Abstract

The fishing port, which acts as a public agency, provides services and facilitates fishing activities for fishermen. One indicator that the service provided is already optimal is the minimum number of vessels in the process of dismantling fish in the port. The study aims to find out the fishing landing system and the number of ships that landed during the period September–August 2022. The method used is directly through field observations and collecting secondary data to supplement the data obtained. The system applied to each port is different. The port of Pondokdadap applies the queue method as well as the system of nahkoda, where the ship's documents must be submitted and the fisherman's number taken before landing. Boats that want to sell fish to the TPI must be equipped with a catch letter. In the period September–August 2022, the highest number of ships was found in June 2022, with 603. For the smallest number in January 2022, there were 22 ships. Based on the results obtained, it is known that the period of April–September has the highest number, while there is a decrease in the number in October–March. There was an increase in the number of vessels that carried out fishing, which was affected by the fishing season, with the high season in the Eastern season.

Abstract

Seagrass bed has an important role for biota in waters. The existence of fish in seagrass is influenced by other ecosystems close to seagrass, such as mangroves and coral reefs. This study focuses on fish associated with seagrass in Bama Beach. The data include seagrass coverage and the number of fish for the Diversity, Uniformity, and Dominance. The study was carried out on March 15 to 20, 2018 using the Underwater Visual Census. Results show that seagrass cover was highest in seagrass stations near mangroves (62,66%), while at stations near coral reefs was 37,66. The composition of fish associated with seagrass near mangroves was 361 individuals, while near reefs was 1.454 individuals. The values of diversity, uniformity, and dominance of fish associated with seagrass near mangroves are 2,62; 0,88; and 0,09 respectively while those associated with coral reefs have values of 2,93; 0,85; and 0,06. Family Aulostomidae was dominant in the morning at the station near mangroves, and in the afternoon was dominated by Apogonidae. At the station near coral reefs, the Family Pomacentridae was dominant both in the morning and afternoon. The seagrass conditions in this study are in the healthy category with quite diverse fishes. The level of fish diversity in seagrass was influenced by habitats associated with seagrasses than seagrass cover levels. The condition of Bama Beach as a conservation area is quite good, but the activity of tourists around the coastline must be monitored to maintain the environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study was conducted to understand the influence of monsoons and ocean currents on the distribution and composition of waste in the Wonorejo Mangrove Ecotourism, Surabaya. Using a shoreline survey method at five locations, waste data was collected in March, May, and September 2024. The analysis focused on measuring the amount and weight of waste, especially plastic, rubber, cloth, and other materials. The results showed that plastic waste was the most dominant, reaching 95.33% of the total weight of waste in September, while in March and May, the amount was also very high. A significant spike in rubber waste was recorded in May, possibly due to increased recreational activities during the holiday season. The pattern of waste changes showed that the west monsoon (December-March) which brought high rainfall caused an increase in the accumulation of waste on the beach, especially plastic and rubber, due to surface flow carrying waste from the mainland to the coast. Conversely, in the east monsoon (June-September), which is generally drier, there was a decrease in the amount of accumulated waste, especially plastic, because the ocean current moving away from the coast reduced the accumulation of waste on the coast. Mangroves play an important role as natural filters, capturing and reducing waste that enters the coastal ecosystem. Based on these findings, it is recommended to improve waste management facilities and public education on reducing the use of single-use plastics to reduce the negative impact of waste on the mangrove ecosystem.

Abstract

Lift net is a fishing tool that belongs to the lifting net group. In terms of construction, there are two types of lift net, namely: stationary lift net and floating lift net. Stationary lift net are a type of static fishing gear. The advantage of this fishing gear is that it gives fishermen certainty about the fishing location. However, if fishermen are not wise in exploiting fish, the catch will decrease, the reason is that stationary lift net will rely heavily on the stock/abundance of local fish in these waters. This is different from floating lift net which are able to change positions. The method is to pull the lift net with the help of the boat. Usually fishermen will move the position of any lift net when the catch is low or the weather is bad. Thus, research was carried out regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation of the lift net by conducting experimental fishing in Probolinggo waters. The results of the independent t test show a significance value of 0.152, which means there is no difference in catches between the stationary lift net and the floating lift net.
