Abstract

This research focuses on the development of integrated teaching materials to enhance Arabic reading (mahārah qira'ah) and writing (mahārah kitābah) skills through a constructivist approach that incorporates calligraphic aesthetics (khat) and writing conventions (rasm) as supporting elements within Arabic language instruction. This integration does not position khat or rasm as separate subjects but embeds them pedagogically to strengthen students' understanding of Arabic script. The study is motivated by challenges in Arabic language learning, particularly the fragmentation between theory and practice and the lack of comprehensive teaching materials. The research method employs the Research and Development (R&D) model, utilizing the ADDIE approach, with 72 students and two teachers from MA Al-Huda Gorontalo. Experts in material, language, and media have validated the study. The results demonstrate high validation scores from experts (material expert: 92%, language expert: 88%, media expert: 78%), as well as proven effectiveness in field trials, with positive responses from students (79%) and teachers (88%). A significant improvement was observed in Arabic writing (+81%) and reading (+78%) skills, as measured through pretest–post-test analysis. The study concludes that the teaching materials developed—which integrate khat and rasm within a constructivist framework—effectively enhance Arabic literacy, supported by systematic material organization and flexible classroom application. Recommendations include further development of interactive features and broader trials across different educational levels. These findings contribute significantly to the advancement of innovative and effective Arabic teaching materials. Abstract

The Orthography of Arab Pegon in Gorontalo is very important to study, but it has not yet been integrated into the curriculum based on local cultural wisdom. This research aims to answer three questions: (1) How is the analysis of students' needs related to difficulties in learning Arab Pegon Orthography in the context of local wisdom? (2) How is the evaluation of educational institutions' readiness to implement Arab Pegon Orthography in a curriculum based on local wisdom? (3) What are the strategic recommendations for integrating Arab Pegon Orthography into the curriculum of educational institutions in Gorontalo? The research method uses a mixed approach, with data collected through surveys, interviews, and observations. The sample consists of 50 students, 20 teachers, and 5 managers of pesantren in Gorontalo. The results of the study show that the evaluation data on the difficulties of teaching Arab Pegon Orthography in Gorontalo are not normally distributed, necessitating non-parametric statistical methods through the Kruskal-Wallis test, which indicates no significant differences among the indicators of Fluency, Pronunciation, Writing, and Comprehension, suggesting that the performance among groups is relatively similar. The Mann-Whitney U Test comparison shows that Hubulo excels if there are significant differences. The evaluation of institutional readiness shows that 60% have adequate infrastructure, while 40% need improvement and 60% of institutions have competent teachers. Strategic recommendations include (1) curriculum integration with local wisdom, (2) regular training for teachers, (3) partnerships with higher education institutions, and (4) the use of technology in learning, aimed at addressing challenges and enhancing students' love for reading, writing, and understanding the Orthography of Arab Pegon in Gorontalo.

Abstract

This research aims to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based teaching performance and behavior measures to support classroom learning evaluation and management. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on Design-Based Research (DBR), this research was conducted at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK) IAIN Gorontalo through four stages: needs analysis, initial model design, limited trials, and improvement evaluation. Data was collected through classroom observations, audio-visual recordings, learning activity logs, and interviews with lecturers and students. The analysis was carried out qualitatively and computationally with pattern recognition and learning analytics techniques using multimodal data. The results of the study produced an annotated audio-visual dataset and a prototype of the Teacher Trainer Dashboard that is able to display indicators of teaching behavior visually, including teacher movements, speech styles, and interaction patterns in the classroom. Initial evaluations by eight researchers showed a positive response to the intuitive and non-judgmental design. This system is considered to be able to support teachers' professional reflection through objective and real-time feedback, without replacing the primary role of educators. Thus, the development of AI-based performance and behavioral measures contributes to the improvement of teacher professionalism and the application of ethical, adaptive, and evidence-based learning analytics in the Islamic education environment.

