Abstract

The objective of the present research was to map the bathymetry of the Bangsring coastal area, Banyuwangi. Depth data obtained are used to consider the suitable location for fish apartment placement. The depth of the water was measured using a single beam echosounder with a frequency of 50 Hz. The data obtained by sounding process corrected by Tidal data. The tidal data measured during sampling with the observation interval of 30 minutes. The tidal correction was performed to get the depth value relative to lowest Water Surface (LWS). The results showed the depth of the Bangsring coastal area ranged from 2-49 meters. The deepest region is in the southeast of the research area. Based on the depth of the waters, the locations that can be an alternative placement of fish apartment is located by distance of 200- 250 meters in front of Bangsring coastal area with total area  approximately 30 HaPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan kedalaman perairan Bangsring, Banyuwangi.

Abstract

Coral reefs are a unique and complex ecosystem in waters, as well as being a life support for the surrounding biota. But behind the great functions and benefits, coral reefs are ecosystems that are vulnerable to changes in environmental quality. One of the environmental parameters in the waters is hydro-oceanographic parameters which include currents, waves, tides and sedimentation, with these considerations it is necessary to research the relationship between hydrooceanographic parameters and corals. This is because changes in hydrooceanographic conditions will affect water conditions. The waters of the Sempu Strait are waters that have unique characteristics because they are located between karst rock structures and are directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with in situ and ex situ data collection and for the analysis method using the PCA analysis method. The results of the current velocity parameter in this area are included in the fast category with a value of 0.16 – 1.32 m/s. Similar to current, the wave value also shows a fairly high value with an average significant height of 47.62 cm. The type of tidal in these waters is mixed tidal double skew with a relatively high sedimentation rate of up to 181 mg/cm2/day. The value of the percentage of coral cover in each shows a poor cover value with the percentage value of coral cover only in the range of 5-18% and shows a not very significant relationship with hydro-oceanographic parameters. This could be due to the fact that the waters of the Sempu Strait are densely packed with ships, both fishing vessels and tourist vessels. From the results of PCA analysis, it was found that between hydro-oceanographic parameters and coral cover in the Sempu Strait waters there was a less significant relationship because the value of the closeness of the relationship was below 0.5. This shows that the hydrooceanographic parameters do not significantly affect the growth process of coral reef cover.

According to BPS (Central Statistics Agency) data in 2021, catch production in NTT (East Nusa Tenggara) waters reached 190.594 tons and is potentially rising every year, so it is necessary to map potential fishing zones in the Ombai Strait. The method used is a weighting method to see areas that have and do not have the potential to become fishing zones. The data used is secondary data on Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a from Aqua-MODIS Level 3 imagery using a remote sensing approach and geographic information system. The research was conducted from September to October 2023 in the waters of the Ombai Strait. Differences in fishing potential zone maps can be seen from parameters such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a, seasons, and data sources obtained. The spread of potential fishing areas occurred in the coastal areas of Timor Island and Flores Island. During 2022, February to October 2022 was a time with a very strong fishing potential zone, while January, November, and December had very weak fishing potentials.

Abstract

Turf algae is an organism that is an indicator of the health of coral reef ecosystems. This organism can even dominate an area and suppress coral reef cover in certain water conditions. This is of course a threat to the sustainability of an ecosystem which has an impact on the economy of the surrounding community through the amount of fish caught. Therefore, this research was carried out to monitor the extent of turf algae cover in the Sempu Strait waters in August 2023. The method used was ten Underwater Photo Transects (UPT) at five stations with a transect length of 100 meters assisted by quadrant transects measuring 1 x 1 m. This research uses several water parameter data that influence the extent of turf algae cover, such as temperature, salinity, brightness, DO, currents, sedimentation, pH, nitrate and phosphate. The results obtained were that the highest cover occurred at Banyu Tawar station at 1,3042.05 cm2 and the lowest cover at Waru-Waru station at 488.7 cm2. The water parameter data that has been measured has optimal values with pH having a range of 7.5–8.1 dissolved oxygen (DO) in the range 6.8–7 mg/L, salinity 34.2-34.4‰, nitrate 0.9-2.1 mg/L, and phosphate 0.03-0.17 mg/L, where these parameter values support the growth of turf algae.

