Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of developing students collaboration skills in science learning at the elementary school level. STEAM-based science learning through pinwheel lantern media was selected as an alternative learning approach that can provide active, concrete, creative, and collaborative learning experiences. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of STEAM-based science learning through pinwheel lantern media in improving the collaboration skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 112 Pekanbaru. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 29 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and observation sheets on collaboration skills. The data were analyzed using mean scores and N-Gain. The results showed that STEAM-based science learning through pinwheel lantern media was able to improve students collaboration skills in the moderate category. Students showed improvement in group participation, task distribution, discussion, mutual assistance, and responsible task completion. Therefore, STEAM-based science learning through pinwheel lantern media can be used as an alternative science learning approach to develop elementary school students collaboration skills.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam dunia pendidikan dan menuntut guru memiliki kompetensi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan abad ke-21. Oleh karena itu, mahasiswa pendidikan sebagai calon guru perlu mempersiapkan diri agar mampu menjadi guru profesional di era digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat persiapan mahasiswa pendidikan menjadi guru profesional di era digital yang ditinjau dari aspek kompetensi pedagogik, kompetensi profesional, literasi digital, pemanfaatan teknologi pembelajaran, dan kesiapan menghadapi tantangan pendidikan masa depan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan sampel sebanyak 15 mahasiswa program studi pendidikan yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner skala Likert yang terdiri atas 15 butir pernyataan dan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memberikan jawaban setuju dan sangat setuju pada hampir seluruh indikator. Sebanyak 80% responden menyatakan mampu menggunakan teknologi digital dalam pembelajaran, 86,7% memahami pentingnya literasi digital, 86,6% mampu menggunakan aplikasi pembelajaran digital, dan 86,6% memiliki motivasi untuk terus mengembangkan kemampuan mengajar. Selain itu, 86,6% responden menyatakan siap menjadi guru di era digital. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa pendidikan memiliki tingkat kesiapan yang baik untuk menjadi guru profesional di era digital. Namun demikian, peningkatan kompetensi digital tetap perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan melalui pelatihan, praktik penggunaan teknologi pembelajaran, dan pengembangan inovasi pembelajaran agar calon guru mampu beradaptasi dengan perkembangan teknologi serta kebutuhan pendidikan masa depan.

Abstract

Science education at the elementary school level has an important role in shaping scientific thinking and improving students' understanding of natural concepts, one of which is the human respiratory system. In this case, the lungs become organ vital Which worthy introduced through method interesting and applicable learning. This study aims to describe how the understanding of fifth grade students of SDN 188 Pekanbaru can be improved through project-based experiments on how the lungs work. This experimental method is designed with an active and contextual learning approach, where students are directly involved in the process of making a lung model using simple tools and materials. The results show that student involvement in experiment based on project capable increase enthusiasm learning and conceptual understanding significantly. In addition, this activity also trains critical thinking skills, teamwork, and scientific communication. These findings underscore the importance of integrating a project-based experimental approach in learning Science. Through activity This, Teacher No only teach theory, but also provide meaningful learning experiences that can improve students' overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low speaking ability of elementary school students which is characterized by a lack of confidence, difficulty in expressing opinions in a coherent manner, and the lack of students' ability to express information clearly in learning Indonesian. These problems show that the learning that takes place has not fully provided opportunities for students to actively practice speaking skills. This research aims to Develop a booklet  based on Student Worksheets (LKPD) on interview text materials to support the speaking skills of grade IV elementary school students. The method used is research and Development with a 4D model which includes the define, design, and Develop stages. At the Development stage, the product is validated by media experts and subject matter experts to assess the feasibility level of the LKPD booklet  Developed. The results of the study showed that the LKPD booklet  obtained a feasibility percentage of 91.17% in the media aspect and 90.32% in the material aspect with a very feasible category. These results show that the LKPD booklet  Developed has met the eligibility criteria both in terms of appearance and content as teaching materials for learning Indonesian language in elementary schools. However, this research is still limited to the product validation stage, so further research is needed through field trials to determine the effectiveness of LKPD booklet s in improving students' speaking skills in more depth.

