Abstract

Background: Studies on walking have been developed recently because the speed of walking plays an important role in making predictions related to physical health. However, studies of walking speed in children are still relatively few even though the need for such data is quite high considering that walking speed can be used as a parameter to measure physicalhealth.Aim: The purpose of this study is to know the difference in walking speed based on age and gender in elementary school students. Methods: This study used an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. All samples are students from Mojo VI State Elementary School Surabaya aged 7 to 12 years who meet the inclusion criteria using 10-meter walk test. The variable studied was walking speed. Method of sampling was conducted at Mojo VI State Elementary School Surabaya. Walking speed analysis was carried out by using the Kruskal-Wallis test for walking speed based on age and an unpaired T test for walking speed based on gender. Results: This research included 170 subjects that are 90 males and 80 males. Based on age, seven years old students have anaveragewalkingspeedof(1.30±0.21)m/s, eightyearsold students with(1.23±of0.18)m/s, nine yearsold  students with (1.24 ± 0.17) m/s, ten years old students with (1.24 ± 0.19) m/s. eleven years old students with (1.31 ± 0.22) m/s, and twelve years old students with (1.27 ± 0.20) m/s. Based on gender, the average walking speed obtained in male was (1.26 ± 0.19) m/s, while the average walking speed obtained in female was (1.26 ± 0,20)m/s.Conclusion: There is no difference in the speed of walking based on age (p=0.440) at the age of 7 to 12 years and in both genders (p=0.910).

Abstract

Background: Obesity, reflected by high body mass index (BMI) value, has become a global health concern. Both obesity and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) are major risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases. Although many studies have shown that obesity induces angiogenesis through increased VEGF-A, there remains a  gap regarding the correlation between BMI categories and VEGF-A levels. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between various level of BMI and VEGF-A concentrations. Methods: This cross-sectional in vivo study analyzed blood samples from 90 adults enrolled in the Universitas Padjadjaran Wellness Program ( December 2022–June 2023) selected using simple random sampling.VEGF-A concentrations were measured using multiplex ELISA assays. Data normality was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Differences between BMI groups were analyze with ANOVA, and correlations were evaluated using Pearson’s test. Results: Of the 90 samples, 62 were included, and were grouped as normal weight (29%), overweight (32.2%), obesity class I (30.6%), obesity class II (6.4%), and obesity class III (1.6%). Mean VEGF-A concentrations showed an increasing trend with higher BMI, though differences between groups were not statistically significant (p=0.482). A weak positive correlation was observed between BMI and VEGF-A levels (r=0.267; p=0.036).Conclusion: Higher BMI is associated with higher VEGF-A, indicating obesity-induced inflammation and angiogenic activity. These findings highlight the importance of weight control through balanced diet and physical activity to mitigate long-term risks of cardiometabolic and chronic diseases.

Abstract

Microbiota was deemed essential as it involved in energy metabolism, nutrient absorption, intestinal immune system maturation, and pathogen protection. Gastrointestinal microbiome played essential roles in human body, such as immune response regulation, pathogen colonization, and few other diseases.  The relation between gastric microbiota and host were difficult to explore for years due to unculturable microbes. Stomach with its acid production was presumed to be sterile and unfavorable for bacterial growth until the discovery of Helicobacter pylori. It dominates the stomach as it was estimated to colonize almost 50% global population. H. pylori infection was linked to the development of chronic gastritis and recognized as a definite carcinogen. There was a probability that the alteration of gastric microbiota likely influenced gastric immunobiology and possible gastric diseases. Recent studies showed that five phyla consist of Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria have been discovered in stomach mucosa which might contribute to the pathological process. In addition, genera such as Lactobacillus, Escherichia-Shigella, Lachnospiraceae, Burkholderia and Nitrospirae were considered to have a role on gastric carcinogenesis.

Abstract

Obesity is associated with increased betatrophin levels, which can lead to fat metabolism disorders. Increased levels of betatrophin may inhibit the performance of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) enzyme, making it difficult for triglycerides (TG) in the blood to be converted into energy and causing excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissue. Physical exercise has been reported to increase energy expenditure in obesity. This study aims to determine changes in betatrophin in obese women after moderate-intensity aerobic exercise. A total of twenty obese women aged 20-30 years took part in the study. The participants were administered into two groups: control (K1) and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (K2). Moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (60-70% HRmax) was performed five times a week for two weeks. Pretest and posttest betatrophin levels were measured using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) Kit method. Data were analyzed using a paired samples t-test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. The results showed the average pretest and posttest betatrophin levels in K1 (0.44±0.14 vs 0.44±0.13 ng/mL; p=0.894), and K2 (0.41±0.05 vs 0.31±0.03 ng/mL; p=0.000). According to the study's findings, moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (60-70% HRmax) performed five times per week for two weeks positively impacted alterations in betatrophin levels in obese women.

Abstract

Physical activity with moderate intensity can be implemented with various types of exercise, including multiple movements done in turns which take a bodyweight as a training load known as the circuit body weight training (CBWT). The purpose of this research to prove influence CBWT moderate intensity to the percentage of the body fat, subcutaneous fat and muscles skeletal a person trained and untrained. This is research experimental with the methods pretest-posttest design. 20 people women aged 18 to 23 years was obtained using proportionate stratified random sampling. Consisting of K1 10 people trained and K2 10 people untrained. Done the measurement of the percentage of the body fat, subcutaneous fat and muscles skeletal use weight body composition monitor model HBF-375 Karada scan. The subject is given the treatment CBWT moderate intensity (64-76% heart rate maximum) for 30 menit, after which the measurement was done again 5 minutes after treatment. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical tests with paired t-test and the continued independent t-test. Body fat pre K1 mean ∆ (0,53%±0,28), and K2 mean ∆ (0,92%±0,69), the value of p = 0,119 (p