Abstract

Blue swimming crab is one of the leading commodities in the capture fisheries sector in waters which are caught using gill nets and traps/bubu lipat. The potential for loss of these two fishing gears during operation is very high, both due to weather factors, bottom conditions of the waters and interactions with other fishing gears. Leftover fishing gear in the waters known as Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) contributes significantly to the abundance of marine debris in the sea which has a negative impact on the preservation of fish resources, water quality and endangers shipping safety. Even so, there have been little efforts to mitigate and reduce ALDFG in marine waters. This study conducted at Demak of Central Java from August to September 2023 which aims to identify the causes of fishing gear debris in crab fisheries in marine waters. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews with respondents who were deliberately selected around the crab fishermen's landings, the results of which were then analyzed descriptively. This study found that the source of marine debris originating from swimming crab fishing gear was caused by lost fishing gear, not because it was intentionally thrown into the sea. Lost fishing gear occurs due to natural factors and is affected by the operation of other types of fishing gear by 23% and 27% respectively.

Abstract

Olive oil is a key component of the Mediterranean diet, renowned for its flavor and health benefits, especially for its polyphenol content. These polyphenols have strong antioxidant properties, protecting cells from oxidative stress and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. This study aims to systematically identify and quantify the main polyphenols in different types of olive oil, including Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), Virgin Olive Oil (VOO), Refined Olive Oil (ROO), Pure Olive Oil (POO), and Pomace Olive Oil. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, a comprehensive literature study was conducted to collect and evaluate research on polyphenol content in various olive oils. The results showed significant differences in polyphenol profiles. EVOO, which is produced through cold pressing without heat or chemicals, has the highest polyphenol content, offers superior health benefits and complex flavors. VOO, although more processed, still contained moderately high polyphenols, suitable for medium temperature cooking. ROO, which is extensively processed, has lower polyphenol levels, ideal for high temperature cooking but with fewer health benefits. POO, a blend of VOO and ROO, offers a balance of flavor and practicality. Pomace Olive Oil, with the lowest polyphenol content, is used mainly for industrial frying due to its high smoke point. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the importance of choosing the type of olive oil based on its use and health benefits. EVOO is optimal for raw or lightly cooked dishes, VOO for all- purpose cooking, and ROO and Pomace Olive Oil for high temperature applications. This research guides consumers and manufacturers in making the right choice to optimize the health benefits of olive oil.

Abstract

Coastal ecosystems are very vulnerable to environmental changes, and one of the variables of resilience in coastal areas is wave height. Clungup Beach is one of the beaches located in South Java with the characteristics of high waves. Analysis of wave height forecasting to minimize environmental damage in the future. The wave height forecasting method is carried out by two methods, namely Fisher Tippet-1 and Weibull, with the aim of comparing the results of forecasting the resulting waves and validating the forecast data. The source of wave data for 10 years (2009 - 2018) was obtained from the ECMWF (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) website. The results of data analysis show that the wave height of Clungup Beach for a period of 10 years (2009 - 2018) with the highest value in July 2013, namely 2.67 m and the lowest in June 2010 with a value of 2.28 m, which is classified as a wave extreme in accordance with the Regulation of the Head of BMKG No. KEP. 009 of 2010. Wave forecasting with the Fisher Tippet-1 method return period in 2020 is 2.48 m and in the next 50 years (2069) is 2.76 m. Whereas in the Weibull method, the wave value for 2020 is 2.43 m and for the next 50 years (2069) is 3.01 m. The two methods used have the equation that the wave height that will occur in the Clungup Beach area will experience an increase (upward trend). This will be the basis for determining the scenario of coastal area protection, so that the resilience of coastal ecosystems will be well realized.

Abstract

The phylum Coelenterata, class Anthozoa, includes a group of marine living things known as corals. Corals feature a variety of incredibly gorgeous colors and patterns. The majority of the world's more than 70,000 coral species may be found in tropical marine environments. Due to its geographic setting, Indonesia has an extremely high level of coral diversity and is the world's largest exporter of ornamental coral. Demand on the market for natural ornamental corals is now rising, along with trends in the rate of industrial development. Allowing this industrial activity to grow will result in huge exploitation and put the coral reef environment at danger. Therefore, to quickly increase the number of corals, this research examined transplantation methods. The montipora and echinopora genera were the focus of this study. The Montipora capricornis coral sample from PT Tirta Samudra Bali had the highest growth rate of the Montipora genus corals there, with an average growth rate of 1,404 cm2/week. The highest growth rate of the Echinopora genus corals had an average growth rate of 0.362 cm2/week. As they have a 100% survival record, cultivation activities using the transplant method performed at PT. Tirta Samudra Bali are regarded as successful
