Abstract

Abstract

Stunting remains one of Indonesia’s major chronic nutritional problems and poses a serious threat to human resource development, particularly in vulnerable regions such as Maros Regency. Stunting reflects long-term nutritional deficiencies during the critical period of the first 1,000 days of life and is associated with adverse consequences on physical growth, cognitive development, health status, and future productivity. Data indicate that the prevalence of stunting in the working area of the Marusu Health Center increased to 4.1% in 2024, highlighting the need for more effective preventive strategies that address not only biological and nutritional factors but also behavioral and communicative aspects. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between interpersonal communication and stunting prevention and management behaviors at the Marusu Health Center, Maros Regency. An analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study population consisted of 284 mothers with stunted children in the Marusu Health Center area. Based on sampling criteria and data collection during the study period, a total of 96 respondents were included in the final analysis using accidental sampling. Primary data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from the Marusu Health Center and the local Health Office. Data analysis was conducted using Chi-Square tests and multivariate logistic regression to identify significant associations between variables. The results showed that interpersonal communication was significantly associated with awareness, motivation, intention, and preventive practices related to stunting prevention. However, no significant relationship was found between interpersonal communication and sociocultural factors (p = 0.629). These findings indicate that effective interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in shaping preventive behaviors, even when sociocultural influences remain unchanged. Strengthening communication competencies among health workers and Posyandu (community health post) cadres, as well as implementing family-based counseling programs, is therefore essential. Future studies are recommended to expand the research area, increase the number of respondents, and apply longitudinal approaches to better understand the long-term effects of communication-based stunting prevention interventions.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by a long-term lack of nutritional intake, resulting in impaired growth in children. The prevalence of stunting in South Sulawesi Province was 151,398 children suffering from stunting or growth failure in 2021. The most fundamental problem in integrated health service posts (Posyandu) is the low level of knowledge of cadres, both academically and technically. Therefore, to provide optimal services, adjustments to the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres are necessary. This study aims to determine the effect of health promotion through video media on the knowledge and attitudes of cadres in the Barombong Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area regarding the prevention of stunting. This type of research is quantitative. The design used in this study is quasi-experimental. The study population was 65 people. The sample in this study was 65 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The results of the study obtained a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, which means there is an influence of health promotion through video media on the knowledge of cadres in preventing stunting at the Barombong Health Center, a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, which means there is an influence of health promotion through video media on the attitudes of cadres in preventing stunting in the Barombong Health Center work area. This study concludes that the variables of knowledge and attitude influence health promotion through video media in the Barombong Health Center Work Area.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive act carried out repeatedly against individuals perceived as weaker or more vulnerable by individuals or groups with greater power. This study aims to explore in-depth bullying behavior based on gender and sexual orientation among adolescents and its implications for mental health at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar. This research underscores the importance of understanding these dynamics, encouraging educators and professionals to recognize their role in fostering safer environments. The study uses a qualitative, phenomenological approach to understand individual experiences of a particular phenomenon. Through this approach, researchers describe informants' experiences and perceptions regarding bullying behavior. Data collection was conducted through observation and in-depth interviews with 9 informants at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar in March. The results show that the impact of bullying experienced by students at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar is relatively mild, but still has an impact on students' psychological condition and social comfort. The form and dynamics of bullying in adolescents were found to differ by gender, although both boys and girls can act as perpetrators or victims of bullying. In addition, stigma and a lack of understanding regarding sexual orientation also contribute to the occurrence of bullying behavior in the school environment. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that schools increase student education and awareness regarding bullying and provide a more comprehensive understanding of gender and sexual orientation to create a safe, inclusive school environment that supports adolescent mental health.

Abstract

Health behavior is a major determinant of individual and population health and is shaped by multiple interacting factors across different levels of influence. This study aimed to critically analyze the determinants of health behavior and their implications for public health promotion. A critical review was conducted using a transparent study selection process guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020). Electronic searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, resulting in 39 studies published between 2021 and 2026 that met the predefined eligibility criteria. Methodological quality was critically appraised using design-specific assessment tools, and the evidence was examined through analytical and interpretive synthesis. Six major categories of health behavior determinants were identified: individual, social, environmental, cultural and religious, technological, and policy determinants. Individual determinants, particularly health literacy, self-efficacy, knowledge, motivation, and health beliefs, were the most frequently examined. However, the synthesis demonstrated that these determinants did not operate independently but interacted with social relationships, environmental opportunities, cultural contexts, technological conditions, and policy environments. The review identified several theoretical, methodological, and empirical gaps, including the predominance of individual-level perspectives and limited attention to interactions among contextual and structural determinants. These findings highlight the need for multilevel, context-sensitive, and theoretically integrated health promotion strategies that simultaneously address individual capabilities and the broader social, environmental, cultural and religious, technological, and policy conditions shaping health behavior.

Abstract

Background: Adolescent reproductive health remains a significant public health issue, particularly among female adolescents who frequently encounter misconceptions regarding menstruation and inadequate personal hygiene practices. Limited reproductive health literacy may increase the risk of reproductive tract infections, school absenteeism, and poor quality of life. Educational interventions based on participatory health promotion are expected to improve adolescents' knowledge and healthy behaviors. Objective: This community service program aimed to improve female adolescents' knowledge regarding reproductive health, healthy menstruation, menstrual hygiene management, and personal hygiene through structured educational interventions. Methods: The program employed a participatory educational approach using interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, educational games, simulations, and pretest–posttest evaluation. Participants consisted of female students aged 12–18 years at Pondok Pesantren Assa'adah Maros. Educational materials included female reproductive anatomy, puberty, menstrual physiology, menstrual hygiene management, dysmenorrhea management, myths and facts regarding menstruation, and safe sanitary pad selection. Results: The educational intervention demonstrated an increase in participants' reproductive health knowledge as reflected by improvements in posttest scores compared with pretest results. Participants also demonstrated better understanding regarding menstrual hygiene practices, menstrual cycle monitoring, and appropriate reproductive health behaviors. Conclusion: Participatory reproductive health education effectively improves adolescents' knowledge and awareness regarding menstrual health and personal hygiene. Continuous collaboration among schools, pesantren, health professionals, and higher education institutions is recommended to sustain adolescent reproductive health promotion.
