Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has generated both opportunities and serious challenges for university students, particularly concerning moral degradation resulting from inadequate ethical awareness in the use of digital media. Muslim students in the Electrical Engineering Education Program at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Class of 2024, represent a group that is especially vulnerable to digital moral dilemmas due to their intensive engagement with technology for academic and social activities. This study aims to identify the forms of moral challenges encountered by students, analyze strategies for applying Islamic values in digital technology use, and formulate a model for strengthening digital character based on Islamic ethical principles for engineering students. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach through a survey using a questionnaire containing 20 statements measuring five key dimensions: awareness of digital moral degradation, integration of Islamic values in technology use, positive digital behavior and self-control, religious engagement through digital platforms, and implementation of Islamic digital ethics. The study involved 32 students selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that students exhibit a high level of moral awareness, indicated by their recognition of moral degradation in digital spaces and understanding of its negative impacts. The integration of Islamic values also falls into a high category, reflected in students’ ability to reject negative digital content and their efforts to apply Islamic principles in technological activities. However, the practical implementation of Islamic digital ethics remains inconsistent, particularly in students’ willingness to correct peers who misuse technology and in maintaining consistent exemplary digital conduct. These findings highlight a gap between strong moral awareness and actual ethical behavior. Therefore, a comprehensive character-building strategy is needed, involving Islamic-based digital ethics training, supportive campus policies, and role modeling by lecturers and the academic environment to help students consistently apply Islamic values in their digital activities.

Abstract

This study aims to increase student engagement in Islamic Jurisprudence learning through the SHARIA Board Game in elementary schools. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported by simple quantitative descriptive data, using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model. The participants consisted of one Islamic Religious Education teacher and 15 fourth-grade students. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, and test scores, and were analyzed using thematic analysis following Miles and Huberman’s (1994) model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that the average student score increased from 70.77 to 80.67 (13.99%), and learning completeness improved from 46.15% to 73.33%. The SHARIA Board Game also strengthened student engagement across four dimensions: cognitive, behavioral, social, and spiritual. Students became more active, motivated, and collaborative during learning activities. Theoretically, this study contributes to Islamic Religious Education by demonstrating that game-based learning can transform abstract fiqh concepts into meaningful and contextual learning experiences. Practically, the SHARIA Board Game offers an effective, low-cost, non-digital learning alternative that can be implemented in elementary schools to enhance motivation, participation, and understanding of worship practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Pesantren Ramadan program on fostering empathy and reducing bullying in educational settings, addressing the need for values-based interventions in character education. The importance of examining this program lies in its potential to shape moral and spiritual character among students, which is crucial for creating a safer, more respectful school environment. A qualitative research approach was employed, involving observations of Pesantren Ramadan activities, in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of 10 teachers experienced in the program, and document analysis from schools implementing this initiative. Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 software to identify key patterns and themes related to empathy and bullying behavior. The program combines worship activities and social events designed to cultivate empathy and social responsibility. Findings demonstrate that students who participate in the program show enhanced empathy towards peers and a noticeable reduction in bullying incidents, attributed to activities such as communal prayers, iftar sharing, and community service, which reinforce values of compassion, mutual respect, and support. Additionally, as part of the program’s anti-bullying initiative, schools engage all members in a declaration against bullying, strengthening a collective commitment to respect and inclusion. The Pesantren Ramadan program, integrating both moral and spiritual activities, is shown to be an effective model for developing empathetic students and reducing bullying behavior. These findings suggest broader implications for educational policy and practice, offering a framework that could inspire similar values-based programs in other schools to enhance character education.

Abstract

This study examines the Ngaji Rasa curriculum in Islamic boarding schools and its implications for Islamic Religious Education (IRE) from the perspective of kyai, against the backdrop of moral degradation in formal education environments that indicates cognitively oriented approaches in IRE have been ineffective in internalizing moral and spiritual values. As an inner development-based educational practice, Ngaji Rasa offers an alternative model grounded in life experiences, behavioral exemplars, and habituation. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, the study involves ten kyai from traditional Islamic boarding schools, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis. The findings show that Ngaji Rasa operates as an unwritten hidden curriculum that significantly shapes students’ character formation through the exemplary conduct of the kyai, systematic habituation of values, and gradual spiritual experiences. This model contributes to fostering honesty, patience, humility, and social responsibility among students. The implications for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) include the development of experience-based learning, the strengthening of teacher role modeling, the cultivation of appropriate behavior, and the creation of a virtuous classroom atmosphere. Overall, this educational model bridges modern pedagogical theory with classical Islamic tradition, offering a holistic and transformative framework for religious education.

Abstract

This study aims to design and implement a Game-Based Learning (GBL) model to enhance student engagement in Islamic Education (PAI) at the higher education level. The main issue addressed is the low student engagement due to the dominance of lecture-based methods and distractions from smartphone use in class. Generation Z students, in the digital era, demand more interactive and contextual learning models. A game-based learning approach is an innovative solution, turning digital devices from distractions into engaging Islamic learning tools. This research adopts the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The analysis phase involved interviews with five Islamic Education lecturers, analyzed using NVivo 12 software to identify learning needs. The design phase produced a six-stage GBL flow: orientation, exploration, interaction, reflection, evaluation, and closure. The development phase used the Wayground platform, integrating features like Voting, Word Cloud, Quiz, and Essay Response for interactive learning. The model was tested on 100 PAI students to measure effectiveness. Findings show significant improvements in cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement, making students more active, motivated, and reflective on Islamic values. The model proved valid and effective, transforming smartphones into productive tools for Islamic learning.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in guiding elementary school students to understand the physical and psychological changes associated with puberty (baligh). Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews and classroom observations involving five PAI teachers at Islamic elementary schools in Bandung. The data were analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and key categories. The findings reveal six major themes: (1) puberty education as a moral and spiritual responsibility, (2) dialogic and gender-separated instructional strategies, (3) behavioral approaches through counseling and role modeling, (4) integration of religious and general knowledge, (5) collaboration between teachers and parents, and (6) evaluation through observation and self-reflection. These findings indicate that puberty education within Islamic Religious Education should adopt a holistic framework that integrates spiritual, physical, and emotional dimensions. The study highlights the importance of curriculum strengthening, teacher professional development, and parental engagement in supporting effective puberty education grounded in Islamic values.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore spirituality-based character education through theNgaji Rasa program in salaf Islamic boarding schools and its implications forstrengthening Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in formal schools. Using aqualitative method with a case study approach at the Azziyadah Islamic BoardingSchool, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The results reveal that Ngaji Rasa is implementedthrough four main pillars: direct learning, religious tourism, creative economicempowerment, and respect for the kiai. Through this ecosystem, santri internalizeessential character values such as obedience, patience, sincerity, responsibility, and tazkiyatun nafs or purification of the soul. The findings show that Ngaji Rasafunctions as experiential moral education that balances the dimensions of dzikir(spiritual), fikir (rational), and amal (practical action). The implications for PAI informal schools include the need for a paradigm shift towards a holistic approachthat integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. This studyrecommends strengthening the role of teachers as spiritual role models (murabbi)and implementing experience-based learning to overcome the moral crisis of theyounger generation. The integration of the inner values of Islamic boardingschools is expected to create more meaningful and transformative PAI learningfor students' character in the contemporary era.