Abstract

This study examines the orthography of Arabic Pegon in Sumatra as a form of linguistic and cultural adaptation that reflects the process of Islamization in the Malay world. The research aims to describe the distinctive orthographic features of Pegon in Sumatra and to reveal its cultural and religious implications in shaping the identity of Islamic literacy in Indonesia. Using a descriptive-qualitative method with a library research approach, this study analyzes several Pegon manuscripts such as Hikayat Prang Sabi from Aceh, Sullam al-Mubtadi from Minangkabau, and Jawi manuscripts from Palembang. The results show that Arabic Pegon in Sumatra demonstrates unique orthographic innovations through the addition of letters such as ڤ (pa), چ (ca), ݢ (ga), and ڠ (nga), which represent local phonemes not found in classical Arabic. Pegon not only serves as a linguistic medium but also functions as a symbol of Islamic identity, religious education, and cultural expression. Therefore, Arabic Pegon in Sumatra represents the indigenization of Islam in the archipelago and serves as an intellectual heritage that bridges Arabic literacy with local language and culture.

Abstract

The Gorontalo language, an Austronesian language spoken in Sulawesi, exhibits rich morphological processes that remain under-documented. As one of the regional languages of Eastern Indonesia, Gorontalo represents a crucial yet underrepresented component of Austronesian linguistic diversity, making its systematic description both timely and necessary. This study investigates its morphological typology, focusing on affixation, reduplication, and agglutinative structure to determine how words are formed and how the language fits within Austronesian morphological frameworks. The investigation is situated within contemporary debates in typology that view morphological systems as dynamic and sensitive to social and communicative pressures. While Gorontalo language is increasingly threatened by the dominance of Indonesian and declining intergenerational transmission, this research prioritizes structural analysis to capture its core morphological mechanisms before potential attrition accelerates. This urgency reflects broader concerns in language endangerment studies, where loss of morphology often precedes large-scale grammatical erosion. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, primary data were collected through field interviews with native speakers across various age groups and social backgrounds. The inclusion of multiple generations allows the study to capture ongoing morphological change alongside established usage patterns. Complementary data were drawn from oral narratives, traditional expressions, and informal conversations. Thematic analysis identified recurring morphological patterns, with attention to both form and sociocultural context. The analysis categorized affix types, examined reduplication functions, and assessed the degree of agglutination versus fusion in word formation. Results indicate that 18 active affixes (10 prefixes, 5 suffixes, and 3 confixes) were identified, demonstrating a highly productive system of affixation as the primary word-formation strategy. Reduplication functions flexibly, not only for plurality but also for aspect, intensity, and lexical derivation. Gorontalo displays predominantly agglutinative morphology, with clearly segmented morphemes combined cumulatively. However, morphophonemic fusion and simplified usage among younger speakers suggest a transitional typology, reflecting ongoing structural change. This study contributes empirical detail to Austronesian linguistics by documenting the morphological dynamics of an understudied language. These findings have direct pedagogical and typological implications, supporting language preservation initiatives, the development of local curricula, and the design of digital tools such, as morphological analyzers and learning applications. It challenges static typological classifications and offers practical insights for language preservation, local curriculum development, and digital documentation tool.

Abstract

The educational process often overlooks the evaluation aspect of learning, as educators frequently develop assessment instruments without adhering to established guidelines, despite evaluation being a critical component in determining the effectiveness and development of education. This study employed a mixed-methods Research and Development (R&D) approach to develop an Arabic question bank for Grade X students at State Islamic High School (MAN) 1 Pohuwato. Quantitatively, logical validity results showed that expert validators awarded a total score of 74 with an average of 3.89, while practitioner validators provided a total score of 71 with an average of 3.74, both categorized as very valid, resulting in a combined average validity score of 3.815. Qualitatively, the high validity values were supported by expert and practitioner evaluations indicating that the test items were clearly formulated, aligned with curriculum competencies, and appropriately represented the intended cognitive levels. Following the validation process, the revised items were tested in two classes, X-A and X-D, involving 36 students. This development research produced a set of 40 Arabic multiple-choice questions ready for use in the Mid-Term Examination (UTS) and Final Examination (UAS). The implications of this study show that CBT-based Arabic question banks can improve the objectivity, efficiency, and quality of Arabic learning evaluation in madrasas.
