Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of children’s storybooks on elementary school students’ reading interest. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The participants consisted of 54 fourth-grade students aged 9–10 years from a public elementary school in Indonesia, consisting of 25 males and 29 females. The students were divided into three groups: 18 students in the control class, 18 in experimental class 1, and 18 in experimental class 2. Data were collected using a reading interest questionnaire administered during pretest and posttest, supported by observation and documentation. The data were analyzed quantitatively using paired samples t-tests to examine within-group differences and additional analyses, including independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA, to compare differences between groups. The results showed no significant difference in the reading interest of students in the control class. In contrast, significant improvements were found in both experimental classes after the implementation of children’s storybooks. Furthermore, the between-group analysis indicated that the experimental groups demonstrated greater improvement compared to the control group. These findings suggest that the use of children’s storybooks has a positively and statistically significant effect on improving students’ reading interest. Therefore, children’s storybooks can be considered an effective instructional medium to enhance reading interest among elementary school students.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve fifth-grade students' learning outcomes in mathematics, particularly on solid geometry, through the implementation of the Window Shopping cooperative learning model. The study was conducted in Class VB of SDN 02 Tanjung Batu during the 2024/2025 academic year with 20 students as participants. The research followed the Kemmis and McTaggart action research cycle, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection, and was implemented in two cycles. Data were collected using student activity observation sheets and learning outcome tests consisting of ten short-answer items administered during the pre-action stage and at the end of each cycle. The data were analyzed descriptively by calculating mean scores, mastery percentages, and observation percentages. The results showed that the mean score increased from 66.00 in the pre-action stage to 78.00 in Cycle I and 80.50 in Cycle II. The percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criterion increased from 50% to 75% and then to 90%. Student activity also improved from 61.1% in Cycle I, categorized as sufficient, to 83.3% in Cycle II, categorized as good. These findings indicate that the Window Shopping model can improve students' learning outcomes and participation in learning solid geometry through collaborative discussion, peer tutoring, and gallery-based learning activities.

Abstract

Inclusive education is a fundamental right for all children, including students with dyslexia who experience specific learning difficulties in reading and writing. However, implementing inclusive education in Indonesia still faces numerous challenges, such as inadequate early identification, limited suitable teaching methods, and a lack of understanding of dyslexia among teachers and the community. This study aims to analyse the initial reading abilities of dyslexic students at Gunung Malang Public Elementary School 1. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that four dyslexic students experienced difficulties recognising letters, reading syllables, and comprehending simple sentences. Key contributing factors included confusion over visually similar letters, weak phonological awareness, and insufficient reading practice at home. These reading difficulties negatively impacted students' academic performance, highlighting the need for more adaptive teaching strategies, such as phonics-based approaches, engaging educational media, and sustained support from teachers and parents. With proper methods and support dyslexic students can enhance their reading skills and attain equitable educational opportunities.

Abstract

Critical Thinking (CT) is a high-level cognitive skill that is required and emphasized in the elementary mathematics curriculum. To reinforce the relevance and meaning of mathematical concepts, PjBL is integrated with the Ethnomathematics approach, which connects them to cultural contexts. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with Ethnomathematics on the flat building material of Rumah Limas on the improvement of critical thinking skills among elementary school students. This study used a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group. Thedata collection instrument is a test of critical thinking ability through problem-solving. The study's results show that applying the Ethnomathematics-based PjBL model significantly improves students' critical thinking skills. The Independent Samples t-testshowed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference in the essential thinking skills of students taught with the PjBL model compared to those taught with conventional methods. This effectiveness is attributed to the model's success in requiring students to actively identify problems, provide logical reasons, and model geometric concepts from complex cultural objects, namely Rumah Limas. Ethnomathematics-based PjBL can be recommended as an effective pedagogical strategy in developing students' HOTS.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between the need to develop interactive ethnographic bumper videos and home learning processes related to cultural education at the elementary school level. The adopted method was descriptive quantitative, involving 330 students and 12 teachers from three elementary schools in South Sumatra Province. The data collection instruments encompassed six dimensions of needs (pedagogical, technical, cognitive, aesthetic, sociocultural, and evaluative) along with 20 indicators of home learning activities. Data were gathered through surveys, observations, and interviews, and subsequently analyzed using percentage techniques and Spearman correlation analysis. The findings indicate that all dimensions fall within the high to very high category, with a significant correlation between school media needs and home learning activities (rs = 0.70-0.75; p<0.05). The aesthetic (88.1%) and cognitive (86.7%) aspects were identified as top priorities in media development. These results emphasize that interactive ethnographic media play a vital role in integrating formal and nonformal learning experiences and supporting the implementation of collaborative learning that is relevant to local culture. Practically, the findings serve as a foundation for developing digital learning designs grounded in cultural values; theoretically, they reinforce the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning within the field of elementary cultural education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Family Hope Program (PKH) in poverty alleviation in Sukajadi Village, Prabumulih City. The research method used is quantitative with an associative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 77 respondents and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results show that the effectiveness of the Family Hope Program has a positive and significant effect on poverty alleviation, with a regression coefficient of 0.501 and a t-value of 6.533 > t-table 1.992 with a significance of 0.001 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination of 36.3% indicates that PKH has a considerable contribution in reducing poverty, particularly in meeting basic needs, improving access to education, and health services. However, there are still challenges such as dependency among some beneficiary families. Therefore, it is recommended that the program implementation focus more on improving economic independence through community empowerment and strengthening assistance quality.
