Abstract

This article is the result of the community service activity of a team of lecturers and students of Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah from the English literature study program. The purpose of this community service is to share knowledge of the use of linguistic landscape as a medium for English language. Landscape linguistics is a study of language use in public spaces. The program was designed to enhance students’ exposure to English through the strategic use of signs, posters, labels, and educational displays placed in the school environment. The implementation of this program demonstrated that the linguistic landscape could function as an effective, low-cost, and sustainable learning medium. Students showed increased interest and familiarity with English vocabulary and expressions encountered in their daily school activities. Furthermore, the program proved that English language learning can be harmoniously integrated into a religious-based educational setting without disrupting the school’s focus on Qur'an memorization. Through this activity, it is hoped that it will increase the knowledge and insight of the participant.

Abstract

Studies related to revisit intention are important, especially in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era. At that time, many tourism destinations and businesses were destroyed and tended to close, so a strategy was needed to revive revisit intention at tourist destinations in Indonesia. This study aims to provide a tourism marketing perspective on tour service quality, Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and environmental sustainability (CHSE), tourist satisfaction, and gender. Tourist satisfaction as a mediator and gender as a moderator. This study employs a quantitative approach, data collection with a questionnaire, with a sample of domestic tourists. The study was conducted from June to September 2024, using a questionnaire administered directly via Google Forms. The study included 350 respondents; the sample was determined using purposive sampling. Data have been analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling and Multi-Group Analysis with Smart PLS 3.0. This investigation found that both female and male tourists: tour service quality has a positive effect on tourist satisfaction and revisit intention. Meanwhile, for both females and males, the role of CHSE does not significantly affect revisit intention. Tourist satisfaction has a positive effect on revisit intention. The results of the indirect effect show that tourist satisfaction mediates the effects of tour service quality and CHSE on revisit intention, for both males and females. The moderation effect of gender in the relationship between tour service quality, CHSE, and tour satisfaction has a positive influence, but the relationship is not significant.

Abstract

This study examined how ideological tensions between traditional family stability and individual aspiration were discursively constructed in In Your Dreams (2025) through sibling dialogue and dream sequences. Grounded in Ruth Wodak’s Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA) within Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the study focused on five core strategies: nomination, predication, argumentation, perspectivization, and intensification/mitigation. Using qualitative textual analysis of selected script excerpts, the research systematically reconstructed argumentative structures through the claim, warrant, conclusion model to identify the operation of the topos of threat and the topos of loss at the micro-linguistic level (lexical choice, modality, metaphor, and pronoun use). The findings demonstrated that family conflict was discursively framed not merely as interpersonal disagreement but as a structured moral negotiation. Nostalgic generalization and mitigation normalized conflict while simultaneously revealing epistemic insecurity, whereas modal intensification and symbolic metaphor in dream sequences amplified perceptions of instability. Through predication, parental figures were constructed as embodying competing moral orientations, sustainability versus passion, without explicit delegitimation, resulting in ideological ambiguity. The dreamscape served as an arena in which these tensions were dramatized and ultimately rearticulated into a hybrid moral resolution. This study contributes to CDA-based film analysis by demonstrating how DHA’s argumentative reconstruction can systematically expose ideological positioning in animated family narratives through explicit micro-linguistic evidence. Future research should integrate multimodal analysis and audience reception to extend the interpretive scope.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ecranisation process of intrinsic elements, including plot, characters, and settings, from the novel "Cinta dalam Ikhlas" (2017) by Kang Abay into its film adaptation (2024) directed by Fajar Bustomi. The method employed is descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques. The ecranisation theory used covers three main processes: reduction (shrinkage), expansion (addition), and variation change. The results show that in the plot aspect, there is a reduction in the main character's middle school memories and a variation change in the exam announcement medium from newspapers to online systems. In the character aspect, there is a reduction in the number of the main character's siblings and the removal of several supporting characters. Meanwhile, in the setting aspect, visual adjustments were made to support the dramatization of the story on the big screen. In conclusion, the transformation from novel to film underwent various significant changes to adapt to the duration and aesthetics of audio-visual media without losing the essence of the religious message in the story.

Abstract

This study investigated the linguistic landscape of shop signs in Medan and Kuala Lumpur. The objectives focus on three points, namely, the language choice, multilingual writing, and visual aspects of shop signs. The study employed mixed-method design with data of shop signs pictures in Medan and Kuala Lumpur. Data collected using photographic documentation of shop signs. The shop signs were analysed by combining linguistic landscape analysis with language choice, multilingual writing and visual semiotic analysis. The findings identified three points. First, different language choices in Medan and Kuala Lumpur. Most language choices in Medan are monolingual and in Kuala Lumpur are bilingual and multilingual. Second, complementary multilingual writing is predominantly found in Medan while dominantly found in Kuala Lumpur. Third, most the text position as main information on shop signs in Medan are in the middle of the signs or under the signboard while in Kuala Lumpur, the text position as main information on shop signs is in the top right on signboard. The use of fonts and colours of both countries are still the same. The conclusion of the study is that linguistic diversity reflects the multicultural populations in both cities and the importance of using languages to appeal to a wide customer base.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has opened new pathways for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) pedagogy, particularly in the acquisition of technical vocabulary. This study aims to investigate the integration of ChatGPT in enhancing students’ morphological awareness of tourism-related technical terms. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved two groups of tourism students: an experimental group that used ChatGPT-assisted learning and a control group that followed conventional dictionary-based methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests focusing on morphological decomposition and word formation tasks, complemented by semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in identifying derivational affixes and understanding compound words specific to the tourism industry. ChatGPT provided personalized, real-time linguistic explanations, thereby facilitating deeper cognitive processing of complex terminology. The study concludes that AI integration not only enhances morphological competence but also promotes learner autonomy. These results suggest that ESP practitioners should strategically incorporate AI tools to bridge the gap between theoretical linguistics and professional communication in the field of tourism.
