Abstract

The Nipah coastline in Nipah Hamlet, Malaka Village, North Lombok Regency has experienced coral reef damage that has impacted fish catches and community welfare. This community service activity aims to empower coastal communities through coral reef conservation to support the sustainability of marine ecosystems. The method used is the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which includes the stages of discovery, dream, design, define, and destiny. The results of the activity include an increase in coral reef conservation media, specifically spider media from 70 to 80 units and table media from 5 to 6 units. Coral reef conservation is carried out through long-term monitoring of the survival and diversity of organisms to restore the functions of damaged marine ecosystems and support coastal stability. Community empowerment in coral reef conservation at Nipah Beach has significant social and economic impacts, including increased fish populations that boost local fishermen's catches and promote the development of marine tourism, creating economic opportunities for coastal merchants. while active community involvement strengthens social capital and community capacity in sustainable marine resource management, making the synergy between environmental conservation and economic well-being a crucial foundation for the sustainability of conservation programs in the area. Coral growth monitoring is planned three months later since the planting was recently completed. In conclusion, these initial coral reef conservation activities are an important step in supporting the achievement of SDG Goal 14: Life Below Water.

Abstract

Quality education is expected to create a generation that is able to adapt to challenges. To achieve this, the development of superior human resources must begin with efforts to instill an interest in reading from an early age, both in schools and in the community, so that every individual has equal access to knowledge. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of optimizing the Community Reading Park as an effort to build a literate generation in Nyerot Village. The problem of low interest in reading in the village is a major urgency that must be prioritized by the village government so that it can be addressed immediately. Through the PMD Real Work Lecture activity in Nyerot Village in collaboration with the National Library, a work program focused on literacy was presented. The methods used in this activity were initial observation, preparation, and implementation of activities carried out at the Saras Alus Community Reading Park in Nyerot Village. Various activities were carried out, such as reading aloud, book reviews, and implementing simple projects based on reading books. Through these activities, children not only read, but also experienced learning activities accompanied by play so that it did not feel boring. Additionally, the children who participated in the learning activities at the TBM were very enthusiastic, which helped develop their level of participation in utilizing their free time in a meaningful way.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Tumbuh Mulia Village identified a major agricultural problem: low crop productivity due to a lack of environmentally friendly and affordable fertilizers. The village's abundant chicken manure has not been optimally utilized, potentially polluting the environment. The project aimed to process chicken manure into organic fertilizer for local farmers. The manufacturing process involved mixing chicken manure, rice husks, dolomite, molasses, and AM11 microbial activator as a decomposer, followed by fermentation for approximately one week without turning. The fermentation results showed significant physical changes, including a crumblier texture, a blackish-brown color, and a reduced odor, making it suitable for agricultural use. This solid organic fertilizer product was then tested on residents' chili plants, which showed improved growth compared to before. This project not only provided a solution to the problem of livestock waste but also increased the community's knowledge and skills in processing waste into environmentally friendly products. Thus, this program contributes to strengthening sustainable agriculture while strengthening the synergy between universities and the community.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) for Village Empowerment (PMD) at the University of Mataram is a form of student service through interdisciplinary activities aimed at developing village potential and addressing community issues. The KKN program for the July–August 2025 period was implemented in Pakuan Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency, with the theme Green Economy. Pakuan Village is known as a tourist destination with potential in nature, agriculture, and local SMEs, yet it faces serious challenges in managing organic waste. Household and agricultural waste that is not properly managed can lead to environmental pollution and health problems. As a solution, the KKN PMD team introduced maggot (Black Soldier Fly/BSF) cultivation as a method of organic waste bioconversion. This approach not only effectively reduces organic waste volume but also produces nutrient-rich larvae that can be used as alternative animal feed, thereby providing additional economic value for the community. The activities carried out included socialization, hands-on training in maggot cultivation, and post-training monitoring to evaluate program outcomes. The results indicated an increase in community knowledge and skills in managing organic waste through maggot cultivation. Training participants, consisting of village officials, livestock groups, PKK women’s association, youth organizations, and the general public, showed strong enthusiasm and potential to continue the practice sustainably. Thus, this program can serve as an initial step in establishing environmentally friendly waste management while supporting the development of a green economy in Pakuan Village.

Abstract

Limited access to reading materials in remote areas has led to the emergence of mobile library services and reading corners. The existence of these two services is strongly believed to influence the reading interest of elementary school students. This study analyzes the influence of these two strategies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of mobile library services and reading corners on the reading interest of elementary school students in Aik Dewa Village, East Lombok Regency. The method used is a quantitative approach with a descriptive-verificative type. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected using purposive sampling. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire with a Likert scale (1–5) containing indicators of accessibility, collection variety, and service quality in mobile libraries; aspects of comfort, affordability, and collection quality in reading corners; and indicators of frequency, motivation, and enjoyment of reading as a representation of the reading interest variable. Based on data analysis, both variables were proven to have a significant and positive effect on reading interest. The contribution of reading corners (β=0.42) was greater than that of mobile libraries (β=0.35). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.679 indicates that 67.9% of the variation in reading interest can be explained by these two services. These findings confirm that the combination of strategies in the form of providing mobile libraries and reading corners is effective in increasing students' reading interest, with reading corners having a greater impact.

Abstract

Improper management of livestock manure may cause negative impacts to the environment and human health. This condition would get worse when animal pens are located close to residential areas. On the other side, livestock manure actually could be utilized as organic fertilizer due to its nutrient content such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K). Therefore, socialization and training on the utilization of livestock manure into organic fertilizer is necessary as an environmentally friendly solution while creating synergy between the livestock and agricultural sectors. This community service activity carried out in Dusun Loang Landak, Sengkol Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, with implementation methods including (1) Observation, (2) Planning, (3) Implementation, and (4) Evaluation. The socialization and training were attended by 30 participants consisted of farmers, livestock breeders, and students in Dusun Loang Landak. The materials delivered included the urgency of livestock waste management, the benefits of Agrozyme decomposer, and the process of making organic fertilizer. Participants showed high enthusiasm by actively engaging in discussions about application of organic fertilizer in agricultural fields. During the training session, the participants directly practiced making organic fertilizer so that they could practice it independently. This activity successfully improved the knowledge and skills of Sengkol Village community members in processing cattle manure into organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Coastal areas have an important role in supporting the economic, ecological, and social life of the community. However, the problem of waste, especially plastic, is a serious threat that can reduce environmental quality and hinder the development of the marine tourism potential. This article aims to describe the implementation of the program to strengthen environmental awareness through beach cleaning activities carried out by MBKM KKN students of the University of Mataram in the Kaki Bukit Pecaron area, Klatakan Village, Situbondo. The implementation method includes field observation, coordination with village officials, socialization of the dangers of plastic waste to the community and students, as well as beach cleanup actions involving students, the community, and elementary school students. The collected waste is then sorted by type to facilitate further management. The results of the activity show an increase in community participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness, the creation of synergy between students and the community, and the growth of collective awareness about the negative impacts of coastal pollution. The discussion emphasized that a participatory approach through cross-element collaboration is able to increase the effectiveness of environmental management programs and support the sustainability of similar activities. In conclusion, the beach clean-up action at the foot of Pecaron Hill not only contributes to improving environmental quality, but also strengthens community concern as social capital in supporting the development of sustainable marine tourism.
