Abstract

Marine Tourism Beach in Jawai Laut Village, Sambas Regency, has great potential as a community-based tourism destination. However, the increasing number of tourist visits has caused environmental problems, especially in terms of waste management, especially plastic waste. Lack of facilities, low public and tourist awareness, and lack of external support are the main obstacles in creating a clean and sustainable tourism environment. This community service activity aims to evaluate the condition of waste management, identify the obstacles faced, and formulate strategic solutions. The methods used include field observation, interviews with the community and Pokdarwis, and visual documentation. The results show that despite community efforts to maintain cleanliness, the waste management system has not been running optimally. Therefore, the solutions offered include the application of the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), increasing environmental education, providing adequate cleaning facilities, utilizing digital media and influencers for campaigns, and implementing a waste sorting system from the source. It is hoped that this strategy can encourage the creation of clean, healthy, and sustainable tourist destinations.

Abstract

Monitoring mangrove vegetation is an essential initial step in mangrove management. The aim of this study was to observe the spatial and temporal changes in the coverage and extent of mangrove vegetation in the Jawai District. The method used in this research was remote sensing through geometric analysis of changes in coverage and the density of mangrove vegetation using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Green Chlorophyll Index (GCI) as indicators of mangrove vegetation health. The results of the analysis using Landsat 8 satellite imagery recorded in 2013 and 2023 as input data revealed that the extent of mangrove vegetation coverage experienced both increases and decreases in certain villages. A total of six villages saw an increase in mangrove vegetation covering 171.2 hectares, including Dungun Laut, Sentebang, Sei Nyirih, Parit Setia, Pelimpaan, and Sarang Burung Kuala. Meanwhile, five villages experienced a reduction in mangrove vegetation area, comprising Bakau, Sarang Burung Usrat, Sarang Burung Kolam, Sei Nilam, and Sarang Burung Danau. The village with the largest increase in mangrove area was Parit Setia, with an addition of 45.075 ha, while the greatest decrease occurred in Sarang Burung Usrat, with a reduction of 32.917 ha. Furthermore, the NDVI and GCI values showed a similar pattern, with an increase in index values from 2013 to 2023. When the NDVI value increases, the GCI value also increases. The density of mangrove vegetation based on NDVI ranged from 0.0249 to 0.4300 in 2013, and increased in 2023, ranging from 0.0451 to 0.5117. The GCI values in 2013 ranged from 0.0030 to 1.1628, and in 2023 they ranged from 1.0499 to 2.5708.

Abstract

The household-scale food industry plays an important role in the economy in Indonesia, especially in the utilization of abundant fishery resources. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GHP (Good Hygiene Practices) in the production of fish balls in Harapan Village, Pemangkat District. This study uses observation, interview, and evaluation check-list methods based on CPPOB standards. The results of the study indicate several aspects that are not yet optimal such as location, buildings and facilities, food labeling, supervision, recording and documentation, and employee training. The results show that the fish ball household industry still has many findings that are not in accordance, indicating that the industry has not fully met the applied CPPOB standards.

Abstract

The fish ball processing industry has significant economic potential, but it also has environmental impacts due to the solid and liquid waste it produces. This study aims to evaluate the potential for implementing a cleaner production approach in the household-scale meatball processing industry in Harapan Village to improve sustainability and competitiveness for the local industry. The method used in data collection in this study was through observation and interviews with household-scale fish ball businesses. Based on the research, the fish ball processing industry in Harapan Village produces two types of waste: liquid waste consisting of fish washing water and fish meat washing water, and solid waste in the form of fish bones and scales. The cleaner production approach applies 5 principles: elimination (prevention), reduce (reduction), reuse (reuse), recycle (recycling), and recovery (recovery of valuable materials) which have not been implemented by business actors. Thus, the household-scale fish ball processing industry in Harapan Village still requires significant improvements in cleaner production.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) in a home-scale amplang (fish cracker) processing industry using Spanish mackerel in Singkawang City. The method used was direct observation of production facilities, processing activities, and supporting infrastructure, assessed against the standards of Ministry Regulation No. 17 of 2019 and No. 75/M-IND/PER/7/2010. The results indicated compliance in areas such as space separation, clean water usage, and production recordkeeping. However, weaknesses were identified in employee training, hygiene supervision, sanitation documentation, and waste management. In conclusion, GMP and SSOP principles have been applied but not yet optimally, requiring continuous improvements in human resources, facilities, and documentation systems.

Abstract

This study aims to apply the principles of clean production and waste management systems in household-scale amplang cracker industries in Singkawang City. These industries produce two main types of waste—solid and liquid—which are mostly not optimally managed. The research method used is qualitative descriptive through field observations and documentation. The results show that clean production practices are still limited to spatial separation in production areas, the use of gas fuel, and routine environmental cleanliness. However, waste management remains unintegrated and reactive. Solid waste such as fish bones and scales is discarded without reuse, while liquid waste is directly discharged into open drains without any treatment. Strengthening technical capacity, providing worker training, and adopting simple technologies are necessary to ensure the comprehensive and sustainable application of clean production principles in these small-scale household industries.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to observe the distribution and changes in the area of mangrove vegetation in Jawai District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan Province. This sub-district is part of the administrative area of Sambas Regency and is one of 6 sub-districts that have coastal regions. The data used in this research is Landsat 8 satellite imagery, recording data from 2016 and 2022. The results of the data analysis show that of the total of 13 villages, only one village did not find mangrove vegetation in its area, namely Dungun Laut Village. Based on the analysis of the distribution of mangrove vegetation in 12 villages, there are two villages, namely Mutus Darussalam and Sarang Burung Danau, which show a decrease in the area of mangrove vegetation cover. Both experienced a reduction in the area of 0.184 ha and 42,081 ha, respectively. During 2016 and 2022, the lowest mangrove vegetation area was in Sentebang Village, 2,768 ha and 19,112 ha. The highest area of mangrove vegetation is increasing in Sarang Burung Kolam Village, with an area of 188,889 ha (2016) and 212,335 ha (2022). These findings show the importance of conservation in protecting the mangrove ecosystem in this area.