Abstract

Global warming represents a critical environmental issue exacerbated by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, necessitating mitigation strategies that incorporate effective environmental education at the elementary school level. Although STEAM-based learning has demonstrated efficacy, further investigation is required into its practical implementation—such as through the construction of a mini greenhouse—to enhance students’ scientific thinking skills. This study seeks to describe the implementation of the STEAM approach integrated with the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students’ scientific thinking skills. A descriptive qualitative method was employed. Data were collected through direct observation of students’ experimental activities, process documentation, and interviews designed to capture student understanding. The approach assessed students’ competencies in observation, inquiry, and inference during the construction of a mini greenhouse. The findings indicate that implementing STEAM through the five phases of PjBL significantly enhanced key indicators of scientific thinking, including observation, inference, prediction, and scientific communication. Students successfully drew connections between temperature phenomena observed in the mini greenhouse and global warming on Earth. Primary enabling factors included student enthusiasm and the accessibility of materials, whereas constraints involved limited time and inadequate measuring instruments. The implications of this study suggest that the STEAM approach aligns with the Independent Curriculum and reinforces the Pancasila Student Profile by cultivating critical, creative, and collaborative thinking. Future research should broaden the scope of subject areas and extend the observation period to evaluate the impact on environmental literacy more comprehensively.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh tuntutan pembelajaran abad ke-21 yang menekankan pentingnya integrasi kompetensi digital dan pembentukan karakter dalam proses pembelajaran di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis transformasi peran guru serta strategi inovatif yang digunakan dalam mengintegrasikan kedua aspek tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan metode survei. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket tertutup berbasis skala Likert 1–4 yang disebarkan kepada enam orang guru di SD Negeri 84 Pekanbaru. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik statistik deskriptif berupa rata-rata skor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi digital guru berada pada kategori baik dengan rata-rata skor 2,80. Strategi pembelajaran inovatif berbasis proyek dan blended learning memperoleh skor 2,78. Integrasi pembentukan karakter menunjukkan hasil yang lebih tinggi dengan skor 3,10, sedangkan peran inovatif guru sebagai fasilitator memperoleh skor tertinggi sebesar 3,21. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa guru telah mampu mengintegrasikan teknologi dan nilai karakter secara seimbang dalam pembelajaran. Namun, kolaborasi profesional antar guru masih perlu ditingkatkan. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa transformasi peran guru sebagai fasilitator dan agen perubahan menjadi faktor kunci dalam mewujudkan pembelajaran yang relevan dengan tuntutan abad ke-21.

Abstract

Characterized by rapid technological progress, education today demands teachers who are not only digitally literate but also capable of fostering computational thinking (CT) in students. However, many elementary teachers still face challenges in integrating coding and STEM principles into classroom learning. This community service program was designed to empower elementary school teachers in Bengkalis Regency through the integration of STEM-based coding to enhance their CT skills. The two-day program involved 50 teachers from 22 schools and employed a combination of conceptual sessions on deep learning and CT, unplugged coding practices using Kids First Coding and Robotics (Smart Bricks), plug-in coding practices with Scratch for Arduino (S4A) and workshops to develop STEM-based science lesson plans (RPP) showcased through microteaching. Results revealed an average post-test CT score of 79.3, with 82% of teachers achieving mastery (≥70). Teachers successfully created innovative lesson plans integrating CT into science topics such as phase changes of matter and the solar system. The microteaching sessions showed that participants could contextualize coding-STEM learning effectively. Teacher reflections emphasized the need for continuous training, sufficient facilities, and the establishment of a coding-STEM teacher community. In conclusion, integrating STEM-based coding effectively enhanced teachers’ CT skills and pedagogical competence while supporting the goals of Indonesia’s Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of contextual learning media in enhancing students' understanding of the food chain concept at SDN 184 Pekanbaru. A qualitative descriptive approach was used with direct observation of 41 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation and documentation. The results showed that the use of concrete media, such as a food chain diorama, helped clarify the relationships among living organisms in an ecosystem, increased motivation, and promoted active student participation. The application of this media also fostered ecological awareness among students regarding their surrounding environment. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more effective learning media that aligns with the developmental characteristics of students. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media konkret, seperti diorama rantai makanan, mampu memperjelas hubungan antar makhluk hidup dalam ekosistem, meningkatkan motivasi, serta partisipasi aktif siswa. Penerapan media ini juga mampu membangun kesadaran ekologis siswa terhadap kondisi lingkungan sekitar. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan media pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan sesuai dengan karakteristik perkembangan siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pemahaman siswa sekolah dasar terhadap konsep cahaya dan sifat-sifatnya melalui pembelajaran berbasis masalah (Problem Based Learning/PBL) dengan pendekatan eksperimen sederhana. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 20 siswa kelas IV. Pembelajaran dilaksanakan dalam satu pertemuan, tanpa pre-test, dan pemahaman siswa dievaluasi melalui post-test yang dibandingkan dengan Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa seluruh siswa mencapai nilai di atas KKM, menandakan bahwa pendekatan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Selain itu, observasi terhadap aktivitas kelompok dan presentasi menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis, kerja sama, dan komunikasi. Hasil ini memperkuat bahwa penerapan PBL yang diintegrasikan dengan eksperimen sederhana merupakan strategi pembelajaran yang efektif untuk membangun pemahaman konseptual dalam materi IPA yang bersifat abstrak.

Abstract

The integration of computational thinking (CT) into classroom instruction has become increasingly important in 21st-century education due to its role in fostering logical reasoning, systematic thinking, and problem-solving skills among learners. However, implementing CT at the elementary school level requires instructional approaches that are developmentally appropriate and accessible to young learners through concrete learning experiences. This study aimed to examine the development of elementary students’ CT skills through science learning media based on unplugged coding in the topic of Harmony in Ecosystems. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 24 fifth-grade students at SDN 37 Pekanbaru. The intervention was carried out using a student worksheet integrating unplugged coding activities, including coordinates, conditionals, debugging, and classification within a science learning context. Data were collected through an objective test developed based on CT indicators and analyzed using descriptive statistics and N-Gain analysis. The findings revealed an improvement in students’ CT skills, indicated by an increase in the mean score from 6.88 to 8.75, with an N-Gain score of 0.60 categorized as moderate. These findings suggest that integrating unplugged coding activities into science instruction provides contextual learning experiences, encourages active student engagement, and supports the development of more structured thinking patterns in understanding scientific concepts.
