 60% proteins, 0% carbs); K3 (45% fat, 45% protein, 0% carbs); K4 (60% fat, 30% protein, 0% carbs); and K5 (75% fat, 15% protein, 0% carbs). Bodyweight was measured before and after treatment, then the visceral fat and PPARG expressions were evaluated. Statistical comparisons were performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. After treatment, there were forty-three mice. The body weight and visceral fat weight of the mice with a high-fat diet were decreased. The most significant changes in body weight were in K4 with -9,60 ± 3,806 grams reduction. The bodyweight of mice in K5, slightly increased than K2-K4. This could be caused by the hormesis phenomenon. PPARG expressions decreased in groups with a high-fat diet but increased in K5. The composition of a high-fat diet in group K4 was the most optimal to decrease the body weight, visceral fat, and PPARG expressions in mice

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to describe the physical condition differences between female athletes indoor hockey of East Java Team and National Team. Data sampling is taken from 12 female athletes indoor hockey of PON 2016 with age range 17-28 years old and 12 athletes of indoor hockey of Indonesia's National Team at SEA Games 2017 with age range 19-28 years old for comparison. Physical condition that measured is VO2max to represent endurance, abdominal muscle strength, speed and flexibility. Obtained data is then analyzed using SPSS. VO2max of East Java Team is (39.54±4.18) ml/kg/minute and for National Team is (43.43±7.59) ml/kg/minute (ρ=0.14). For abdominal muscle strength, East Java Team has (41.50±7.01) kg and National Team has (51.83±3.32) kg (ρ=0.00). For Speed, East Java Team has (3.59±0.30) second and National Team has (3.94±0.38) second (ρ=0.51). For Flexibility, East Java Team has (23.75±5.10) cm and National Team has (29.50±4.91) cm (ρ=0.01). From these data we can conclude that East Java Team physical condition is under National Team and it has significant differences at flexibility and abdominal muscle strength. Furthermore, optimal interventions are needed to improve both of those physical conditions. Keywords: hockey, endurance, flexibility, strength, speed

Abstract

Obesity has become an epidemic around the world. High fat diet (HFD) have been implemented as one of intervention to battle obesity. Uncouple protein 1 (UCP1) is one of the key factor on energy expenditure. The aim of this experiment is to see the macronutrients composition on weight loss and UCP1 expression in the visceral fat. Fifty male mice, 2-3 months old, 18-30 grams, were put in five different groups. K1 were fed (20% protein, 62.0% carbohydrate, 12% fat), K2 (60% protein, 0% carbohydrate, 30% fat), K3 (45% protein, 0% carbohydrate, 45% fat), K4 (30% protein, 0% carbohydrate, 60% fat), K5 (15% protein, 0% carbohydrate, 75% fat). The experiment was done in four weeks, mice body weight was measured every week. UCP1 expression seen using immunohistochemistry staining was measured at the end of the fourth week. Significant weight loss was achieved by K4 (-9.60±3.81) gram by the end of week four (p<0.05). K4 had the least amount of visceral fat. The result was that K4 achieved a significant visceral fat mass (0.02±0.06) gram compared to K1 (0.53±0.08) gram. Compared to other groups K5 expressed UCP1 more than the others (3.78±3.72) cphfp. HFD fed groups produced significant weight loss, group that had the greatest weight loss is K4. Meanwhile, each group had a variety of UCP1 expression.
