Abstract

The Workshop on Assistance in the Preparation of Community Service Proposals (PkM) and the Publication of PkM Journal Articles was held at the Institut Agama Islam Hidayatullah Batam with the aim of increasing the academic capacity of lecturers and students in designing proposals for community service activities and writing scientific articles that can be published in community service journals. This activity was attended by 30 participants consisting of lecturers and students from various study programs. The method of implementing activities is carried out through several stages, namely the delivery of materials, discussions and questions and answers, as well as practice and assistance in the preparation of PkM proposals and the writing of scientific articles. The material presented included the basic concept of community service, the systematics of the preparation of PkM proposals, the method of implementing community service activities, and techniques for writing scientific articles based on community service activities. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the preparation of PkM proposals and the publication of scientific articles. In addition, participants also succeeded in compiling several draft community service proposals as well as draft scientific articles that have the potential to be submitted to the community service grant program or published in community service journals. This workshop activity is expected to encourage an increase in the productivity of lecturers and students in carrying out community service activities and increase the number of scientific publications based on PkM activities

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the performance of an engine using a gasoline–ethanol fuel blend produced by the Enduro XL engine. To evaluate engine performance, calculations were carried out on effective power, fuel consumption, specific fuel consumption, and mass flow rate. In addition, theoretical mass flow rate, air–fuel ratio, volumetric efficiency, and thermal efficiency were also examined. The experiment was carried out under five variations of engine speed with a constant load, using only one type of fuel, namely Pertamax (gasoline) blended with 20% ethanol. The test results showed that the average power produced by the blended fuel was greater than that of pure gasoline. Fuel consumption increased with higher engine speed because the octane number of the gasoline–ethanol blend was higher than that of pure gasoline, making it more easily combustible. However, the higher the ethanol content in the fuel blend, the lower the air–fuel ratio, resulting in less complete combustion in the combustion chamber. The thermal efficiency of the blended fuel was generally lower than that of pure Pertamax, except for the 20% ethanol blend. Therefore, engine performance using Pertamax fuel was higher than that using BE-20 gasohol. However, fuel consumption for Pertamax was greater compared to BE-20 gasohol.

Abstract

Energi merupakan kebutuhan utama dalam kehidupan masyarakat karena hampir seluruh aktivitas manusia memerlukan energi, baik untuk penerangan, industri, peralatan rumah tangga, maupun transportasi. Di Indonesia, penggunaan energi masih didominasi oleh bahan bakar fosil seperti minyak bumi dan gas bumi yang jumlahnya terbatas dan berdampak terhadap lingkungan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan energi alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan, salah satunya adalah biodiesel yang berasal dari minyak nabati melalui proses transesterifikasi dengan alkohol, umumnya metanol, untuk menghasilkan alkyl ester sebagai bahan bakar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimental dengan merancang dan membuat reaktor transesterifikasi untuk menghasilkan biodiesel sesuai kadar yang diinginkan. Proses dilakukan dengan mereaksikan minyak nabati dengan metanol menggunakan katalis tertentu di dalam reaktor, kemudian dilakukan pengamatan terhadap proses reaksi dan hasil biodiesel yang dihasilkan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis untuk mengetahui kinerja reaktor dan kualitas biodiesel yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa reaktor transesterifikasi yang dirancang mampu menghasilkan biodiesel sesuai kadar yang diinginkan dan dapat digunakan sebagai alat penelitian. Reaktor ini berpotensi dikembangkan dalam skala lebih besar sehingga dapat meningkatkan produksi biodiesel serta memberikan manfaat ekonomi dan lingkungan sebagai sumber energi alternatif
